Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

Great to hear that your DH is looking brighter, SueD. Take care.
Hope Ladyleftfieldlover and UsedToBeBlonde feel better soon. Kind regards to NannyG4 and all in the quiet corner. Thinking of MrSoop, hope he's comfortable.
I can hear noises from the street of neighbours taking their full bins back in...

SueDonim Thu 23-Jan-25 21:48:24

Thank you, you lovely people. ❤️

Dh looked brighter today than he has for the past week. Such a relief, I assume the new meds are working. I’m not seeing him tomorrow as I got the red warning alert on my phone while visiting him and will be staying close to home while the storm passes over.

Stay safe, everyone. Xx

Redcar Thu 23-Jan-25 20:46:40

sueD so sorry that your DH is in hospital and hope that the treatment will soon enable him to be discharged and return home.
utbb hope you’ll soon feel better.
I had an email from my car insurers giving me their phone numbers in case of damage to my car during the gales. We’re in a yellow warning area so hoping it won’t be too bad. It’s bin day here tomorrow so no doubt there’ll be rubbish strewn all over the road. We had some torrential rain this afternoon for a while, then it cleared and we had some lovely sunshine for a couple of hours.
Please take care everyone, especially those of you in the red warning areas.
Night night! I hope the wind and rain don’t keep us all awake in the night.

Grannmarie Thu 23-Jan-25 20:43:47

Well, I've battened down the hatches, wind proofed the garden, charged my gadgets and power banks and made soup. We are going nowhere tomorrow, the Wee Boy's school is closed and we've been warned not to travel. I nearly had a heart attack when the phone alert went off, quite scary. Morning Mass is cancelled, all the usual attendees have been contacted. All
trains, buses, bin collections and non urgent medical appointments have been cancelled. Hoping and praying that things are not as bad as predicted, but at least we can prepare. I'll fill a flask later tonight.

Belated Happy birthday to Finley, Jaxjacky, and well done on his MOTM!

Wishing everyone a safe and peaceful Thursday evening, TOYA, NNGB.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 23-Jan-25 20:43:08

Thanks Jax home half an hour ago. Himself watching the ⚽️ in the other room. Very quiet in there, must be half time soon!

Get well soon utbb. x

cornergran Thu 23-Jan-25 20:25:42

Get well wishes utbb, for your husband too sued. Hugs for anyone poorly or simply finding life is like running up a sand hill.

There was a terrific hailstorm here this morning, the wind has picked up now and it feels very cold. We had a short walk this afternoon when the sun emerged for an hour, the wind was bitter then.

Take care everyone, thinking particularly of those in a red warning area, definitely best to take that one seriously.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 23-Jan-25 20:04:48

Get well soon, UTBB. There’s a lot of it about.

Jennynanna Thu 23-Jan-25 18:27:43

Just cooking dinner ,got shepards pie tonight
Husband is unblocking the washing machine filter as it wasn't working earlier ,not good with a toddler indoors

Usedtobeblonde Thu 23-Jan-25 18:19:03

I am in bed, I am far from well but enough of that.
I have just had an email from my home insurers urging me to batten down the hatches and make preparations for the storm.
Actually we are forecast showers and breezy conditions.
For all of going to be affected I urge you to be careful and stay safe and warm.

Jaxjacky Thu 23-Jan-25 18:10:23

Hi all, after stretch class this morning I was off to the library and farm shop in heavy rain, cold too. An hour later it was sunny with blue skies, a hefty downpour at school exit time continued the theme.
So sorry to hear that SueD I hope he’ll soon be well enough to go home.
llfl I’d hoped you were improving, staying snug is the best medicine, nasty bugs are about.
Welcome Jennynanna
Enjoy your curry FGT heat from the inside out.

Grandmabatty Thu 23-Jan-25 18:07:14

The government warning just went off. It's looking serious

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 23-Jan-25 18:00:27

‘Evening All’.

It’s chucking it down here in south Manchester. Very cold too. We are off out - just over the road for a curry. We will have to wrap up well even for the 3 minute walk as it’s Baltic out there. We had planned a meal in the other direction at our favourite Italian place but just seen they’re offering 40% off all meals Sun - Thursday in January. Himself think it will be rammed (probably right) so curry it is for us lovebirds instead. Then home by 8pm as ⚽️ is on…. Man. Utd -v- Rangers!

