extremely dangerous weather. List copied from GBnews website

In Wales, the warning covers Bridgend, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Swansea, and Vale of Glamorgan.

Whilst in England, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, Devon, North Somerset, Somerset, and South Gloucestershire have been placed under the red alert.

I watch weather modelling and all the ducks are in a row for a horrendous weather episode. I have been battening down and making ballast all week. I am in amber not red and have moved all potential flying objects out of my garden

Please don`t drive

We had a quiet spell earlier but the wind is back with a vengeance, still amber, sustained and damaging. I think this will continue through the night. Somerset

Many local properties have been without power since early today, could be without until tomorrow evening

Hope the power is back soon casdon. It’s been my big fear.

In the red zone here, it sounded as if an express train was about to run over us. Really frightening at times. Luckily no building damage. Sadly we have lost a huge ceanothus, over 10 feet tall. Positioned to the side of our home it took the full force of the wind and was bent almost to the floor, half on a shed and blocking side access. Not quite uprooted but not salvageable. It had the potential to seriously damage our conservatory. Once we could stand up out there and it was safe we took the weight from the top cutting branches off with tree loppers. I did the top perched on a step ladder. We now have a mountain of branches. Mr C was able to saw through the trunk to allow us to lay the majority of it flat on the path where it will stay until we have the right equipment to cut it up.

Strangely I quite enjoyed doing it. Although I’m sad to loose something we planted when we moved here it gave a real sense of achievement.

After dropping a bit to allow ceanothus felling the wind has picked up again. Slight change of direction has made it noisier, hitting the corner of our bedroom. Tomorrow should be a little calmer, it will be Monday before it settles I think.

What a day. Stay safe everyone. No risks out there.

Pretty wild here on the northwest coast. I have been keeping an eye on my massive pine tree at the back of the house facing the kitchen 😳
Some roads blocked and sadly a fatality on a dual carriageway not from from here, tree fell on car.

Pic from Llandudno pier, not my town, but shows the power of the wind.

Casdon Sat 07-Dec-24 19:20:28

No power here since midday, I’m using the phone signal as wifi and I’m missing Strictly. We are lucky though, compared with thousands, because we’re warm.

It too bad here on Severnside.

I know it's being insensitive but I'm sorry I had to have a little giggle. Watching BBC News this morning, the First Minister of Wales was outside solemnly advising folk to stay inside and not to travel due to the Red Warning. Behind her were two guys playing golf with no apparent problems.

Very windy here now in Devon. The red alert alarm from government came last night and I thought at first it was a virus beeping and flashing. A cat was swaying and trying to walk along our back fence this morning in the strong gusts of wind. It made it safely tg. Son has been told to go in to his shift on the docks this afternoon but wind is still very strong there. Hoping he keeps safe.

Thinking of all those in the badly affected areas. Hope you're all safe.

Just what I came on here to say.

Hope you're all safe and keeping warm and fed.

Yellow warning here in Gloucester but I woke up to find hen run had gambolled across the lawn and the coup was half on its side. Fortunately the hens hadn't escaped and one had still managed to lay an egg in the nestbox despite being on a steep slope . All sorted and weighted down now

I think I’d lay an egg if my bedroom suddenly gambolled across the lawn and ended up on its side, poor hens!

Very blustery here, but touchwood, no damage done, that I can see anyway..
I had to go and fill the bird table as the blackbird was hopping around getting annoyed
Apparently, parts of my town are without power, just hoping we keep ours..
All local buses are cancelled

Still blowing well here in Dorset, just been outside and it's dry and not too cold. Everything looks to be where it should.
My OH jumped out of his skin when the alarm went off on his phone, I never heard his and I have it turned off on mine.

A few trees down in various places according to FB and lots of things cancelled. Some fence panels in neighbours garden, some were not fixed after the last blow and now there are more. But looking from upstairs there doesn't seem to be much more.

Hoping that everyone whose posted on this thread is safe and well and hasn't had any property damage.

Stay safe.

yggdrasil Sat 07-Dec-24 08:44:54

I'm in the red area. Been awake most of the night. There are several large trees down in this town and a lot of areas with no power.
I have no idea where my bins are but have been ok otherwise as best I can see so far.

Witzend Sat 07-Dec-24 08:37:28

We’re not even near the red zone but there are pretty ferocious winds here this morning.
Dh flew off to Palma last night, back late Monday. Would seem like v good timing, to miss the worst weather.

Just up the road

Casdon Sat 07-Dec-24 08:33:33

It’s very windy here in mid Wales, but I just took my son into town, and I think the biggest problem is going to be flooding, the roads are running like rivers, and we had to divert our route. Keeping my fingers crossed for Crickhowell, and Pontypridd not getting flooded again.

big jet live

on youtube

watching big planes land and take off during the current bad weather. Thats my morning sorted

foxie48 Sat 07-Dec-24 07:57:54

Daughter was in London taking her final (hopefully) vivas. She should be in Amsterdam this morning celebrating her birthday but her flight last night was cancelled. Tbh I can't see it going this morning but at least they upgraded her hotel room and she's with her boyfriend. Our house has French poplars on two boundaries, we've lost six over the years in high winds I have a feeling we might lose some more today!

Allsorts Sat 07-Dec-24 07:45:27

Never known such wind here in Midlands. I can see people going out despite that,

escaped Sat 07-Dec-24 07:44:04

All plans scuppered.
DS and family at Bristol Airport have had 7 am flight cancelled.
DH is in Sussex but can't get back, no trains running.
I'm in Devon, thank goodness I got home last night and didn't stay away.
Not safe to go out.
