Thinking if all the grans and grandads alone at christmas

Merry Christmas every one

I have a cousin locally who would have been alone. Her husband died recently, yet they always spent every Christmas away from the world eating a sandwich on the moor anyway. We have badgered her to join us, I hope she isn't doing so just to please. I know she will come for a quick hour or so with a smile on her face, but she will leave soon after the meal, and we respect that decision.

It would be a shame to take all the joy and colour out of life.just because not everyone can join in.

I do not say that to be unkind or regardless of those who will be alone or sad.

The surgeons turned my sister's life support off on Easter Sunday and took her down to theatre to remove the organs that were being transplanted. As catholics we all went to church, where the service was all about resurrection and life.

None of us wanted, or would have wanted our grief to spoil anyone elses Easter and I feel the same about Christmas. Of course one thinks of those who are alone and offers a hand of friendship if one can, but we should not insist that should hang over everyone elses celebrations like a cloud.

I agree. I find Christmas a bit overloaded with sentiment. I find it the saddest time of the year to keep well hidden and I wish it wasn’t so full on and pressured..it makes me feel a failure even saying that!
I wish joy and strength to those alone in every sense.

I try to think of it as a normal BH when I would not do much. I will have a clean house, bedding changed, nice food bought, and I will enjoy the carols, although they may remind me of happier times.

I echo your sentiments * BlueBelle*. Christmas can be a hard time for a great many. I truly wish Peace on Earth and In peoples hearts.

I had my legs dressed yesterday, and the nurse, I think, was envious of my day tomorrow- doing what I want when I want and not slaving in the kitchen as she will be.

Sometimes people are on their own within a group
I just think it’s very, very hard time of year when everyone is either having fun or pretending to have fun and many get forgotten
Many many people are alone within a crowd, my thoughts go out to everyone, everywhere who feels a bit lonely or sad
Think of all the refugees fleeing harm, people in war folk in abusive relationships or losing a loved one at this ‘fun’ time of year All those estranged or missing their families in what ever way and young people, homeless people, and any grans or grandads alone …thinking if you all ❤️

According to radio 4 there is a high proportion of 25-35 year olds on their own as well.
