I knew because DH told me last night and it was also on Scam Interceptors.

Mind you, when DH told me I thought it was another scam!

Scam texts. Ie, hi mum it’s me, lost phone blah blah.
We have a password that we can ask the sender to use.

Yes, Notspaghetti, once you name your bank/building society, the automated system dials your bank/BS number for you so that you are connected straight away to the bank/BS fraud department and you can then speak to someone about your problem. It saves hunting around for the number yourself.

Yes it does,also the numbers are easy to recall as its in a diagonal order on key pads.

Yes, it was repeated on Scam Interceptors this evening too.

Yes, it was mentioned on Morning Live this morning. I was already aware of the number, but agree with you infoman that it’s useful to mention it here as some people may be unaware.

If you think you’ve been scammed, this is the number to call, as an automated voice asks you which bank/building society you wish to speak to, and it automatically dials their number for you once you name your bank/Building society, so you can safely speak to them.
