Cost of a stamp

Oldfrill, thank you you made me laugh out aloud!!! I haven't written any yet! I think I sent a cheque last week with a birthday card which I forgot to sign. I've done that before, too!! The envelope was too nice to ruin!

Just seen on the news that the Post Office have been fined £10 million(!!) for not delivering post on time. Where does this money go to I wonder? ……

I have joined 123 Cards. Everyone will be getting cards via email this year.

My virus checker seems to take out the emailed card links for some card companies. I must admit that I don't like emailed cards in any case - sorry Buttonjugs.

I don’t think 85p once a year is too much to keep in touch with old friends. It just seems a lot when you buy the stamps all at once.

We cut right back last year, though I think that postal strikes meant that many other people sent less in any case. I used to send 80 or so, I think that we'll probably be sending half that this year, and I'm happy to deliver locally.

Cost more to send 18 cards by second class post than it did to buy them! Getting crazy but some people do like to get cards so still send them! See what happens next year if someone hasnt pushed the big red button & we are all drifting around the universe! Cheerful aint I? Thats what happens when you have to spend too much money!

Brilliant idea Shinamae for the PO to have some festive goodwill and reduce stamps to 50p for December.

In Denmark we pay nearly twice that, so you won't be surprised to hear that hardly anyone sends cards any longer, especially as cards cost more than the postage on them, unless you buy very cheap ones.

I’ve cut down sending Christmas cards quite a lot this year, and I have to say that quite a lot of the ones I have received are mostly not appealing in any way. I know stamps are now beyond expensive, I would rather send fewer that are attractive. I think we are possibly the last generation to send Christmas cards. Our DD don’t send any, nor do their friends.

People still buy stamps????

Personally, I don’t think second class post is a bad deal, but I never use first class these days.

I’d be wary of buying stamps on eBay etc. Apparently there are a lot of scammers selling fake copies or used stamps.

Apparently, so it was reported today, postage in the UK is cheaper than in other European countries.

Ours will all be going by 2nd class.
Last posting date for 2nd class is 18th December.

Most have gone, apart from a couple which need letters.

JUst looked up cost and I believe she overcharged me!

Posted a card to ex neighbours today. They returned to live in Czech Republic. It cost £3.80, just a standard card.

Have sent out the bare minimum this year with my email in it saying we should do cards online in future.
Not sure if that will go down well with everyone.

I haven’t sent any this year to relatives as they aren’t sending any out either (they told me not to bother) only sending to Fri& will hand deliver- post is a mess, only getting clumps of mail here & there!

Spent £30. Dont regret it.
From what I can tell so far, receiving the same amount of cards as usual.

We use 2nd class for everything.[apart from the abroad postage].
1st or 2nd class, seems to make no difference in when we get letters here, or when others receive them. We live out in the sticks.

I sent a card to the USA and was dreading what the postage would be but although not cheap at £2.50 compared to our first class it didn't seem too bad. I only send any post second class this year, I really don't see the point of first class anymore, everything gets there anyway. I only annoying thing is you can't buy second class stamps anywhere but the post office, which are closing down at a rate of knots.

I am sending far less cards this year and using 2nd class post. Only sending to those who haven't got internet. I will email those who have internet wishing them Happy Christmas.

Don`t the Post Office stop to think that the more they put up the cost of stamps, the less people are using the service? They`d make more profit by doing a special offer for Christmas! Unfortunately I can`t cut down on postage, all my family are in Yorkshire and my late husband`s in Lancashire, I`m in Lincolnshire.

Where practical, I’ll deliver by hand. However, due to the increased cost of postage I’ve reduced the number of cards posted, as have so many of our friends. We always send WhatsApp messages to one another. 🎄🎄🎄
