Dull Christmas adverts

By dull, I mean dark coloured with nothing of the bright reds and greens and golds one normally considers to be Christmas colours - and every advert ends with a table covered in loads of really quite unpleasant looking brown food that is the same colour as everything else in the ad.

I have yet to see a Christmas advert that doesn't put me off buying anything from the supermarket advertising its products.

In fact it isn't just supermarkets. This years John Lewis advert is as dull as ditchwater, and so are several others where I haven't even been motivated enough to work out what store it is and what it is meant to be selling.

Please, retailers, Christmas is a happy cheerful time when we decorate our houses and gardens with lights. Please do not give us adverts that remind one of dull November afternoons (like today)

Most Winter clothes seem to be dull as well. SO many dark browns, black, grey, dark burgundies... I like all those colours but don't want to dress in them every day.

I absolutely agree with you MOnica, this time of year is so depressing, we need as much brightness & sparkle as possible.
This, not only to counter the abysmal weather ( here anyway in the midlands) & much of the Uk, but also we desperately need a bit of sparkle & fizz to help us all to cope with the policies of the new labour government!
Saying this, I'm not sure I dare turn on the sparkle & fizz this year! I actually would like to hibernate till the gentle Spring with the benefit of hindsight with my old, smelly dog! 🤔

These adverts cost a huge amount of money. None of them have ever made me think that I must go and shop there, so I wonder if they are profitable for the business.

Yes, given their cost it is amazing they are all so dull.

I haven’t noticed any particularly dull Christmas adverts.

I have just come back from a large local(ish) shopping mall, there were plenty of bright clothes along with a smattering of burgundy which is the in colour this season.

The shops were all pretty and bright.

John Lewis, Waitrose, Sainsburies, Aldi, almost every big shop chain advert is done in dark colours browns, night times without bright red Father Christmas sleighs with golden reindeer, or even stars or a bright moon. the John Lewis advert gives an impression of the wonderful world of sludge colours, and the final ta ra of the food adverts, an overfilled table of mid brown food is difficuclt to seperate from the matching colours surrounding it and all the family in dull safe Christmas sweaters.

My eyes glaze over when they come on and I find them all indistinguishable.

McDonald's Ad is colourful.

Not seen that one.

I love the colour burgundy, it really suits me (even if I say so myself) but I haven't noticed a proliferation of it. In fact I don't think I've seen it much at all. Where am I going wrong?

Yes , the McDonalds ad is full of colours. Not that it would entice me to eat the revolving food.
