Morning from a still dark but dry S E Essex.

It is one of our GS’s 15th birthday today, it was snowing when he was born and it settled for a couple of days ❄️❄️❄️

Off to visit Santa after school pick-up with DD, The Imp and 9yr old.

Gym first thing and I might attack the Everest pile of ironing.🎄🤶🏻🎅🏻

Morning Mick, morning All. Very fine rain in the wind dampening our corner of Somerset. Hoping for better things later.

Excellent time with our not so Littlest and his minders yesterday. The requested buffet vanished. Today we’re off over the bridge to take our friend for a festive meal and then help her with a grocery shop. She’s been unwell and currently advised not to drive. It’s all unusually active here!

What a kind gesture grandmatty. A new chapter grandmab. Our gammon goes in the slow cooker these days, as advised by our lovely daughter in law. Pleased you feel able to do more ash.

Must dash. Need to allow for inevitable traffic delays.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire.

Our cleaner should be coming this morning for her final stint before the new year.

I have my usual Waitrose trip where, as well as groceries I will pick up some click and collect parcels. There is more present wrapping to do. OH, I hope, will hand deliver the local Christmas cards.

I have a Pavlova to make for a small lunch thing I’m going to tomorrow. They may look beautiful and decorative but they’re so easy to make!

My new food processor hasn’t arrived yetsad We have been chasing up the shop and the courier. The courier has had it since last Tuesday but informed me on Wednesday that there was a delay. Mmmm.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire but it’s going to be a fairly mild, dry day. Yesterday I did a pile of ironing, listening to a playlist of favourite carols. In the afternoon, I had a long chat with DS who is still struggling with a chest infection. Today I have to get the last few cards, which needed letters, into the post, order some stuff from the local baker, and clean out the fridge in the garage.
Have the best day you can folks.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 16-Dec-24 07:15:23

Ah. Every day a school day here on GN!
Thanks for the explanation Ash.

Bellasnana Mon 16-Dec-24 07:14:02

Good morning from a rather damp Malta where it has rained overnight and more is forecast along with a high of 15°C and a low of 8°C. I might actually wear a jumper at last.,😄

Grandmabatty I hope your wee man settles at nursery. Our little duo have come on such a lot since they started. I’ll be getting them back in February though as they will no longer be eligible for free childcare and it’s just too expensive to send two of them.

They will start school next September at the school where their mum teaches so it will be very convenient for her to take them with her.

I slept late today, half a tranquilliser has knocked me out and I feel very dopey. No idea what is in store today. You all sound so busy with Christmassy things which I used to enjoy doing, but I just can’t be bothered with any of it any more. The sooner it’s over the better!

Have a good day all.☀️

Grandmabatty 😁 you’ll end up wondering how you ‘ever found the time’!

Ash sorry to be dim but what’s ‘D.V’?

Not dim at all, FGT2!

It stands for Deo Volente, Latin for God willing.
(Other medical meanings are available!)

Ashcombe Mon 16-Dec-24 07:05:46

Grandmabatty

Ash I roast the gammon but I'm thinking boiling it would be better. FGT I know, what will I do on a Monday and Tuesday after drop off and pick up!

Grandmabatty: You’ve given both grandsons the best of starts and created lovely memories which they will recall fondly as they grow up.

Oh Grandmabatty how time flies eh? A new chapter beginning soon for you all. You’ve done the hard yards now you can rest on your laurels a bit in the new year. Less puddle jumping in the days ahead! 🤣

Gingster Mon 16-Dec-24 06:45:35

Good morning and I’m up early as Ive been awake since 4. Couldn't lie in bed any longer, so me and little pooch are having a snuggle on the sofa with a cuppa. It’s calm and peaceful with the Christmas tree lights giving a soft glow.

Yesterday Dd and little DGD came for lunch and we watched The Grinch with Jim Carey. Very funny but a bit long.
We then assembled the gingerbread house with trepidation. I used to have all the 8 grandchildren here doing their own. You can imagine the sticky mess and the frustration of most of them collapsing. (The houses, not the children). This one went well and we took our time. She’ll decorate it on Friday when she’s coming for the day.

Today I’m hopping on the train, just two stops, to meet my old school pal for coffee . So much better than fighting the traffic around here and parking. I think this is the way to go! Let the train take the strain!

Take care all 🌟

Good morning everyone where it’s still dark but dry and mild out here in south Manchester. We’re up early but we have had a full eight hours of sleep. Himself’s just brought our TIB and we are settled, cosy and reading the papers in companionable silence. Lovely. We have no plans today which is nice as every day this week has something on the calendar!

I took a tip from you yesterday hollysteers and asked Alexa to play ‘Carols from Kings’. Glorious!

karmalady Mon 16-Dec-24 06:36:52

Good morning from s somerset, there will be a bit of sun today. Oh good

I was out on the plot again yesterday, making the slippery ground in front of my shed safe. Any reason to be there I suppose, it is lovely to be outside when I am warmly dressed.

