Good afternoon, everyone!

I had a good day yesterday/last night except for over the past few weeks as well as having to deal with loads of normal flies in my flat because of the weather drawing them out, I've also had to deal with the HUGE black things, massive wings and buzzy, built like helicopters, I absolutely hate them also!

At various times I've got my tin of Raid out and stalked the horrible beasties, day and night, and have found loads of dead ones all over the place but yesterday about 5 I was shoving a Co-Op Chicken Korma in the microwave for 8 minutes, just about to close the door and one of the scumbags actually tried to get in the microwave to mug me for my well-needed dinner! I shooed it out, closed the door quick and grabbed my Raid.

That night about 10 I was washing up, not much, just a spoon, a mug, a plate and a dish, left them on the draining board for a couple of minutes while I went to the loo to then dry and put them all away and there was a helicopter on the rim of my mug! OMG it was horrible! Sprayed, it fell in my mug, I quickly tipped water in and drowned it then tossed it down the plug 'ole!

After my emergency screaming abdabs I then went to the bedroom to grab my refillable water bottle to fill it with juice, back to the kitchen for refilling and there was another one on the draining board, sprayed and washed down the plug 'ole, and there was another propping up the kitchen wall! Sprayed!

And there was a dead one on my Beanie hat this morning just as I was about to grab it! UGH!

How DARE they be so repulsive? Very selfish and inconsiderate of them!

But other than that I had a great day and night!

Hi Blossoming 👋👋

Blossoming Tue 03-Dec-24 11:41:43

Good morning. The sun is shining in Lancashire today and it’s feeling colder. Keep warm and safe 🌹

GrannySomerset Tue 03-Dec-24 09:40:42

Yesterday’s visit to the dentist proved expensive but with nothing to be done - I think he has decided to leave well alone, with which I agree. The bill however was substantial. Flower club in the evening was fun with quizzes and a bring and share supper but finished late once the clearing up was done - by the same people each time, I notice.

Today is domestic with Wonderful Cleaner working her magic and me keeping out of her way. Might start on the cards, some of which will need a letter with them. Hope our various sufferers feel a bit better today.

Good morning from a very chilly County Durham.
Yesterday we had the joy of four of the GC for school pickup followed by tea here. A late rearrangement for GD1 to join us. Fortunately her secondary school finishes earlier than the primary the others attend so we were able to oblige. The younger ones love to see her as she is such an entertaining livewire.
All the dec's have now been moved into the conservatory awaiting a good sort through. I must be ruthless and get rid of some this year.
A trip to a garden centre to collect a gift then school pick up on repeat.
Have the best day you can all.

Good morning from Durham. Another cold, cloudy day, I haven’t posted recently, feeling uneasy - some family issues that can’t be resolved. A good friend is unwell and is having urgent X-rays, tests, scans and cameras - she’s a breast cancer survivor, so her mind is working overtime.
DD2 has bought something from FB Marketplace and asked me to pick it up at 10am - only 20mins away, but from 12-5, I’m stuck in the house awaiting an engineer’s visit to deal with a naughty radiator. I intend to write out my Xmas cards which need to be posted while I wait.
The house is again swathed in scaffolding for another job, which should start later this week - such joy (not) !

Mick is it worth asking your GP’s dietitian for some ideas to increase your weight, without aggravating your bowel condition?

Best wishes to all. X

Taichinan Tue 03-Dec-24 08:39:20

Good morning all from a frosty Angus coast. No sign of snow on the hills, but the day is young.
Mick I'm sorry you're having such a bad time but glad you've at least spoken to a doctor. I'm surprised he didn't want to see you, with your medical history though. Hope you feel better today.
Susan what a day! Safe travels.
And that's as far as I've got with reading posts. I have to be out soon to take the car to the garage (for new exhaust £££) and then walk from there to tai chi - about a ten minute walk. Back to the garage afterwards to collect (and pay for) the car and then that's me done for the day. I may be reasonably fit and agile for my age, but stamina I have not!
Have a good and safe day everyone and stay cosy x

hollysteers Tue 03-Dec-24 08:33:14

Good morning Mick and all from a 3°C brightening northwest coast.
Had my RSV jab yesterday and no reaction. I was meant to have my routine blood test just after it, but either the nurse or I forgot and that has had to be rearranged.

