Is there anyting in particular that irritates you with the responses to posts?

I think that what irritates me the most, especially on N & P is that often personal digs are made and sometimes there can be a ‘pile on’ when several posters target one particular poster, often causing them to withdraw. I have withdrawn several times and been PM’d by good posters who say they are leaving the site.
I like a good robust debate as much as anyone and am sure have annoyed sone with my opinions but I try to avoid cheap personal digs.

People who make statements and when asked for the source of their statement, never respond.

Surely they must realise that if they make some (usually) wild and woolly statement, then someone is going to want to know the source in order to assess its reliability.

Sometimes I will just post my opnion in reply to the original poster and if there are lots of pages, I wouldn't always have the time to read every post. I feel this thread could be rather inflammatory, judgemental and pedantic. Lighten up. That is my opinion and I'm not going to argue with anyone. Life is too short. Have a nice evening.

Posts on the TV forum saying that the poster has never seen the programme under discussion, but they know it is beneath them to watch it.

Any post that uses the hysterically laughing emoji to ridicule the poster they are replying to. I feel like saying 'use your words' grin.

Anything that ends with 'end of', 'NOT' or 'rant over'.

People who assume you know why you think as you do (eg 'you think X because you are defending the Labour Party in whatever they do'), rather than accepting that you can think for yourself.

I don't agree that not reading the thread isn't rude - to me it absolutely is. It's not about someone thinking the same as you - it's more about people being ignored as if they hadn't spoken, as Kate1949 suggests.

Otherwise I'm very easy going 😉.

Rudeness. Don’t like it in real life and don’t like it on here. There’s just no need - state your opinion, disagree by all means but dismissing, insulting and ridiculing others is just not on.

MaizieD Sat 07-Dec-24 19:22:50

People who just respond to tell you how boring they think the subject is or who tell you off for being 'precious'. Thinking of the Pedants Anon forum here.. 😁

hollysteers Sat 07-Dec-24 19:20:48

Incredibly long replies, no paragraphs and a life history thrown in. Don’t bother to read them sadly.

The odd difficult, contrary poster who can be counted on to be awkward. These people are very off putting, as if just waiting to contradict everyone.

JamesandJon33 Sat 07-Dec-24 19:20:38

When one or two people have completely taken over a thread and your comment is passed directly over and ignored. Rather rude.

Casdon Sat 07-Dec-24 19:14:56

I agree with you Dinamho. It really does my head in when people post things that are easily proven to be untrue. It takes seconds to check. Sounding off about things you disagree with is fine, it’s what makes N&P threads thrive, but don’t lie to make your point. I’m sure I annoy people though by fact checking, because of course we all arrive at our opinions in different ways.

The other thing I don’t like is when people personally attack another poster. A lot of us have very strong opinions about politics, and argue quite vehemently - but there is a line, and I think saying things about somebody else being stupid, or whatever along those lines, is always wrong.

Isn’t this the season of goodwill btw😂

No. Duplications of opinions are inevitable, I think, and not worth getting irritated about. Why would I mind because someone thinks/thought the same as I did?

I suspect that people who keep offering 'solutions' to problems raised and 'already resolved' are either just adding their tuppenceworth or they have only read the OP. Both of these behaviours are acceptable and not worth getting irritated about in my view.

Perhaps they are only problems for people who spend a lot of time on GN (because they have the time, for example – not a criticism) and read a lot of what is there. If you just plunge in every now and then, it's more remote, so to speak.

That’s just whatI think too.😃

JaneJudge Sat 07-Dec-24 19:09:41

Try to think you are in a real life scenario. It either helps or it doesn’t confused

Calendargirl Sat 07-Dec-24 19:05:54

It irritates me when posters just haven’t read through the responses, but blithely reply willy nilly, often missing the point entirely.

I know there is often a lot to read, but it really annoys me.

Kate1949

When I post a response to something and someone else posts exactly the same thing and others post 'Oh that's a good idea '. I feel like posting 'I'VE JUST SAID THAT' grin
Also when a poster's query has been resolved and they thank everyone but people keep posting solutions.

This (and I know that that response will annoy some people grin )

Kate1949 Sat 07-Dec-24 19:04:24

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 07-Dec-24 19:00:47

Not much. Spelling errors poke me in the eye a bit but I know it’s impolite to point them out. Ditto certain words like hubby, hubster, but I guess that says more about me than them. Posters who push the report button sneakily and never ‘fess up.
Snide personal comments (on N&P) can hurt but hey, it gets a bit heated sometimes and I’ve learnt to withdraw rather than engage…

All of the above and OLD POSTS, OLD POSTS, OLD POSTS being replied to and then when several of us point it out THEY STILL KEEP REPLYING 😡

ferry23 Sat 07-Dec-24 18:51:35

When people don't read the thread or don't read the OP properly.

There's a thread running from someone asking for meal ideas for a visitor who's a rather fussy eater - although the OP took the time to list all the things that the visitor doesn't eat - every other post included one or more of the things on the list. Some actually made recommendations that were all items on the excluded list.

Sorry Kate I think I duplicated a bit of yours but it wasn’t showing when I wrote
Sod’s Law eh

BlueBelle Sat 07-Dec-24 18:46:03

Well what irritates me is when the problem has clearly been solved and still people who can’t be arxxx to read other peoples post keep posting solutions 😬

1. Those people who haven't checked their facts and so come up with some rather silly opinions

2. Those people who, despite the facts being presented, still come up with the aforementioned opinions.

I suppose that I am irritated by some of the posters on the N & P forum. Overall I find that the posters are usually kind and helpful on the other topics that I read.
