I last wore tights about 11 years and only because it was the first time in 20 years I’d worn a dress. It was to an Irish wedding. A very lively one with a ceili band.

I slipped on the dance floor and tore a hole in the knee of my tights. I was having too much fun to bother about it. After another few energetic dances the hole gradually became bigger. Then I suddenly felt a strange sensation on my leg. The leg of the tights completely detached itself at the knee and slid down to my ankle 😀

Oh dear, that made me laugh but I know what Irish weddings are like!

I wear opaque tights in black, plum and dark green depending on what else I have on. I wear them with soft green leather ankle boots by Gudrun Sjoden or my claret biker boots.

When I was 16/17 I worked in school holidays and weekends in a shop that sold tights. They were just coming into fashion then and were brands like Mary Quant, Pretty Polly, Charnos. A Rep called one day and let me choose a pair in just about every colour in the range if I could persuade my boss to carry that range. I did and the tights lasted me for ages.

I haven't worn a dress or skirt since I retired, so no tights needed. Trousers are so much more comfortable and practical.

Thick opaque tights with dresses here now it is cooler. I try to find either bamboo or cotton ones as I prefer to use plant fibres. They can be a bit saggy sometimes, but they last well.

Thick and opaque here for me, just sometimes though with boots and dresses or skirts. A nice change from my jeans,

Stockings ? Not since I was a teenager. I hated all the scaffolding that went with them.

I love all the coloured varieties.

Very rarely, I hate how they pull even if they are a good make with a gusset. I usually wear legging under my trousers in the winter and just trousers in the summer, if I do HAVE to wear a skirt I wear thick opaque coloured tights in the winter and try to get away with bare legs in the summer. I love bare legs and bare feet, so live in shorts when I can but I do feel the cold too so it is a balance act.

I was looking to buy thick bamboo tights to wear with dresses and boots, has anyone had experience of them?

Snag tights are wonderful. Lots of different colours ,sizes and deniers. They are fairly expensive but wash well, mine are 3 years old.

If forced to wear a dress, I wear thick opaque tights. I have a large bag of hardly worn tights left over from my working days (16 years ago). I think they will see me out. Much prefer wearing jeans or trousers.

I always used to wear tights, my skirts were too short for stockings! Now I can't bear either, they make my legs itch so much. Only wear a dress in summer and nothing on my legs then, should I wear a dress for a special occasion in winter I would wear over the knee socks but that doesn't happen often.

Rarely these days I have never found a comfortable pair, so wear trousers.

It has to be hot and sunny to tempt me out of tights. My legs get very cold and aren’t the smoothest these days. Sheer tights under dresses and opaque tights under jeans in the warmer weather, fleece tights under everything when it’s cold.

I always preferred stockings to tights that never fit in the crotch and tend to hang down.

Now, however, it is impossible to find stockings the so-called stay up ones don't on me and not even porn shops are a reliable source of suspender belts now.

Did wear stocking then progressed to tights when they became popular. Only wear opaque tights now with dresses and long tops.

Last time of wearing flesh colour tights was 25 years ago as a compulsory part of my work uniform.

The company became enlightened and allowed us to then wear trousers, happy days.

Nowadays long dresses in summer, short dresses/ skirts with opaque black or coloured tights, mostly jeans and trousers though I hate being and feeling trussed up like a chicken.

I made a huge fuss aged about 14 when DM expected me to wear white socks to a teenage party. Eventually she allowed me to wear a suspender belt and stocking of hers. I realised that it was a horrible garment but accepted that it was part of growing up, like the curse, but boy was I glad when tights came in a few short years later.

I don't wear dresses very often, but have tights both sheer and opaque in several colours. I haven't had to buy any in years since mine don't get much wear.

I’ ve just gone into wearing tights under trousers in this cold weather, plus socks inside boots. I have at last found some tights that fit me, so comfortable.

I rarely wear dresses or skirts so also rarely wear tights or stockings, but reading these coments has reminded me I used to have warm tights in the winter and I still have some stashed away. I may get them out to wear under my trousers in this bitter cold weather as it may reduce the heating bill.

I’m quite petite but have fat legs and have never found tights that fitted me. Made worse by the fact that you can’t try them on before you buy them so I’ve got a drawer full of ones that don’t fit. I don’t really wear dresses these days and it’s annoying that, when there was a period of time when I was going to a few weddings Snag tights weren’t around.

I have saved up long ago worn tight and have used them to stuff a draught excluder. Just an alternative to keep you warm.

I wore stockings with suspenders when younger, then tights when they became popular. If wearing a skirt or frock I sometimes wear crotch less tights. They are cooler and more comfortable than regular tights.

Footless tights (opaque, 60+ denier) are great for wearing under trousers, tunics or leggings in the winter, and can do more than one wear before washing. With dresses, I wear opaque tights, usually black, but I also have red, purple and navy. Getting the right size is crucial for comfort.

I love my tights, they keep my legs warm and in the opaque style, look lovely with a knee length skirt and high boots. They also give my tummy and hips a bit of shape.

I'm a very chilly person, generally wear tights under trousers. Today I'm wearing tights, lined wool trousers, vest and cashmere sweater, it was 1° whenI went out this morning and only 4° degrees when I came home at lunchtime. I wear M and S opaque tights in the colder weather.