I’ve just been catching up on the UK weather news, tomorrow’s storm sounds awful so please stay safe everyone. Good that you’ve secured your garden grandmabatty
No stormy weather here, a few fluffy clouds today with lots of sunshine, very relaxing
Hoping you feel better soon llfl, it’s a shame that your sons had to cancel his trip but necessary with the forecast. I hope he can rearrange it again soon
Hope kitchen friends in the quiet corner are doing ok today, sending hugs 🤗

GrannySomerset Thu 23-Jan-25 15:46:25

SueD, I hope having a proper diagnosis at last is the key to your DH’s recovery and that you are able to look after yourself. Somehow feels even worse at this time of the year.

Yiayia4 Thu 23-Jan-25 15:38:33

SueD I hope your DH will soon be feeeling better and back home with you.💐

soop Thu 23-Jan-25 15:36:33

Special love to SueD and her dear husband.

A warm welcome to Jennynanna.

I shall return a little later.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 23-Jan-25 14:49:06

Good afternoon Kitchen people. I’m slumped on the sofa wrapped in my British Airways blanket.

I’ve just been chatting to elder son. He and his partner had planned to go to south west Scotland tomorrow and spend the weekend looking at properties off the beaten track. Well, they’ve just realised that the weather is predicted to be appalling. They’ve cancelled. I was supposed to be going to look after my granddaughter tomorrow and stay until Monday. That’s not happening now!

In a way, I’m relieved. I still have a rotten cold and feel quite wimpy. I would have managed of course, particularly as I was going by train. My car is getting a little unreliable and my new one won’t be here until next week. I hope.

Grandmabatty Thu 23-Jan-25 13:48:25

I'm really sorry to hear about your husband Suedonim. I hope he responds to treatment quickly. Soop I hope Mr Soop isn't too sore.
Brook you are better off in Spain! The weather here in Scotland is wet, wet and more wet! The forecast for tomorrow is dire. Many, if not all schools are closed. I've tried to wind proof the garden this afternoon but who knows?
If you are in the path of Storm Eowyn, take care and stay safe x

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Jan-25 08:29:45

SueD your DH will hopefully respond to treatment and be back home with you as soon as possible 🌸

brook2704 Thu 23-Jan-25 07:52:44

Oh SueD so sorry to hear your DH ended up in hospital but good that the consultant now knows what’s going on and can sort him out soon. Sending ❤️

Grannmarie Thu 23-Jan-25 00:02:20

Welcome, jennynanna, you will enjoy Soop's special Kitchen!

Grannmarie Thu 23-Jan-25 00:00:29

A very late Good Evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

SueD, so sorry to hear that your DH is in hospital but glad that he has a diagnosis and treatment has begun. Thinking of you both. 💕
Thinking of all Kitchen people who are worried about husbands/ loved ones. Hope Mr Soop is comfortable, YiaYia, Nannytopsy, so sorry your husbands are having a hard time.
Grandmabatty, your new challenge sounds ideal for your skills and experience, and comes just at the right time for you, enjoy!!
Neine, hoping and praying that all goes well for you. 🙏🕯

Cold and frosty here this morning. My car was like an igloo because I forgot to put it in the garage last night. I ran out at 8 to put on the blowers and front/ rear heated windscreens then came back in for a cup of tea until all was defrosted... I watched from the dining room window. I managed to collect my friend in good time for Mass and Coffee Morning!

Wishing everyone a peaceful night and a restful sleep, TOYA, NNGB.

GrandmaC47 Wed 22-Jan-25 23:54:19

brook2704

Good to get back to your previous dentist Jax 👍
Hi 👋 and welcome to jennynanna
There’s such a lot of kitcheners with medical issues and things to sort out, hoping all goes well for everyone
Gentle hugs to all in the quiet corner, thinking of you x

Thank you for the welcome ,much appreciated x

SueDonim Wed 22-Jan-25 23:22:17

I saw what you did there, FGT regarding GMbatty’s new library position. grin

Poor Dh, Yia you will be happy to see the end of this week.

I hope MrSoop is recuperating.

My Dh is now in hospital after becoming very unwell yesterday (I think it was yesterday, I’ve lost track of time). He had everyone baffled by a smorgasbord of unpleasant symptoms but today after a scan his consultant told us what they think is going on and he has begin treatment this evening. He will have to stay in for a few days but it’s a relief that while it’s a serious condition, we could have been looking at something worse.