More of the same today but this time I am going to prep a very slippery claggy path, making it safe and good to walk on, using ground grids, which will arrive this evening

I cleaned and washed all the downstairs floors in the afternoon and then made a large parkin, which is wrapped up to mature. I will be making big floofy scones later today, I do like a scone with hm jam and cream and they will go into the freezer, to enjoy during the Christmas/new year period

My pullout larder needs a bit more organising so I have ordered some more tall square oxo pop containers. Something positive to do after new year, I need more than knitting

Have a good day

Good morning from a calm and dry Torbay.

Yesterday, we were blessed with another fine day with sunshine. I managed the short walk to church and read the lesson, too. It’s therapeutic to be doing “normal” things, albeit slowly. (the walking, that is, not the reading!!)

Gammon is a great favourite here, Grandmabatty. I wonder how you cook yours. Although I used to roast it, I opt for simmering on the hob for an hour or so now. Such good value and no waste!

How kind of the nurse to buy you a present, grandMattie!

That sounds like a lovely day, Autumncolours!

Likewise, RosesandLilac, only cards done so far here. DH has promised to help with retrieving boxes of decorations which I can’t manage currently. He arrives tomorrow (D.V) 🥰

Keep well and enjoy whatever the day brings. 🦩🎄🎁🎅🏼🦩

Good morning it’s too dark to see, but the forecast is for cloud then sun, let’s hope, the builders are due today and they won’t like the rain.
Housework today, ( that sounds so good as I haven’t been well enough for ages to do any) then I must sort the garage freezer, to free up some room for a Christmas stuff, I did the indoor freezer yesterday, but didn’t create an awful lot of space.

Have a good day everyone, hope the poorly grans feel a bit better today.

BlueSapphire Mon 16-Dec-24 06:34:38

Good morning everyone from a still dark Northampton, but sunny spells forecast later.
Spent a pleasant couple of hours with my friend yesterday, exchanging presents and drinking wine! Admired her new bathroom and she has promised me the name of her plumber, as my usual one is not interested in supplying and fitting a new shower in my en-suite.

Yoga first thing, followed by coffee afterwards then I am out to lunch with a couple of friends; we have been asked to wear Christmas jumpers for yoga!

Then will take it easy the rest of the day. Hope today is good for all.

RosesandLilac Mon 16-Dec-24 06:18:15

Good morning from a hillside in south Glos, where I’m enjoying a coffee in bed.
Not a lot happening here, I’m supposed to be going to a friend’s house for tea but I will see how I feel. I don’t want to pass this cold onto anyone.
A quiet week ahead, I haven’t done anything for Christmas at all. DH has written the Christmas cards and, apart from sending DD’s presents, that’s it 🤷🏼‍♀️
I hope you all have a good day 🌹

Susan56 Mon 16-Dec-24 06:13:21

Good morning from Shropshire.Haven’t looked out yet but the forecast promises sun today.

We have to go to the solicitors and the bank today then a trip to Aldi.

Enjoy the days with dgs2 Grandmabatty.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩

Grandmabatty Mon 16-Dec-24 06:05:39

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and looks damp. GrandMattie what a nice thing for that young nurse to do.
Yesterday I wrapped more presents, went to Aldi for food and visited mum in the afternoon. She was quite sleepy and didn't engage much. I cooked a gammon for dinner but slightly overdid it, so it's on the tough side. I find gammon a hit or a miss.
Today is early childcare day. Dgs2 goes to nursery on Thursday, so this will be my last playgroup drop off and pick up. I wonder how he'll do at nursery. This week sees the last of full days with dgs2. A new stage for us both. No swimming for dgs1 so I'll take them home for quarter to five. I'll have some of the gammon for dinner and then an early night. Take care all

Good morning. Dry and windy here in Yorkshire. Trip into York today then Carol service this evening. Hope the poorly people are feeling better. Take care all.

grandMattie Mon 16-Dec-24 05:53:24

Forgot.
I’m reading Rory Stewart’s book “Politics on the Edge”. It is fairly heavy, but my goodness, it doesn’t half echo “Yes, Minister”. It seems totally true that the Civil Service is completely in charge, with Sir Humphrey obfuscating and passing the buck. Enlightening and nauseating at the same time.

grandMattie Mon 16-Dec-24 05:50:01

Good morning from Bristol. It has rained lightly during the night.
I was extremely touched yesterday. I was walking to my seat in church when I was stopped by a young Indian nurse at the local hospital, member of the congregation. I had befriended her when I moved here. She gave me a Christmas present, bless her. It was totally unexpected and I was moved to tears by her gesture.
I spent a second day doing nothing.
Today, I shall go to Tesco, then in the afternoon, host my upstairs neighbour for us to decorate the mini gingerbread houses. She wants to do her own; I’ll do the others.
I have promised several dozen mince pies for the carol service on Sunday and need get the necessary this morning. I shall use my new food processor to make the pastry.
Have @ good start to the week. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
