"Hello everyone,
I’ve been feeling lonely lately, and I know I can’t be the only one. I thought it might be nice to create a space where we can share, chat, and support each other. Whether you’re feeling down or just want a friendly chat, you’re welcome here."

Good morning all, I am so glad I subscribed to this thread, and we can keep it going..

Taichinan, I loved reading your post.. I am in Swindon, the opposite side to you of the British Isles I am grinning away here at the contact with you and with you all.. I don`t sleep so good and woke ,late for me this morning after a short doze in which I had a rather depressing dream,, so . here I am so thankful for the link to come here..

oh now may I ask for the link for the sad lampt Taichinan? I have looked for one for years, and I think this is perhaps one of the down sides to living alone,, someone to chat with , compare ideas with, particularly now for a Sad Lamp. I put small Christmas lights on, and lights on,, well it must be a shorter daylight time up there, and it is a fight down here, so many very low, dark, grey clouds, I am convinced the grey clouds don`t help my mood..

and snowdrops,, they are blooming up there? wonderful I love the first snowdrops, I haven`t seen any here yet, and I planted a small pot just outside my back door!

I used to have a small goldfish pond, but it was getting too much for me,, how wonderful, thank you for that reminder Taichinan

thank you all for your uplifting stories..

I need uplifting today. Rubbish sleep lately. It’s bitter cold and can’t afford the heating on all day. I’m back to bed and depression is threatening. Must get moving and do some crafts. I’m so lonely and wonder what the point of it all is. Take care and stay safe.

polnan Sat 18-Jan-25 10:35:24

oh whywhywhy... I go to a small, very small craft club once a week at our local church, but I admit I am no craft person, but I keep trying... it seems to help some of my friends there, we are all , mostly, of a similar age, and lifestyles,

wondering , if it is allowed here, if it would help any for anyone to PM ?

Truffle43 Sat 18-Jan-25 14:37:28

Polnan
That sounds like a good idea as some people may need a little more chat than this thread can give.
Whywhywhy can you afford an oil filled radiator? I ask as this is cheaper than running the heating and you can then keep 1 room warm and cosy. I use mine a lot. Thinking of you

Lovely to read everyone’s posts. I’m hoping Celieanne has found a new Care company? I’m pleased that LoveOc’s goldfish have survived. I want to know about Polnan’s cat and am sorry Mandymoo’s cat is no more. We had a cat and then rabbits when DS was small. Then when adult, he and partner had house rabbits in their flat for a while and so I had grandrabbits as no DGC. 🐰🐰😊
Taichinan - I am on the south coast so you are miles away in the frozen north. Am watching Traitors so you probably live in a castle like that!
Keep safe everyone.

Well today I applied to become a volunteer it is making tea and chatting to people. I’m sure I will love that.
Eek they got straight back to me and I will pop in and meet them next week. Fingers crossed people that I get to try this as I really need to get out and meet people before I become a recluse.

Taichinan Sun 19-Jan-25 00:55:12

Indiebee the north isn't so very frozen! At least not on the east coast about an hour south of Aberdeen. We haven't had any of the bad weather everywhere else has had - I think the lowest we got was -2°C. And this week we have had beautiful Spring-like days with temp up to 11°, great clumps of snowdrops are in bloom and the daffodils have poked their little noses through. Even the goldfish have popped up to be fed! And forget about the castle!!

Taichinan Sun 19-Jan-25 00:56:23

Well done Truffle! I'm sure you'll be perfect

Taichinan Sun 19-Jan-25 01:07:37

Polnan I got my SAD lamp off Amazon - there are lots to choose from. I use mine for an hour each morning over a leisurely breakfast and I swear it works!

whywhywhy Sun 19-Jan-25 04:10:49

I need to get a sad lamp. Also need to get out more because I’m definitely needing someone to talk to. I’m going barmy.

Thank you I am determined to to get out and meet people before I become a recluse.Illness has stopped me for the last few years but I have learned how to manage it and I want my life back. I contacted an old friend last week and met for a coffee it was so nice just to do something once again. Now I will volunteer and hopefully get a social life of sorts. I will keep you all posted on how things go with the hope it will inspire others to try something new to get them out of the house.

Good for you. Can you give me some tips please. I feel like I have slipped into a slippy slope.

whywhywhy I have no idea where you live but could you set up a coffee meetup with other local GNs?

I did that until the shop where we met decided to close and Covid reared its ugly head. I have made some really good friends.

I am happy to help.

Good evening everyone hasn’t today been a lot nicer. I have managed to spot 2 red squirrels while out for a walk and they made me smile. Just think it will soon be spring and lighter nights will be on the way. I am thinking about easy fruit to plant in tubs and am looking things up via the internet, where would we be without it I find it's handy as before i would have needed a book.Is anyone else thinking about nice things? Plans for the garden or walks they may take as it gets warmer.

Truffle 43,, and everyone.. Good morning, here in Swindon I awaken to a lighter sky! It has been so very grey, and gloomy so, being a Christian, well I try, I sing, happy songs as I awaken.

coffee now with my cat..

whywhywhy Tue 21-Jan-25 08:13:34

I need to get a cat. I’ve arranged to meet a friend on 30th January. Something to look forward to. I’m so down in the dumps and these dark days don’t help. Getting on with some shopping today.

polnan Tue 21-Jan-25 08:40:14

whywhywhy I am in Swindon, had so many dark, grey days in the skies....this morning I awaken to a clear sky.. it helps so much

I have been there,, I say "been" cos I am determined to be responsible for my own happiness. LOL can you tell I read and listen to a lot on the web! I don`t make friends easily, and I am of an age that well, I have few.. I go to the local church,, but still .... so I am getting myself to go out on my own, another thing I am not good at.. I am fortunate that despite my age (in years) and my car , also , despite its age in years! so , for me, it is so good to come here and find that in fact I am not alone, not alone in what is going on in my life,, and mentally? is that the correct word, spiritually, I am not alone.

Good afternoon Polnan and everyone else in this thread. I posted this once before but thought it might be worth giving everyone a reminder that there is stuff out there. You just need to be brave enough to take the first step. I know easier said than done….
I met a lady on the bus the other day she was beaming from ear to ear. Someone told her about a local tea and chat group and went for the first time. She was made so welcome bought a couple of raffle tickets and won a scarf. Honestly she was thrilled with the interaction and had never heard of this before.
These weekly socials are held in lounges of supported housing schemes and are open to all. They offer a variety of activities and entertainment. Might be worth checking in your local areas to see if there is one local you may want to attend. Polnan I am glad you have your church.

Truffle43 - Two red squirrels! How marvellous, I have never seen one. Are you in Scotland?

There are red squirrels on Brownsea Island in Dorset.

Beechnut Tue 21-Jan-25 16:36:18

I’ve seen black squirrels in Niagara.

Indiebee Tue 21-Jan-25 16:51:43

Beechnut - black ones, how lovely! Now that you remind me, I think I might have once read about the red ones on Brownsea. I went there over 30 years ago - it was full of peacocks and I still have some of the feathers I picked up (not out!) in a vase along with some dried honesty and poppy seed heads.

Truffle43 Tue 21-Jan-25 23:28:24

There are lots of red squirrels where we are in the south uk. Black squirrels I have not heard of before. Google here I come I bet they are stunning.

Truffle43 Tue 21-Jan-25 23:37:05

I have just looked at google and there are lots of black squirrels in the UK. First found in Woburn Bedfordshire. I learned something new today Beechnut thank you.
