Oh my goodness Bellasnana, gingerbread heaven.
Found out today, can't take it in
Well, that was a farce.........
Oh my goodness Bellasnana, gingerbread heaven.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and damp outside. Susan the boys are going to Edinburgh this morning for a trip on The Polar Express. I hope H has a lovely time on the Santa train. Whywhywhy my sympathy for your poor night's sleep. GrandMattie another busy day for you yesterday. The pies look tasty. Rosesandlilac I hope you can enjoy your birthday despite your cold.
Yesterday was rather uneventful. I felt out of sorts and napped quite a bit. My medication has been changed and I think it'll take me a while to get used to it. Dd popped in with the boys who were telling me all about their last morning at school and nursery before playing hide and seek. Dgs2 has settled in well to nursery.
Today I'm meeting a friend for breakfast at the local garden centre -our usual Saturday spot. I have an Agatha Christie quiz book for her as a non Christmas present. Later I absolutely must get the rest of the presents wrapped. Meatballs for dinner tonight. Have a good day all
Good morning from Malta where it is 14°C and will drop to 6°C. It seems winter has arrived for us. It was horribly windy last night, I was quite unnerved by it, but it seems to have died down this morning although still blustery.
Happy birthday Roses, sorry you are still feeling poorly.💐
glammagran you are right, Playmobil is made here and we often take the boys to the factory as there are two large play areas, indoors and out, with lots of toys to play with. The old diggers and trucks my son had were all Playmobil and, apart from being rather discoloured, are still good.
DD2 has been very busy making Christmas cookies. She did some for DGD’s teachers as well as countless orders she has. I don’t know how she does it as it’s so time consuming and she has a full time job as practice manager for a busy maxillo-facial surgeon in S.Florida.
Maw so sorry to hear your sad news.💐
Hope you all have as good a day as you can.☀️
Good morning all. A repeat of yesterday’s high winds and rain in Glasgow. Yuck!
At last, winter solstice has arrived. It has been slightly tricky, first winter months to go through alone but I’m sure I will survive, just something I will have to get used to.
I am meeting up with friends for lunch at a local restaurant. Good company to have a long lazy lunch with is such a tonic.
A happy memory for you GM and a good idea to listen to your body when deciding whether to stay or not after the carol singing.
My condolences Maw
Happy birthday Roses and many happy returns of the day.
I’m sure H will enjoy every minute on the Santa train Susan
Hoping you have a day of more energy and less pain Marydoll
My thoughts are with all who are suffering, even more so at this time of year.
Good morning from s somerset, a mixed bag of weather today
Pantglas, you are a cheerful soul. thank you for the year-round positivity
I think I will be sorting seeds and the gardening stuff, lodging in my garage. Moving logs to make wall space for new hanging brackets and rails. It is time to hit the ground running, it will be fine if I dress warmly. What to lose and what to keep?
Have a good day
Raining here, I had hoped for a sunny day.
Popped back to wish Roses a very happy birthday.
Good morning from a dark Black Country where I am not sure what the weather is doing as I haven't opened the curtains yet.
Went into Aldi at 9am yesterday, the sprouts, carrots, parsnips, broccoli were all only 8p! Is obviously a 'get you in' loss leader.
Pleasant few hours at the Line Dancing Christmas party, loads of food and dancing. My friend and I went for a coffee afterwards.
Today I am making meatballs to take to DD tomorrow for her family to eat, whilst I take DD out to lunch for her birthday. Will make mince pies whilst the oven is on.
Happy birthday Roses
Wishing you all the best day possible.
Good morning everyone from DD1s in Cambridge where it’s still dark but looks dry
A very Happy Birthday Roses hope you’re feeling much better soon and enjoy your birthday as much as you can 🎂💐🥂
I arrived here yesterday mid afternoon after an easy journey with everything on time. We spent a lovely family evening together and watched a Christmas film on their big screen. Not sure about the plans for today, I think a bit of last minute shopping and probably a walk somewhere - they’re big fans of the outdoors here
I hope your DD gets her scan soon glammagran and gets started on some treatment soon
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning Mick and all you early risers. Some of you are so busy I feel exhausted just reading your posts.
