One in five talks

I think these might have been the leaflets we were given but I have no recollection . I am not even sure if we were supposed to tell the other four people straight away or in the event of a nuclear attack (a bit late!) but anyway I told my parents so that was two!

I remember that leaflet and the book, or animation When the Wind Blows by Raymond Briggs.

we were in school at the time of the cuban missile crisis.. we were told to hide under our desks!!

I think that leaflet was issued much later Jax (maybe the early 80's). I remember the crisis vividly even though I was only 6 years old at the time. For years afterwards whenever I heard thunder or saw a flash of lightening, I was sure it was "the bomb". I also have a vague recollection of being told to crouch under our desks in school as part of a nuclear drill. I'm sure I didn't dream that. To be honest the whole thing has lingered in the recesses of my mind ever since.

I don't remember the talks but I am sure we had a pamplet through the door. We had a cellar and I planned how we could block the vent holes, etc and live down there. Even with adequate food and water I think we would have frozen to death as it was very cold down there. The threat seemed very realistic at the time.

I remember instructions to hide in a room without windows, to apply whitewash to all windows, and to have a stock of tinned food in. All useless in the event of an attack I suspect!
