How much is your car insurance?

Weve been with Direct Line for years but increased insurance quite a bit so shopped around and now with LV at half cost of Direct Line. I hate shopping around though!

gentleshores we were with Churchill but are now with theAA. DH never uses comparison sites but does his own research and haggles a little. Similarly with home insurance.

Yes gentleshores you really need to shop around. Use a comparison website, or try Direct Line’s own website.

That's worth knowing, thanks. Who did you change to? In the past I switched from More Than to Churchill as it was about half the price, but I really regretted it when my car got run into on a garage forecourt as More Than would have been much better to deal with. Churchill were terrible and rote my car off - carted it up to scotland to a scrap yard! I wanted it back and to get it repaired and had to get an independent assessor by which time it was too late as it had been sat in the scrapyard too long.

So I'm cautious about changing insurers - but thought there might be a good one that was cheaper.

I usually insure my car through a comparison website and this year paid £128.86 with the AA and will get a £20 reward to spend at Sainsburys. I only have a basic fully comp insurance, an 08 Fiesta and low mileage. My husband is also on the insurance (we are separated) which brings the price down and I am on his for the same reason.

We are with the AA too.

Gone up 20% on last year. I stay with the AA, they have very good customer support as the broker if you run into problems with the named insurer.

Just paid it £284 same as last year with Saga. I have a 3 year deal so it will be the same again next year. I have a Kia 1800 cc. I think I have 10 years no claims as mine lapsed for a time.

I’ve gone from a 3 litre Jaguar (Grannymobile) to a 1500cc Mini - but the insurance premium has remained roughly the same -around £450. I’m 73, with 25+ years NCB, drive 12K a year, but the Mini is convertible and counts as a sports car.

Mine was about the same as yours, gentleshores - up over a hundred pounds from last year, and that was the most reasonable I could find. I drive a 22 plate four door 1500 Mini Cooper and do a very low mileage, with well over nine years no claims. If I’m still driving next year I might change it for something with a smaller engine.
Visgirl I was offered both a friends and family discount and an extra 10% for investing with Aviva, and they still came out with a higher quote than anyone else I contacted.

£115.32 down from £193 the year before. 1.2 litre hatchback. 9+ years no claim, no other drivers, low annual mileage, garaged.

£240.55 for a 1 litre Corsa. That was reduced by £40 from the previous year.

Mine is £283.64 fully comp with the AA.

I have 9 years no claims and my partner is on my policy. I said I do max 8000 miles a year (which is true), which brought the price down.

It's a very old, very little car!!

I changed this year because AXA wanted nearly double that amount and said the car was worth nothing if I wrote it off. At least the AA reckons it's worth £1500.

I found the policy on one of the online compare the market sites (can't remember which one).

So by the sound of it, ours is too expensive! And yes there is a second names driver on it (OH).

I have an 8 year old medium size family car. I have 12+ years no claims and I pay £36 a month with Allianz. I have my son and son in law on my insurance to occasionally lend them my car if their’s is off the road. I shop around every year and never allow it to auto renew . I find they are usually open to negotiation and I always contact the company on receipt of the renewal notice.

Mine came through last month about 20%higher than last year's. Max No Claims, DH is a named driver but it's my insurance.
I did an on line search and got it for around £360 exactly the same as my previous one which was with Direct line. I am now with Aviva, not some obscure company. I pay full amount in one go. I'm not 100% sure but having a named 2nd driver used to drop the price?

I have a 1.0 litre Aygo X - 23 plate. 15 years No Claims. My annual cost is £486 but I pay monthly. No other drivers. I'm with Admiral.
