Posters have been complaining on other threads about Starmer being described in less than flattering terms, and denying that any other PM has been described in an unflattering way.

As for me, I’m saying nothing about either of them.

Bit hard not to critique either the man nor the book, when it’s the entire purpose of this post?

People either admire Johnson or they don’t. I don’t but I accept many did and many still do.

Just I despise Farage and Trump, many many don’t, for a myriad of reason, very few of which I understand.

Starmer is just as well educated as Johnson and probably just as clever.

The salient difference is Starmer earned his education, Johnson had his paid for by Daddy.

Boris Johnson was and is our Donald Trump...very bad for the UK imo

This thread is specifically about an autobiography and the writer is described as inspirational in the O/P inviting comment. Bit hard to discuss anything else.

Quite offensive really to the millions of families whose children can't afford fee paying schools or either don't have access to grammar schools or disagree with their principle and make choices for state education

To say those parents and their children - like my own family - don't make efforts, don't invest time and work, dont have aspirations, is outrageous:

I think he is making the point that having that choice is important, he is not criticising teachers. I couldnt afford fee paying schools for my three, but did not envy or want to take away the choice of those who could.

Found a summary/context, so that's where he acquired the phrase.

My Mum taught in a comprehensive when they started up and I recall those tropes from the 1970's.

It really is offensive for families and the teachers who cared and still do care!

Looking at that quote it's plain that he has nothing original to say. Those kinds of accusations have been directed at 'the left' for decades. He's just rehashing old tropes.

...and he lied to Parliament...( I'm a stuck record, I know)
Is " entertaining " and having a " good sense if humour" an important set of criteria for a Prime Minister ?
His party - including Cabinet Members appointed by him seemed to see him as a liability at the end, rather than inspirational.

I was just thinking the other day what a great joy it is to go onto websites and listen to the news and see nothing whatever about this dreadful man - what a relief - until this OP!!