Very 🎂 happy birthday RosesandLilac, have a lovely day in spite of your nasty cold.
Condolences Maw, I know how much support from this thread meant to me when I lost my sister three years ago. Hope it helps you too.
Thanks for the solstice reminder Pantglas. Looking forward to longer days on the journey back to springtime.
Three more sleeps 🎄woohoo.
Good morning from a dark, windy Durham. It feels like zero outside. Last gifts wrapped yesterday. Must get some bananas, as both DDs and DGSs are coming this afternoon. I predict Bedlam.
My unwell friend had a bit of good news yesterday, but still to have more tests to explain her drastic weight loss.
🎂 rosesandlilac
💐Rosiesmaw (and so far away).
Best wishes to all. X
Good morning from Cornwall where I'm savouring a fresh breeze wafting across my bed from my window which is open a few inches. The crows in the town centre trees are yapping away.
Made dozens of gingerbread men last evening for my eldest grandson and was forced to eat the few that wouldn't fit in his Christmas box. A midnight feast. Yum. 😁
Ooh, there goes the Tesco delivery juggernaut having just filled the shelves with sprouts, no doubt. Biffa will be next with its flashing, bottle-crashing beast of a lorry.
Today my granddaughter is coming round and she'll help me hide her brother's treasure hunt presents for the annual (chaotic) event tomorrow. 😍
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire and very chilly. Not sure what it’s going to do today weather wise but there is some rain in the forecast at some point. Yesterday was busy indoors clearing piles of books and papers, my printer and laptop out of the dining room and finding some other place to stash them. When DH was here we ran a tidy ship. Tidiness was in his military DNA. You never know how much ~~junk~~ stuff you have until you have to find space for it! I wrapped the last of the presents and put them round the tree in the conservatory. DS rang for a chat. He still has his chest infection and sounds terrible but insists he will be here on Boxing Day so we will see. I have a small food shop to do this morning and then the day is “at leisure”.
Happy Birthday, Roses - have a good one!🎂💐
Have the best day you can folks.
Happy Birthday, Roses. We’re both just recovering from that flu bug after two weeks. Christmas is courtesy of Sainsbury’s and Amazon this year. Hopefully our Christmas tree will go up today. Quiet time this year as DD1 is working and DD2 and family flew off to the sun. Just brother in law and his wife with us for Christmas Day. ( and the granddogs of course).
High winds forecast today here.
Hope all with health problems and sadness get some relief.
Good morning on a dull Saturday.
So sorry to hear about your sister RosiesMaw and just before Christmas too. Your sister, Harrigran has really been in the wars. Do your boys have lots of playmobil Bellasnana as it’s made in Malta I believe Sylvanian families too. My GC’s still play with DD2’s old SF collection which include a brass bed and just seem to be far better made 30 years ago. I have added to them as they didn’t all last that long.
Another who thinks Mick needs to see his GP as a matter of urgency but I know I’m just whistling in the wind.
An update on DD2. Yesterday, she got to see a private GP through her work health insurance and he said she definitely needed an MRI scan. The problem is that he can’t refer her for one, that still has to be done through her GP practice. We will persue this after Christmas. The head of the practice which is ours too, is a very unpleasant individual. Thank you for your kind wishes.
DGD1 was 19 yesterday. DGS1 her cousin was 14 on Tuesday. We will see them both on the 28th December.
Have as leisurely a day as can be managed in the runup to Christmas everyone.
Good morning from a dry NE where it is very windy.
DD arrived in UK yesterday without problem, only 30 minutes delay on Eurostar.
My sister had an operation on her injured knee eventually yesterday.
I can't see her being discharged before Christmas, she also has to wear the neck brace for 13 weeks so would struggle at home.
We are going out for a family lunch, it was DS's birthday three days ago and would have been DH's yesterday.
Condolences to Rosiesmaw 💐
Happy birthday, RosesandLilac and I hope you feel better soon. 🤒
Good morning from a breezy, mild Torbay.
