What should you have been impressed by but were not ?

A thing that stands out for me is the costumes my mother used to make for me for nativity plays. She was an artist and used to create very nice outfits, straight out of a 15th century painting. All I wanted was a white nightie with a bit of tinsel like the other angels. I tried to be grateful, but I just hated looking different.

Being allowed a taste of Sanatogen Tonic Wine one Christmas when I was young.

I thought it would be a sort of glorious ‘pop’.

Yuk!

Such a disappointment!

So many things! On a visit to London when I was seven, Buckingham Palace was a big disappointment. Where were the turrets and battlements that surely a palace should have? 10 Downing Street also (one could walk along it in those days). It didn’t appear to even have a garden. At the Natural History Museum, the jawbone of a whale was certainly big, but so what? Not impressed.

Welsh Rarebit(rabbit)!
I was to have a photo taken and my aunt treated us to lunch.
I heard the choices and chose Welsh Rarebit, as I love rabbit.
I was so disappointed when the posh cheese on toast appeared.

We were not very well off and I went to a school that had a uniform My mum was a seamstress and made all my clothes and although she was brilliant you could just abut tell it wasn’t shop bought Nobody bullied me but there were obvious digs ‘ ‘oh is yours home made’ etc etc

I went to Bruges for 3 days. It was a much-anticipated break but I felt one day would have been enough.

My first ever date. He was late to the cinema and brought one of his mates along and all through the film he kept making stupid jokes with his mate. Once the film finished he asked if I wanted to go home with him because his mum had made sandwiches, I said no but that I was sure his mate would go with him. Which he did. Well, we were only fourteen.

Usually it seems to be people.

Three items of food: caviar - tasted like fishy jam; birds nest soup - appalling, sharks fin soup - equally appalling.

Mum used to make mine and my sister’s clothes. We would have loved shop-bought!

The DJ at our recent 50th WA party. He cost £300 too. I wish we’d just set up a playlist really - background music the first couple of hours then ramped it up with a different playlist for murder on the dance floor. 🤣

That was my disappointment also.

Not me but my daughter aged 13ish begged us for a pot noodle, she asked why she couldn’t have one for “tea” like her friends.
We relented, she chose her pot noodle and couldn’t wait until we sat down to eat, she opened it poured on the boiling water,stirred and proceeded to eat, 2 mouthfuls in she declared the most disgusting thing she had ever eaten.
She was then begging for the homemade lasagne on the table.
