And re. Prezzies. I’m taking a taxi, but it’s the packing, etc., which is exercising me!

grandMattie Fri 20-Dec-24 08:01:37

So sad for you, Maw. 🌺

Annypop Fri 20-Dec-24 08:00:17

Good morning from County Durham.
I've had a few groggy days since our return from Edinburgh and felt very unsettled. I think all the rushing about has wiped me out. Maybe not such a good idea to enjoy a break so close to Christmas.
I'm meeting GD1 today, she broke up from school yesterday and fancies a trip into the city. We'll have a wander and no doubt stop for a coffee break. It will be lovely to spend some time with her on her own.
DGS3 will be sleeping over tonight as his parents are out with work colleagues celebrating.
He's a quiet little chap on his own and will happily sit drawing and sketching. He does however rise early, even after a late night!
The rest of the day will be spent finishing off a knitted wreath I am making for my sister. The main part is complete, it's just all those fiddly bits now. Next year I shall make one for my girls as I'm rather pleased with the result.
Sorry to hear your sad news Roses. I have one remaining elder sister who lives only 12 miles away. I hardly see her as she is always so busy with family and church work. Your news makes me realise we really should make more effort, as unlike you we have no excuse.
Sending thanksdear lady.
Wishing all a peaceful day.

Good morning from a very wet and windy Glasgow.

I was planning a walk through the large woodland area of our local park but unless the heavy rain stops, won’t be happening today. Plan B is a visit to the garden centre alongside it for a wander around and coffee.
GD2 has been invited to join her best friend and her parents on a Mediterranean cruise next summer. Both girls are already planning which outfits they will wear. I have asked GD to keep a diary of her travels, something for her to look back on in the future.

Enjoy spending time with your family Brook
It would be better to discuss your weight issues with your doctor Mick rather than weighing yourself daily which won’t give you the answer you need.
Happy birthday to your DH GrannyGravy
Good luck for today’s appointment Grammaretto

Best wishes for a good day and a more settled day for all with ongoing troubles.

Grammaretto Fri 20-Dec-24 07:49:10

So sad Maw 😞
But look forward to reconnecting with the next generation.

I am infinitely grateful that DS who lives in NZ was able to travel here despite covid restrictions when his
dad was dying. A comfort to DH as well as me and the rest.

Redcar Fri 20-Dec-24 07:46:00

Good morning everyone, it’s getting light here in mid Essex. No idea what the weather is doing, but I think the forecast is for a cold day again.
It’s the last day at school for the granddaughters, who have been quite noisy this morning so are obviously excited about it!
I have a physio appointment this morning and I hope DD2 will also take me home to pick up the post and drop a few things off. I wrapped up the fairy wings for her two girls yesterday, but I think I still have to wrap a present for her six year old that she has at her house.
Have the best day possible everyone, may we all find some sunshine!

Grandmabatty Fri 20-Dec-24 07:45:12

Should say trudged not trusted

Grandmabatty Fri 20-Dec-24 07:44:14

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6° and damp. Brook safe journey. RosiesMaw 💐
Yesterday was a catalogue of errors, mostly mine. I left the house in plenty time for my hair appointment but the car key battery had died. It wasn't a surprise - it had been flashing a warning for days. I replaced it then tried to get into the car- nope. The driver's door had frozen shut. I park close to the (horrible) leylandii hedge, so I had to squeeze past and managed to get in the passenger door. Then I had to heave myself over to the driver's seat. I tried the door from the inside. Nope, still frozen. So now I was stuck inside the car going nowhere. The only thing was to run the engine and wait til it had defrosted. I needed to phone the hairdresser by this point to say I was running late. Eventually I got to town and parked, except I couldn't find my purse in my bag. I had visions of leaving it on the kitchen worktop when I was changing the car battery. I trusted back to the car and there it was, on the floor in the back. Haircut achieved, present exchanged and home. In the afternoon I headed to the garden centre in Stirling for afternoon tea except I got the time wrong and was there forty minutes early! We did have a lovely time and I gave everyone a laugh with my adventures. My friend, who paid for the five of us, also gave us all a small box of Highland Chocolatiere chocs too.
Today I'm going nowhere! I intend to wrap the rest of the presents and potter quietly at home. Have a good day all

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 20-Dec-24 07:43:38

Good morning, the first week day that we haven’t had to get up early for builders, thank goodness they have all finished.