Also further fussing about re my blinking abscess (quiet at the moment). It appears the dentist had failed to send the radiograph to the hospital (I now need surgery) which has led to it being rejected time after time. What a business stretching back to July. I’ve now registered privately with a new dentist recommended by my neighbour as my current one is hopeless and I can never get through to them.

Music club today and I’m ‘on the desk’ for the first time since my op’. Can’t sing yet, so will read another of my poems.

Mick, I really don’t think you have had a one off, you need to take it further. Thoughts to all🌺

EkwaNimitee Tue 03-Dec-24 08:30:09

Good morning Mick and everyone from frosty Carlisle where heavy clouds are now gathering.
I'm sorry you're suffering Mick but good you've contacted your GP. I too wonder if your doc is getting the full picture. I'd suggest you try keeping a health diary which would be helpful for the doc and yourself in future. It's hard to remember all the facts when you talk with them. Is it worth keeping rehydration salts on hand, they'll make you feel better faster than plain water.

Yesterday was just the usual chores in the morning, finishing my book in the afternoon so back to the charity shop with it.
Today, another boring morning of jobs then that's it for the week. Then I might actually write my Christmas cards and make plans for the holiday. No decs up here...only me to see them! Some of the neighbours have got going with theirs outside. I'm glad the ones with flashing lights aren't opposite me, the flashing is detectable even with blinds down and my brain's always been susceptible to anything flashing. You can tell I'm a pagan at heart, the champagne will be coming out on the 21st!

Lots of unwellness seems to be going around! Best wishes and I hope you're all soon on the mend.

And have a good day all of you.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 03-Dec-24 08:21:20

Roses&Lilac I love the names of those Labs ‘Bog’ and’Fen’! Perfect duo.

Marydoll I feel your frustration. Annoying and anxiety-inducing in equal measure while you waited to be let back in I imagine.

What lucky grandchildren you have there GG13 setting off to Lapland today. Beyond magical for them at this age! 🧑‍🎄

Another here who is glad you’ve been in touch with your doctor Mick. I hope your tum settles soon and you regain that weight you’ve lost.

Kalu I hope your body responds soon to the medications you’re on in time for you to feel ‘more yourself’ at Christmas, which will be emotionally charged anyway. You can do without this extra angst. Big hugs. x

And Bellasnanna poor you. A friend of mine (70) has had ‘this’ cough for 10 weeks now. 4 courses of antibiotics and 2 chest x-rays. She goes back to the GP on Monday for the result of the 2nd one. He said he may need to refer her to a respiratory specialist and she’s understandably anxious. I know of so many seniors with this right now. I hope yours clears off soon! 😘

luluaugust Tue 03-Dec-24 08:16:46

Good morning from a bright W Kent. So sorry to hear about the various illnesses and upsets, a harsh winter for some. If the Queen’s cough is anything like mine I can understand why she is not on parade.
Card posting today and I am going to experiment with making an orange and cranberry cake. Whilst at a National Trust property the other day I was told it was their GF cake of the day but they had run out! so I thought I will make it myself.
Best wishes to all and safe journeys

baubles Tue 03-Dec-24 08:15:05

Good morning all, it’s cold and frosty here in South Lanarkshire.

My decking of the halls didn’t go to plan yesterday as the curtain lights I had bought for the kitchen window were so bright they could have thrown the ISS off course. Much mumping from DH ensued as I had to ask him to take it down after he had put the steps back in the garage. I rescued the receipt from the bin so hopefully it can be returned or exchange for something more subtle.

I’m doing the afternoon shift in the charity shop so as I’m not in any great rush this morning I’m having a lazy coffee in bed.

Best wishes to all those feeling below par today.

Liberty Tue 03-Dec-24 08:12:11

Good morning from Suffolk where a sunny day is forecast. The sky in the east was a lovely pale blue streaked with apricot tinges when I got up..

I’m meeting an old friend for coffee mid morning in a local independent shop which does the most delicious scones made by the young owner’s mother and sometimes sold out by 11am.

