Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

‘Evening All’.

Really cold here in Urmston too Jax. Brr!
However we’re cosy and well fed. Himself is just washing up. No dishwasher here. 😁
I’ve just had a schooner (remember them?) of HBC sherry. First one for 🎄
Always reminds me of the Berni Inns in Manchester City centre back in the day - early 70’s I felt so sophisticated! - steak houses - ‘Barnaby Rudge’ and I cannot for the life think of the name of t’other one. It’ll come to me …. 🤔

Jaxjacky Tue 10-Dec-24 19:05:32

Hi all, boy it’s cold still (just put the bin out) we still have the NW wind.
We’ve been to see my brother and his wife, he cooked and I could see why he doesn’t often do it, every pan!! It was lovely to see them both and their dog.
Hope you’ve all had a great day corner worth the early start.
Very hard decisions SueD I wish you both a gentle path ahead with the best outcome.
Amazon and other online shops are my longstanding best friends Grannmarie hence a full green bin tonight!!
Our tree will come in on Thursday and be decorated along with the coffee table covered firstly with a cloth, then my snow globes.
At the weekend I’ll be foraging for greenery and a basic wreath that I’ll titivate, it’s beginning to feel…

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! 🥰 🎄 Soop, I hope you and your wonderful man are doing OK despite the 'bu####ations!

Redcar, 100 yards walking 🚶 you're a star!🌟
I'm delighted for you both, FGT, wonderful news, NHS at its best. 🥂
YiaYia, so sorry to hear about your DH, hope he gets suitable inhalers to help with the COPD.
Nannytopsy, great news about your TKR!
Cornergran, hope you've all enjoyed your coach trip.
SueD, great news about your DS's scans.
👍Big decision for your DH, a young friend of mine (50) is having Immunotherapy just now, her only side effect so far is a rash.🤞
Happy belated birthday wishes, Mrs hat, all the sevens!💐🎂
Sounds like a good day, Grandmabatty, glad the painting went well.
You'll be glad to have your DH home brook, sounds like a nice day out together.

We've had freezing fog here all day, tricky driving, I couldn't see the end of the street. Slow progress. It's now -2 with fog till lunchtime tomorrow. My friend and I went to visit our former Infant Mistress from our early days of teaching. We usually have a Christmas catch up with afternoon tea in a nice hotel, but this lady has been ill in hospital so we took some delicious cakes to her cosy home in the sheltered housing complex. We had a great time reminiscing, and eating! It was good to see her, lovely lady.
Well, my house is decorated, tree is up, some presents wrapped and under the tree, but still quite a few things to buy. We did a couple of shopping trips, DH said ' Never again!' so now, like UsedToBeBlonde, Amazon is our friend!
Thinking of all in the quiet corner, especially those with illness, worries or sorrow. Please forgive me if I haven't mentioned you by name, but I have read all your posts now and I am TOYA.

Sorry to hear about your poor DH Yia, hoping things improve a bit soon, sending hugs

Wishing your DH all the best for his forthcoming treatment SueD and for a very positive outcome x

Grandmabatty Tue 10-Dec-24 17:41:07

Yiayia your poor husband. I hope he can be helped soon. Cornergran I hope you have enjoyed your trip.
Today has involved lots of painting - in the kitchen. I'm not making that mistake again! Games of kerplunk, hide and seek and playing with plastic food. Dgs1 had a good day at school but was shattered afterwards. The pair of them are continually until I took them home. I'm watching rubbish on TV and about to have dinner. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

mrshat Tue 10-Dec-24 16:48:45

Neine I'm seven years older than you to the day!! Sorry your day was blighted with sadness but as others have said, it is their loss.
Positive thoughts and every good wish for all of you with mountains to climb and difficult decisions to be made.
A day at a time is the way forward.
It is also lovely to hear positive news, so continue to make memories and enjoy the good times.
Love to you all. flowers

soop Tue 10-Dec-24 14:44:15

My love and every good wish are winging their way to every Kitchener in need of comfort. If I could make your concerns evaporate into the ether, I most surely would. Bless you all.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 10-Dec-24 14:00:41

Another ”oh dear” for you this time SueD.
A difficult choice to make, I hope the medics are giving you some guidance, after all they are the experts.
It would seem that Immunology is a super treatment for those who can have it.
My neighbour next door but one, only early 40’s , is well after his treatment which was the second cancer diagnosis in about 3 years but I don’t know if it was a new cancer or a return of the first one.
However he seems back to his old self.

I hope all are keeping warm, Amazon deliveries are beating a path to my door on a regular basis and honestly I don’t know if I miss the old days of trudging round shops, probably not.

Take care everyone and try to keep on top of things.

SueDonim Tue 10-Dec-24 13:08:57

I’m so sorry, Yia. Life can be so cruel. flowers
Topsy, that’s a very different kind of Christmas present! Still, I’m sure it’ll be very welcome after a long wait. Xx
Your good news deserves an extra sherry for Christmas, FGT! My DS’s latest scans have come back looking good, too.
Neine I’m sorry your special birthday was filled with sad thoughts. I wish your children could see what they’re missing. flowers

We’ve been mulling over dh’s latest appointment and he thinks he will have immunotherapy treatment. It’s the gold standard for his particular condition but it comes with added risks as he has a long-standing autoimmune disease which could be exacerbated. Though to tell the truth, all the options the doctor outlined seemed to have dire side effects. Choose your poison, literally?

