Cost of a stamp

Book on line and your postie to come and collect what you want to post, even cards. Don't even need to print your own label. It's cheaper than buying a stamp and no annoying trip to the Post Office.

Received DD’s card from Australia today, it cost her $3 Australian dollars to send.

About £1.50.

Far too expensive! I’ve only posted seven this year and given the rest out.

That sounds like a great idea. How do you ensure that they are genuine from Ebay? I've heard of fakes being found by Royal Mail.

I can see and read all these comments but isn’t it sad that no one seems to think £2.65 is a cheap way to remember a friend or family that you have not seen all year? I still send plenty to those I don’t see regularly or at all. Many don’t have online support. And how lovely to have that sound of the plop of letters through the door

I send more cards[which includes bereavement cards] in general than I used to.
Even the people I used to think would not want them, do I find.

Not sure you can go much wrong with sending something. In my opinion.
And in the great scheme of things, the extra cost is minimal.

i have not sent Xmas cards for several years and give donations to charity instead - probably higher than the postage but it seems stupid to send a card which will ultimately end up in a bin.

In February I sent my friend of 17 years (we met on holiday) a birthday card "to a special friend" and I put a Christmas card in, I wrote on the envelope "sorry, killing 2 birds with 1 stone". My friend rang me and was very very upset and said that she couldnt have been much of a special friend if I wasnt prepared to post the birthday card then post the Christmas card at Christmas. I suggested she put the card somewhere safe and get it out at Christmas. She was verbally very very nasty and said she had thrown the card in the bin, I said it doesnt sound like you want to talk to me right now and I put the phone down. I dont want to be spending lots of money on postage stamps and it is because of the bad service that is provided but not just that, it is also because of how all those post office staff were treated over the Horizon scandal too. My friend is very well off so any amount of stamps are not a problem to her. Unfortunately we havent spoken since and I think it is rather sad it has come to this. Merry Christmas everyone.

I think they simply don't want us to send cards any more. I have this year, but the cost was absoutely extortionate.

Drastically cut down. Sent an anniversary card and congratulations card both 1st class on Monday, never arrived until Friday. Serious rip off. Both missed the dates.

For years I have used moonpig for my cards.
My friends have always like receiving them. My DGC are thrilled when I manage to fit a photo of their face into a card depicting a sport they like participating in.
That being said, this year’s English Christmas cards are only being sent from this UK spot, French and others will be sent from Paris for the first time.
There is the choice of e-cards on this site but as I don’t like receiving them, I don’t send them.

Forty by second class post. About the same as last year, because although a few friends have died, their relicts live on!

It’s $1.65 to post international from USA to Uk & you can buy Forever stamps so never go out of date. I have posted my cards via relatives in US to uk in previous years as it’s cheaper . It’s bloody ridiculous & I’ve given up posting any Christmas cards ! ~Hallmark must just love The Post Office !

Parcels I always send Royal Mail 48 as its tracked and usually there in 2-3 days. On the Royal mail website its £3.39 up to 2kgs for small parcel and you print the label. Hermes or Evri is cheaper but I prefer Royal Mail

I've posted about 20 but put quite a few together in large envelopes as I know family members will see their DAC and DGC over Xmas. Eg Daughter's card, DGC card, 3 friends cards all in one envelope for £2.70. Same with BIL, and 2 nieces cards posted together. Saved quite a bit on post doing this.

Yes, we have cut down this year as well. We have made the decision that next year we will only post to elderly relatives who love to receive post. We sent a message with this years cards saying that all monies we usually spend on cards and postage will go to charity. We feel happier knowing a charity will benefit rather than lining the pockets of Royal mail.
We've set up a special email account and asked all those who are happy to get e cards to email us.

I bought 30 2nd class, 10 1st and 3 stamps for EU - £50.40The cards (40) from Cancer research cost £11.36! Astonishing!

Cost of a stamp? What a great idea to have a 50p stamp for Christmas cards. However a friend put 4 cards to our family in one large envelope addressed to me!

I googled 123 cards and saw that Shelter also do ecards. I shall be using them for my overseas friends and I've sent 2nd class cards to people here. I love getting cards and really appreciate getting them myself

Reduced the number for posting this year but still had 9 to send abroad. After handing over (in the village PO) one to Canada and then finding out PO aren't accepting mail for Canada I wonder what will happen to that particular one! Had around 40 to post elsewhere mainly because have lived in so many different places, cut them down as much as possible. As for the cost of mailing a parcel, wow!

I did hospital car for over 10 years and made many friends with people over this time. I have lots of people who live alone, and some I know do not have any family close so I want to send them a card, so they know they are not forgotten. If I am in their area I would hand deliver but have moved since then so some with be posted , second class of course !!(I am yorkshire, after all!) But something I do for birthdays as well as christmas. Many of my friends are gardeners as am I, so I choose a packet of seeds to put in the card. Doesnt weigh anything - no extra postage. So for non or beginner gardeners I would link it to something relevant to them. e.g. Know you like blue so thought you would enjoy these cornflowers, or a more experienced gardener, thought you might like to try these freesias. These come as a nice surprise and if they then plant them , they have the pleasure of the flowers to enjoy in the summer. I have even in the past been cheeky enough to check how the plants are doing, with local friends , and if they have done well, I have asked if I many have a few plants as I did a stall a couple of times, once for the RNLI and Cancer research. I think that this is very much a Win/Win situation. Pleasure to feel remembered, nice little surprise, and it reminds you of the giver in the summer too.

All the people to whom I send Christmas cards are worth every 85 pence. I hate text , email and whats app messages. I buy 1 second class stamp most weeks, put them in a box. I know it costs the same as buying all at the same time, but it works for me.

Just seen on the news that the Post Office have been fined £10 million(!!) for not delivering post on time. Where does this money go to I wonder? ……

Well, that was my immediate thought.

These Government bodies issue fines but surely the money would be better spent ensuring the services are improved?

Or are the fines just a way of funding Ofcom etc, a self-perpetuating cycle?