Safe travels Susan. You reminded me of the 5 hour trips we made to Bristol over 10 years ago for the 2 older DGC there when there was a Grandparents’ Dady at their Montessori nursery. Since their others live in Australia we felt duty bound!

We spent the morning there and had lunch which the children had helped to make, chopping the vegetables for the soup. Being Montessori this had been done with real knives.

Even then, the behaviour of the 2 was very different. DGD held one of our hands all the time and gave us a detailed tour of the nursery explaining every activity. DGS was delighted to see us,took us to see his favourite things and then wandered off, leaving his best friend Evie, to escort us upstairs for lunch!

As DH said at the time “ Every little boy needs an Evie”. They are now both delightful but very different teenagers, one excelling academically and the other living for sport.

Hope today is a positive one especially for those struggling with ill health or worry.

Grandmabatty Tue 03-Dec-24 08:10:10

Both boys were busy helping this morning. They are very excited. I thought this might give festive cheer

brook2704 Tue 03-Dec-24 08:05:44

Good morning from a dark and frosty Inverness, we arrived home on time last night after a good journey back from Cambridge. We’ve a bit of snow in the forecast but hopefully nothing much
My goodness harrigran that’s some disruption, hope it’s sorted soon
I’ve a bit of catching up to do today, a bit of food shopping and we’ll start putting some decorations up too
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Jaxjacky Tue 03-Dec-24 08:05:09

Christmas mug here too BlueSapphire and GG13

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 03-Dec-24 08:00:51

Morning all from a dreary looking West Oxfordshire.

I am taking my friend who recently had a hip operation to Oxford this morning. She is having a checkup and seeing the physio. Her husband is unable to drive anymore and she can’t for another couple of weeks. I will take sandwiches in case there’s a delay! Afterwards I will call in to see another friend who is still recovering from cancer treatment last year.

At some point today I will have to catch up on my V&A Art history lectures.

Have a good day everyone - glad you contacted your GP Mick.

Marydoll Tue 03-Dec-24 07:49:45

Good morning all, its 1°C here and rather chilly. Mr MD has thoughtfully organised the boiler service for this morning, hence my early posting.
I asked him to check I was up early, so as not be rushing. Thank goodness I slept badly, for he is nowhere to be seen!

He is in the bad books anyway. Yesterday, I went out to pick up my prescriptions, returning to find he was up the loft and I could not get in, because he had locked the door and left the key in the lock.🤬
He had decided to get all the Christmas stuff down, despite asking him to wait until Friday, because of the boiler service and looking after Babydoll.
I was really upset, because on Sunday, there were police cars and paramedics at a neighbour's, who had died suddenly. What if DH had fallen out of the loft? I wouldn't have been able to get in, because the back door also had the key in the lock.🤬
Feeling unwell and being on a short fuse did not help. 😉

The day got worse, when DD appeared and showed me her burned hand. Her Christmas tree lights were faulty and she had a lucky escape. ⚡ Who on earth sorts Christmas lights, while they are plugged in? The apple does not fall far from the tree. I have failed as a mother!

This afternoon, I am once more being interviewed by medical students. I usually enjoy it, but this time I wish I had declined.
I'm sounding like a right moaning Minny today!!!

Mick, I'm glad you contacted your GP, but get the feeling you didn't fully explain that this episode was not a one off, it has been ongoing.

I'm sorry to hear, so many are struggling and I hope you improve soon.
Susan, I am exhausted just reading about your plans.

I had to stop mid post. My nose was bleeding. A hint for me to sign off!

Have a good day, folks.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Dec-24 07:49:06

BlueSaphire I banished the everyday mugs to the back of the cupboard on Sunday 🤣

It’s Christmas mugs till the decorations come down (probably twelfth night) 🎄🤶🏻

harrigran Tue 03-Dec-24 07:40:22

Good morning from a cold NE, just 1 degree.
Yesterday workmen arrived in the street and started digging everywhere. They knocked on my door and asked to look in my meter cupboard, told me that gas pipes in the house would have to be changed.
During the afternoon thay started digging at the gable end of the house and it felt and sounded as if they were undermining the foundations.
I will not have any heating while they are working as the gas will be turned off.
Hope those with viruses can see some improvement.