Otherwise, we’ve been doing Christmas things and I’m about to do more in a few minutes. The tree needs to go up but presents-wrapping is in hand and food-buying means the spare freezer is now on. Only one AC is currently in the country, the two boys are both in the US and older dd in the Canaries with her family. Lucky them!

TOYA. Xxx

GrannyGravy13 Tue 10-Dec-24 07:21:14

Sorry to read your DH has another hurdle to clear YiaYia 🌸

cornergran Tue 10-Dec-24 04:49:43

Wide awake for fear I’d miss the alarm for our very early start today. A long coach day out with our friends.

It will be worth it nannyt.

That’s very good news FGT.

I’m so sorry yia. You’re both having such a hard time. Go gently.

TOYA.

Nannytopsy Tue 10-Dec-24 00:28:25

Hugs to Yia , soop & FGT, although all for different reasons.
Can’t sleep tonight - it appears that I may have a date for my TKR! December 24th. I said it would be Christmas week!! Well that’s a buggeration on all the Christmas plans but I shall readily accept after a long wait.

Jaxjacky Mon 09-Dec-24 22:20:21

You must be despondent Yia whilst trying to cheer up your husband, you have my sympathy x
Great news FGT ‘I’m walking in the air’ must be your song tonight.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 09-Dec-24 22:13:46

Oh Yia such upsetting news for you.
You just don’t seem to be getting a break.
Good news from FriedGreenTomatoes which is lovely for them but it is balanced , just like life itself, with sadness in others.

GrannySomerset Mon 09-Dec-24 22:04:54

FGT just wanted to say how lovely your news is, and how grateful you must be to have such excellent care. So pleased for you both.

Yiayia4 Mon 09-Dec-24 21:57:04

Very late but Happy Birthday Neine I’m so sorry your sad today and I feel your pain.🌹
Well another day at A&E for us,DH took a turn for the worse. He was coughing all night and his breathing is terrible. They think he has underlying COPD which would explain it.So another thing to add to the list, you really can’t make this up.I just wonder how much more he can take.
Another miserable post from me sorry.
Sleep well all.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 09-Dec-24 21:09:39

‘Evening All’.

We were at The Christie hospital this afternoon and came home on a ‘high’. Professor Mansoor himself ◀️ walked into our consultation room today (he’s a lovely man, warm, kind and so very reassuring in his expertise) and said “see you at the end of February with your next scan results. Great to see you putting on weight. Enjoy your Christmas it’s much deserved!”.

I hope the tumour keeps on ‘sleeping’. 🤞🤞🤞

Oh neine a special milestone birthday tinged with sorrow because of hopes dashed. I really do feel for you tonight.

cornergran Mon 09-Dec-24 20:43:42

Birthdays are special, I’m so sorry yours began with sadness neine . Sending love and a hope the day became lighter and you could enjoy your day.

Thorntrees Mon 09-Dec-24 20:34:25

Sending you love for your birthday*neine*,but sorry to hear of the sadness.
Have made my Christmas door decoration today and filled a bowl with holly and lights to put beside the front door.
Wishing everyone a peaceful night.

Redcar Mon 09-Dec-24 20:13:08

I’m sorry that you’re feeling so sad today neine and hope that tomorrow will be a better day for you (although it won’t be your birthday)
A bright morning here but a grey and very cold afternoon. I went for a short walk again today, about 100 yards, which I found tiring. It’s further than the previous walk, so progress!
Made an appointment to see the consultant to be signed off, on January 2nd. I hope to be much better by then.
I’m now tucked up in bed, cuddling a hot water bottle, reading everyone’s posts. Then will find something to watch on the iPlayer.
Night night everyone, stay warm.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 09-Dec-24 18:52:15

Sending you (((hugs))) Naughtyneine

brook2704 Mon 09-Dec-24 18:44:22

Sorry that you’re feeling so sad today neine on your 70th Birthday, sending hugs and hope you feel a bit brighter soon x

Jaxjacky Mon 09-Dec-24 18:03:58

Hi all, a rather odd day on the voluntary phone, I’m wondering if the Sherry bottles are open already!
A dull day with rain showers, still blustery and a ‘feels like -1’ I shall have my big coat on for the short journey to quiz later.
I hope you’ve found some light on your day neine
I’m aware of those heading into this festive season with heavy hearts and bittersweet memories ❤️

NannyG4 Mon 09-Dec-24 16:57:02

Happy Birthday niece, thinking of you….why is life so sad sometimes…..

Just popping into the quiet corner for some reflection time….

My love, strength and prayers to ALL of you….they say the sun always shines above the clouds……

With love ❤️

Grannmarie Mon 09-Dec-24 16:19:35

Dear Niene, I'm sorry that today is so hard for you. As Septimia says, it's their loss.
Please take some comfort from knowing that you are not alone, you have your wonderful DH, and you've got us lot, as Soop says! It's not too late to find a little joy on this special day. Sending love and prayers for your peace of mind. 💕🙏
