14 years of the Tories underfunding the NHS has led to long waiting lists

I suggest you see if you can see another GP at your practice Fergy. Poor treatment at the hands of your GP shouldn't necessarily be blamed on under funding under the Tories.

Mr. S. presented with prostate problems 18 years ago and received excellent treatment because our GP was diligent, as was the specialist who treated him.

I suggest you ask to see another GP at the same practice. Medication is available which should help alleviate the problem, if only in the short term.

Fergy what a distressing situation for you.
You can have catheters that are single use, rather than permanent.
Using one of those you could completely empty your bladder in one go.
Would that help?

I always understood that reduced flow to that extent was considered serious enough to need prompt investigation.

Keep on, persevere, this needs investigation.

It may be nothing but you need to be seen to establish exactly what is going on.

Even opting to go privately can be a slow process.

Please don't freak that I'm recommending Prostate Cancer UK but they also advise about benign prostate enlargement. They can certainly advise about treatment options. If you are in England and can travel you may get an appointment sooner outwith your NHS area.

Is this a post code lottery?
I have a relative who was taken ill whilst on holiday abroad in June this year, was hospitalised for 2 days and returned to the midlands. On the 2 week pathway he was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and had a catheter fitted which he found easy to live with.
Was advised that the waiting list for laser treatment was 22 weeks, but had a cancellation at 24 hours notice just 12 weeks later.

You really need to seek a second opinion Fergy.

Not a man and not a prostrate story but nearly two years ago I was seen by a gp for what seemed a minor problem however she wasn’t happy and I went on the 2 week pathway I was seen, found to have pre cancerous cells, which needed removing and within 6 weeks I was operated on, they found I had some
stage 1 cancer cells, so had a second op within two more weeks and now nearly two years on and after 6 check ups I have been free since she operated
I CANNOT fault the NHS I couldn’t have had better treatment privately
I know not everyone has such wonderful treatment I can only speak for myself !
I would gently keep on their backs Fergie and do what they think is the right move be it a catheter or not
