twiglet77 There are different rules depending on the type of stroke and how a person is affected. I believe that you have to tell your insurance company, and in many cases you must inform the DVLA as well. There’s plenty of information available , here’s one website that might be helpful :

Thank you all for the good wishes! In the end I didn't drive today. DH did because it was raining and I might have, to quote him, 'panicked '. So I wait to drive another day! To reply to twiglet 77 the hospital consultant told me before I left that I wasn,t to drive for six months.

DD2 was too young to drive when she suffered a stroke, but she learned to drive at 16, passed her test at 17 and is a confident driver in her adapted Mini.

My sister had a “mild” stroke a few weeks ago and our sibling was wondering if there would be a mandatory period before she would be able to drive, is it on a case-by-case assessment, and who decides?

Good news! once you've done you'll wonder why you were worried. My daughter had a stroke 6yrs ago she waited a year for permission to drive and now drives aĺl over. Good luck and do come back to let us know.