BlueSapphire Tue 03-Dec-24 07:39:02

Hello everyone from another dark and damp morning in Northampton, but sunny spells forecast, which is good as my gardener is booked to come and finish tidying the garden before Christmas.
My morning tea is now from one of my Christmas mugs which I have brought forward from the back of the cupboard - everyday ones now banished till Twelfth Night!

Got to yoga yesterday to find our usual room now decorated with fairy lights, hanging decorations and a Christmas tree! It made it quite magical especially at the end when the main lights are switched off for our savasana (relaxation). Went for coffee afterwards at the little cafe round the corner.

A good visit to the optician yesterday afternoon with no need for new glasses; he said that my eyes had hardly changed from last year. Did a bit of shopping in town, and posted my Christmas cards.

Will catch up on housework today while the gardener is here, as I want to get the Christmas tree in tomorrow, then start on the decorations.

Hope all have a pleasant day.

Gingster Tue 03-Dec-24 07:32:05

Good morning all and it’s still dark here in Essex.

Our U3A concert turned out very well with our Chimes sounding beautiful and not one dud note, thank goodness .😉. Lots of singing and laughter - a real tonic .

Today I’ll try to book a dry cut at the hairdressers for this morning. They usually fit me in 🤞. This afternoon is Bridge club . I need to go to the charity shop with books, childrens and adults. They have so many and they might turn me away. What else can I do with them. ? 📚.

Mick you’ll have to be careful with what you eat. Annoying I know but you’ll soon see what upsets you and learn to avoid things like the Chinese meal. As we get older our system changes and we need to take note of triggers. Take care.

Bellasnanna wish I could give you a hug. I feel you need one or two. 🤗🥰. Drag that Christmas tree out and let the little boys help you decorate it. 🎄. I know it will brighten you 🌟.

Susan what a lot of travelling to do . Such a lovely nanna! Enjoy Santa. 🎅.

FGT my husband has gone off salmon too 🙄.

Hope the day is ‘good’ whatever it brings.🙏

Kalu Tue 03-Dec-24 07:29:08

Good morning all. Wind , rain and colder in Glasgow this morning.

I stood outside late last night to look at the stars too Greyduster I could have stood a lot longer but would have froze on the spot it was so cold 🥶
Good to know you have spoken to your GP Mick The stool sample is a good start to your ongoing bowel issues.
I’m truly fed up with this constant pain from sciatica-brachialgia and living on cocodamol 30/500 plus, having to do 7 days of BP readings now until meds show I am on the right dosage. Sorry for the moan…..I’m falling to bits 🤦🏼‍♀️. Physio appointment at 9.00am for a change of exercises.

My sympathies to Grandmabatty, Marydoll and bellasnana with their own health issues to deal with.

Best wishes to all for a good day and a better one for all with worries and struggles.

Redcar Tue 03-Dec-24 07:21:47

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s just getting light and I think it’s colder this morning. I’m hoping to be able to go outside for a walk today, I’m getting “cabin fever” from being indoors all the time. I know I still have to rest to allow my hip to heal, but I’m missing the things I would be doing at home - whoever thought I’d miss ironing? My DD does my washing & dries it, but doesn’t iron anything unless absolutely necessary. Moan over!
Have the best day possible everyone. susan enjoy breakfast with Santa, and the nativity play. bella I hope you feel better today.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Dec-24 07:16:43

Good morning everyone, it’s still dark, unsure of the weather.

Mick pleased you gave contacted your GP, hope you have a better day.

Bellasnana kittylester and DH and anyone who is under the weather I prescribe rest 😘

DS4, his wife, GD (7) and GS (5) are off to Lapland today for 6 days. Visiting Father Christmas and his Worksop. Husky rides, cookie making with Mother Christmas. They didn’t tell the GC till they woke them up at 5am this morning 🎅🏻🤶🏻🎄

We are off to purchase our real Christmas tree thus mirroring, will get one for DD at the same time.

Swimming with The Imp and 9yr old after school, they will be happy it’s a fun swim last lesson of this term.

Enjoy your day 🙋‍♀️