Mick please call your team at the JR, even just for a chat about your ongoing problems.that’s what they are there for.

Maw so sorry for your loss💐

Have a good day everyone, hug for those who are sad, unwell or stressed.

ginny Fri 20-Dec-24 07:41:26

Good morning.
Mick please do as others have said and speak to your medical team.
flowers for Rosiesmaw

We visited my brother yesterday. It was good to see him and he was able to have a bit of a chat. He now has a chest infection for too and tired very quickly. It is so sad to see my big burly brother looking so frail.
I shall cheered today by smallest DGS who is coming to play for an hour this morning and I have Christmas jobs to do.
Thought with all who have illness or troubles to deal with and wising ha good day for everyone.

cornergran Fri 20-Dec-24 07:35:55

Morning Mick, morning All from a very wet corner of Somerset.

We settled on our nearest NT property for our venture forth yesterday and were delighted with the decorations created by the volunteers. Lunch in a museum cafe close by followed by three shops on the way home and it was dark before we knew it.

Grocery delivery this morning, some general pottering, a hair cut (I wield clippers!) for Mr C, a whizz to a local supermarket for the items I like to pick myself and the day will be gone.

Please listen mick, unless you’ve been advised by your medical team to weigh daily it’s not such a good idea. Please report what’s happening and take some medical advice on how often to weigh and what steps to take.

That’s sad news maw, distance is such a barrier. Hope travelling is trouble free brook. Can your family help with transporting items grandmattie?

Take care everyone. Hope Friday is kind to us all.

Stilllearning Fri 20-Dec-24 07:28:23

Good morning from our lovely hotel in Pitlochry. DD and I had a perfect day together yesterday and she is just about to head to the pool where I am not joining her😳!
TIB for me to quote FGT, and quiet gratitude for the good things.

Safe journey brook and a happy weekend which I’m sure you’ll have. Glad you had a good day yesterday grandMattie.

My eldest DGD’s 21st birthday today, hopefully her card has arrived and I’ll text in a wee while. I’ll be with her on Christmas Day but I’m saving her gift until her ‘girls’ afternoon tea celebration on the 28th for those of us who have no desire to go to the Disco at the Rugby Club that she is sharing with 3 of her local friends who are all 21 in the week before and the week after Christmas!

Good wishes to all for as peaceful a day as possible.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 20-Dec-24 07:23:27

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It’s still dark.

My food processor should be delivered today - whoopie do! The window is 9.30 am to 1.30 pm. I am having a baking day and hoping to make a lot of Christmas stuff, which I’ll freeze. This includes bread sauce, stuffing, marzipang the cake, sausage rolls. This will probably carry over to tomorrow. On Sunday we’ve booked lunch out.

I’m thinking of those of you with difficulties. Mick - why haven’t you seen your GP?

Have a good day.

Sincere condolences Maw on the loss of your dear sister flowers

GrannyIvy Fri 20-Dec-24 07:13:31

Good morning from Cambridgeshire.
I agree with others on here Mick please get some help regarding your weight loss.

I need to be up early today and get down to our local market. I need holly wreaths for my parents and grandparents graves which I will decorate with fresh flowers. Tomorrow my sister and I will take a trip to deliver the wreaths together and have a lunch out at mum’s favourite garden centre. It is 4 years today since we lost mum but lots of lovely memories.

Brook hope you have a safe trip down to Cambridge and enjoy time with your family. I popped into Cambridge yesterday and it was very quiet everywhere. But then Cambridge parking charges keep lots away and I guess all the students have gone home for 🎄

Have a good day everyone 💐

Grammaretto Fri 20-Dec-24 07:12:23

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Icy underfoot as I left the house in pitch dark.
I'm on the bus with the commuters now on my way to Clydebank for my hospital appointment.
I did a fair bit of reorganisation in the house yesterday after the new ceiling and a major shop.
I won't have everything done by 25th but there'll be food and drink at least.

What a marvel you are gMattie. Supergran medals are available.
🏆 🥇 😃

I agree you shouldn't weigh yourself every day Mick , it's bound to cause anxiety. Speak to your doctor.

Have the best day you can everyone especially those of you in pain or with troubles.

NannyJan53 Fri 20-Dec-24 07:11:22

Good morning from a chilly Black Country.

