Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

Kind thoughts to all with worries, illness or sorrow. I'm hoping and praying that the New Year brings gentler days. 💕🕯🙏

Thank you for the group hug, 💕, just what I needed on this most reflective of days.

It’s been another wild and windy day up here in Inverness, I’m pleased to be home now with nothing else to do for the rest of today
Take care all and I’ll join soop and all kitchen friends in the group hug 🤗

Adding my Best Wishes for a “Happy New Year” for everyone as 2024 ticks away,
to many who write regularly in this lovely Kitchen which soop started, and those who sit quietly.

I’m not feeling great (just a cold) and my drink of choice to propose a toast is hot water, lemon and a tot of brandy. 🤧
As soopsays you are All special people.
🥂 🎉

My new year resolution is to try and keep up with the kitchen news…

Hogmanay greetings to you lovely lot. May the coming year be extra KIND to you all.

We spent a relaxing Christmas that included a few hours spent with friends and some simple treats. I was thinking of all our Kitcheners who deserve comfort and peace of mind.

Flu is doing it's rounds in the village. We aim to stay safe because Mr Soop is immune-suppressed. He had his dressings changed this morning. He's now seeing the optician. Next week, on the same day, we have appointments at two different Glasgow hospitals. Mr Soop will travel by bus and taxi. My friend will be driving me to my appointment for the scan on the parastomal hernia. It's a pity that the two hospitals are distant from each other.

Once again, the weather is wild and windy. We will hunker down with a simple supper tonight and enjoy a very special wee dram. Slainte!

Take good care of yourselves. I shall return. When I do so, I would very much like to fully catch up with all your news. I do not own a tablet thingy. I only check the computer occasionally.

A group hug awaits our special Granspals. smile

Having seen the score, will he want to watch FGT? Last evening I got bored and rather despondent but this morning I have woken in a better mood. I can lift my foot off the floor, which I thought was never going to happen! Time to attack those exercises I think. It’s a whole week since surgery.
My thought s are with everyone in the quiet corner 💓

‘Evening All’.

Well we’ve had a wonderful day! Lucky us. A car, no calls on our time by either end of the family. Lovely!

We went to Glazebury to the big garden centre. Bought a yellow scented rose bush in commemoration of our 50th WA in September (thank you Whitewave for your advice weeks ago!) and a beautiful William Morris designed pot for it. Compost too. Went to the busy cafe there. Enjoyed treats. Home. Planted up said rose right next to the front door. It will remind me of our joyful celebration every time I put my key in the front door now.

Then went down to the bar below as it was 3pm. A late tapas lunch and a glass of Merlot for me completed our day. Himself is SO much his old self these days I can hardly believe it. Long may this continue - and not on treatment either. It’s pretty bluddy amazing to be honest. Sometimes I even forget he has cancer - how good is that?

Potatoes in the oven now ready in an hour. I’ve got bbc iPlayer to watch, Himself might watch the Man. Utd match later….

I slept well last night, so have felt quite energetic today. A lovely sunny day, but with a chilly breeze. Had a short walk this morning, the first one unaccompanied. Managed to vacuum the hall and sitting room, very carefully & trying not to twist round. Did some exercises to help my back and felt better afterwards.
A friend called this afternoon, it was good to see her and catch up with her news. I’m gradually putting stuff away upstairs but the dining room still looks a mess. I’ll carry on tomorrow and may even try a bit of ironing.
Enjoy your evening everyone.

Grandmabatty Mon 30-Dec-24 18:52:56

Everybody is welcome FGT. I never knowingly underfeed so there's plenty 😊

Jaxjacky Mon 30-Dec-24 18:52:02

H all, just cramming for quiz 🙂
I hope the new knee ladies are coping well; no wet down here and certainly no snow brook
Bought some healthier food today, the sweet bits in the house I'm not bothered by, pate and cheese, oh dear; so fruit and plain yoghurt, salad bits and more eggs.p to start

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 30-Dec-24 18:28:19

Ooh that sounds so organised and tidy Grandmabatty! Could you set me a place please it all sounds delightful in your bungalow.

Grandmabatty Mon 30-Dec-24 18:25:32

Good evening Kitcheners. Brook a lovely catch up with your ds. Your walk sounds nice too. I was at the butchers for just after eight for a steak pie, bacon and steak for casseroling. Then a trip to Tesco for everything I need for New Year. Both places were empty. Once home, I have taken down all the decorations and the tree and put them away and done a couple of washes.
Tomorrow I will set the table for New Year then prepare all the veg and the trifle. I'll change the bedding too and get the housework done before The Bells. So a busy couple of days ahead. Take care all. Our weather is to be frightful

brook2704 Mon 30-Dec-24 17:34:05

Hi kitchen pals, I’m home now and sat by the fire after a trip into town and a walk by the river this morning. Everywhere is very wet, the river is very high and fast flowing and there’s more rain and snow on its way ⛄️
I had a lovely FaceTime call with DS this morning, he’s enjoying his skiing and keeping busy, it’s always good to hear his news and see that he’s ok
Hope your knee is doing well nannytopsy and not too painful
Hope everyone is doing ok, especially those in the quiet corner, take care all x

Nannytopsy Mon 30-Dec-24 17:00:50

It’s quiet here today! Suffolk is very chilly but it has been a lovely clear and sunny day.

brook2704 Sun 29-Dec-24 22:08:45

Sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly grandmabatty, hope you’re a bit better in the morning and can get your shopping done quickly then back home 💐

Grandmabatty Sun 29-Dec-24 21:58:55

Yes FGT. I'm not on childcare until a week on Monday. I intend to get up early tomorrow to do the food shopping for New Year's Day. The forecast for Hogmanay and New Year's Day is pretty awful..😱

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 29-Dec-24 21:53:30

Hope you feel better in the morning Grandmabatty. I imagine as it’s the Christmas break you’re not on grandma duty so can take it easy?

Jaxjacky Sun 29-Dec-24 21:42:59

Sorry to hear that Grandmabatty stay warm, hopefully improving tomorrow x

Grandmabatty Sun 29-Dec-24 21:20:56

Good evening Kitcheners. I've felt unwell today and cancelled going to visit mum. I fact, I went back to bed and have snoozed most of the day. I'm going to make a cuppa and then return to bed. Have a pleasant evening.