Pantglas2: I think I might also qualify for that certificate! My unscheduled hospital stay earlier this month and subsequent immobility have delayed Christmas decorations being in place. The boxes are out, awaiting my attention today.
Yesterday, DH had a check up with my dentist to discover he needs a lot of treatment to correct a history of poor dental work going back years! This dentist is a practitioner we know and trust as we've shared the stage with him in the past. 2025 will be the year of the teeth for olddudders!
I admire your energy and baking skills, grandMattie and I hope you enjoy the Carol Service. We attended a Christmas concert at our theatre, given by the Dartmouth Naval College band last night which was quite fun.
DGD (12) is performing in Aladdin in Hanley at the moment. It’s a professional show for which local dancers can audition. She performed with the same company last year and we plan to watch a show after Christmas.
Amidst the jollity, thoughts are with those feeling sad especially RosiesMaw2 on her recent loss. 💐
🦩🎄🎁🎅🏼🦩
Good morning, I haven’t looked yet to see what the weather’s like here in south Glos.
It’s my birthday today, I always felt slightly cheated being born on the shortest day, it was as if I missed out on something 🙄
I still have this horrible flu bug so I won’t be doing anything much apart from getting dressed for the first time in five days!
Take care everyone 🌹
Good morning from Shropshire.Still dark and damp but some sunshine forecast later.
We collected the children from school yesterday then popped to Sainsburys for bread and milk.We ended up doing most of the Christmas food shop.DD does most shopping online so the children enjoyed the novelty of visiting a supermarket.
DD’s are meeting at the theatre today with DGS1 and DGD.When they booked the tickets a year ago H wasn’t a fan of the theatre so we were booked in to look after him.We have booked to take him on the Santa train instead🎅🏼🚂
Thinking of all with struggles and those who find this time of year difficult💐
Have the best day you can everyone🦩
Oh, Pant, thank you for reminding me of the solstice - longer days, more light. Yippee 🙌
Good morning from Bristol. Not looked out…
I had a busy morning yesterday, planning and preparing for my baking as for battle. This is the first year I have made mince pies since Philip died over 4 years ago. I’d make and cut out the pastry, DH would put them in cases and fill with mincemeat, and whoever was free would top with almond crumble . A good production line…
Didn’t manage that but did make the necessary 6 dozen + one extra dozen with the remaining pastry. I gave two of my neighbours some. The mince pies were collected in the late afternoon.
You will be pleased to learn that I have refused to help serve them with mulled wine tomorrow evening unless there was a dire need of help. I might not even stay on after the 9 lessons and carols service!
The afternoon was quiet, had a nap and reheated one of my homemade frozen meals for dinner.
Today, I have church flowers to arrange (a doddle, even without using oasis), coffee and chat, then nothing. Yippee.
I hope your weekend and Christmas preparations are going well, without a sense of being overwhelmed. Be happy.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🎄🌟
Ps photos are before and after…
Happy winter solstice everyone 🤗 oh how lovely to think of lighter evenings to come!
I’m about to enjoy my chamberpot ☕️ before putting bins out and trotting to the corner shop for a 🗞️ with the Christmas TV guide - I love rubbishy films at this time of year!
Sorry to read of Rosiesmaw loss 💐 and hugs for all with unwell loved ones at the moment x
The last batch of mince pies to be made this afternoon, mainly for gifts but don’t tell MrPG and some sausage rolls to put a smile back on his face😋.
My tree will also be in situ for this evening- I hope I get a certificate 📜 (stiff git 😂 Miss Marydoll…) for being Last in Class this year!
A busy weekend ahead for us all I’m sure - may everything be as you wish it 🤞
Good morning. Awake half the night but that’s nothing unusual for me. I’m looking forward to my son getting here on Monday for Christmas. Last bits to get today. Hubby being full of bah humbug. That’s getting me down. Making mince pies and quiche today. Have a safe and healthy day everyone.
Good morning, I have an early shopping delivery this morning, but I really didn’t need to wake up at 4am.
Lots of cooking today, things will be put into the fridge and cooked on Monday when MzOops and the GCs arrive for Christmas. Out all day tomorrow visiting MrOops sister who lost her husband recently.
Have a good day everyone.
