In Wales here, but Central heating has died, etc, the Eco4 scheme seems good for my age/circumstances…but what are the drawbacks …if any?
Any comments appreciated.

My sister lives near Tenby and a year ago she applied for the grant Eco4 in her bungalow to do updating of heating and insulation. She had to live with the disruption for about 3/4 months, they stripped out her heating system and installed a heat pump, new radiators full insulation of her loft. She had to get rid of the oil tank in her garden. Her son had to repair the damage where radiators were removed and new pipe work was put in.
A few teething problems but all seems to be well now. If you can bear the disruption it might be worth looking into.

I live in Scotland and have recently had a new boiler, top up loft insulation and extractor fans installed in my bathroom and kitchen. All for free. It all went very smoothly from start to finish. I was a bit worried it might be a scam, but I contacted my local council before going ahead and they were very helpful. I would say go ahead. The boiler is guaranteed for 7 years. Good luck!

I had the Eco4 grant and it was challenging for about 4 months while work was being done, but was worth it. I know a few others who had Eco4 grant too and their experiences were similar to mine. Really check the feedback of companies before you select who to go with. Mine had terrible reviews but I didn’t realise until they were here. Leaks, pipework installed incorrectly, electricians who had never installed an air source heat pump before and missed wired it, then blagged that it was all fine. They photographed each bit of work completed so they could get paid. My opinions were irrelevant as I wasn’t paying them. Eventually it was all sorted out by an approved heat pump engineer. This was only happened after the energy company, sponsoring the Eco4 contractor, had sent out an independent inspector who failed the installation. The approved heating engineer had to fix the system by re plumbing and re wiring, adding frost stats and magnetic filter. Got there in the end and it’s fantastic having a warm home.

Not sure what the eco 4 system is.
We looked into getting a heat pump but they are expensive to run. We took out all our central heating 18 months ago. We have fully insulated, including under the floors, walls and roof. Window panes have been replaced to energy efficient ones, we have a ventilation system which takes out stale air and heats up air being drawn back in. We have a log burner which warms the house when it is really cold outside. Usually have to let it go out 30 to 60 minutes after lighting as house retains the heat. Our winter bills are much less now.

The Eco4 scheme provides energy-efficient improvements for eligible households, focusing on reducing energy bills. Many have found it beneficial for upgrading heating systems and insulation, though eligibility requirements can vary.

I’ve seen quite a few people benefit from the ECO4 scheme, especially those on certain benefits or with low household income. It’s designed to improve energy efficiency — including free boiler replacements, insulation, and sometimes even first-time central heating.

As usual with most of these thing you have to receive some sort of benefit.
We had to instal and pay for our air pump ourselves