Pleasant afternoon yesterday at my walking groups Christmas lunch. I had Beef Cheeks, and Ginger Loaf for dessert. Delicious!

Need to pop into town to buy a few items, so I can make a cheesecake and a salted caramel cake next week for Boxing Day at DD's.

Line Dancing Christmas party today. Everyone is taking food to make a buffet. I am taking quiche.

I echo others in here Mick you really must see a Doctor about weight loss.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Greyduster Fri 20-Dec-24 07:11:02

It’s odd you should mention Brio trains, Bellasnana - I have a box in my attic that I decided this morning I would bring down ready for when my nearly three year old great great nephew comes to see me after Christmas. GS had so much fun with them when he was little. Your boys will too, I’m sure.

RosiesMaw2 Fri 20-Dec-24 07:09:25

Good morning from N Bucks where it is pitch dark and cold.
I have woken up with a large cloud over my head as I heard last night that my only (older) sister passed away yesterday morning in her care home in Canada.
I am finding it hard to process losing my last "blood" relation although in many ways I had lost her 6 or 7 years ago when her advancing Alzheimers led to our emails no longer making sense. My brother in law died in 2023 and apart from her middle son, or rather his wife, I hardly know her family who are spread out all over Canada - some I have never met which is another source of regret. DH's health and other factors meant we/I could never really afford to visit them in their remote part of Nova Scotia and then it was too late as she gradually stopped recognising even her family.
I hope to start rebuilding a relationship with them when the son and his wife come to visit next Summer.
Sorry to bring a downer to the thread, and kind thoughts to you all.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 20-Dec-24 07:06:36

Morning all it’s still dark here in S E Essex.

It’s DH’s birthday today, he didn’t want to do anything fussy so we are going to our favourite Indian place this evening.

The 9yr old slept here last night after his school disco, wasn’t planned but The Imp was tired and fretful after his one earlier. DD decided to take him home rather than wait here, so it was easily for 9yr old to stay here as we live next door but one to the school. DD will bring his uniform here before school (it’s their last day today)

I have gym first thing, and will stay for a cup of tea and mince pie after.

Mick speak to your GP!

Enjoy your day 🎄🤶🏻

BlueSapphire Fri 20-Dec-24 07:01:06

Good morning everyone from a still dark and dry Northampton, but rain forecast this afternoon.

Had a lovely coffee morning yesterday with neighbours - there was indeed home-made cake (Mary Berry's Alternative Christmas Cake, which was delicious.) I have now decided to do her light Christmas Cake tray-bake to take to DD's next week.

Waitrose delivery in the afternoon, with a bottle of their lovely sherry which I have ordered for Christmas!

Intending on getting out to the shops early this morning before the afternoon's rain, so I am giving dance classes a miss today. I need the ingredients for the tray-bake!

Egg and Bombay potato curry for dinner tonight, before going to a neighbour's for a Christmas mulled wine evening. Shall not stay late.

Wishing all busy GNs a pleasant day.

Ashcombe Fri 20-Dec-24 06:59:50

Good morning from a chilly Torbay.

Like others have advised here, Mick, I hope you’ll seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Lovely to see old toys being enjoyed by the next generation, Bellasnana.

Glad you’re sounding better, grandMattie.

Safe travels, brook2704.

A poignant time for your niece, Greyduster.

Yesterday we headed out early to Lidl which was a good idea as it wasn’t too busy. They were selling all the seasonal vegetables at eight pence a bag! Yes, unbelievable. We bought two kilograms of potatoes and 500g of sprouts but parsnips and carrots were also available for the crazy price. There seems to be a vegetable price war going on between some supermarkets.

In the evening I thoroughly enjoyed a lesson of nine readings and carols presented by Torquay Boys' Grammar School at our church. Some lovely singing and clear readings. The least audible were the teachers!!

Have a lovely day whatever you've planned. We’re finally managing to put up the decorations which is very late for me. 🦩🎄🎁🎅🏼🦩

Good morning Mick good morning one and all from a crispy cold and dark morning in Cheshire.
Cosy and warm in our little flat. Christmas tree up, porridge on the hob, new trousers hemmed.
A nice walk locally is on the cards weather permitting. Table for two booked this evening at lovely country pub.
Let the festivities commence.
All the best to you all.
PS Mick please do as Georgesgran suggests. See the doctor and tell them everything.
