FGT I completely agree Christmas Day is lovely but oh how I love Boxing Day it seems more relaxing even if I have a house full. Pressure seems off. We are on our own today chilling🥂So very lovely I have my Prosecco open😂

hollysteers Thu 26-Dec-24 13:35:18

Just want to add that I keep the respectable pieces of wrapping paper to recycle, not the presents!😁
These candles were very good, slow burning and non drip👍

Good Boxing Day to you all.!
I have been leisurely clearing up after yesterday but it all went very well.
The food was great (though I say it myself 🤣😅)
The DGC wonderful. We played charades after lunch. DGS accompanied his wee cousins on the electric piano. I only wish we had recorded it.
Dsil kept the log fire going and it felt like old times.
The dogs met for the first time. The pup loved the wee daschund but he growled and protected his parents jealously.
I loved my gift of new walking poles
(which I had requested)

Sorry that your plans had to change Karmalady but can't be helped.
I hope all the poorly ones are soon better. Blossoming flowers

Fabulous for you Marydoll to watch those girls hand in hand. So special.

Aggie that was a bit too exciting!!

I hope your day is going well everyone. I may go for a walk before dark. With my new poles!

Weather rubbish, shops mobbed, I'm going nowhere. Walnut Whips calling my name and a day of reading beckons. Hope everyone here has a good day.

I have just sat down after being in the go since 8am.

We have 19 here for lunch, it’s been a really busy three days, I think I might collapse at the weekend.

The Imp had a Karaoke machine for his main gift from his Mum (DD) unfortunately she got his brother (the 9 ye old) a set of mixing decks…

It is going to be a very noisy day, 8 children aged from nearly 5 to 16 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Good morning everyone. It’s cloudy and quite mild here in Lancashire. I used to be a regular poster but the last couple of years have been a struggle as my vision is quite bad, screen use is limited and my mobility is non-existent. I now have an assisted wheelchair so that MrB can get me to appointments, etc, as I can only manage a few steps with my stick. Today we are going out for an afternoon tea with our lovely family, no little ones just us oldies 😊. I hope you are all doing well, I wish you a happy Christmas and New Year 🌹

Good morning from a dull , mild Co Armagh
Lovely day yesterday, daughter is so organised !
I had been left in charge or the pud reheating in the pressure cooker ! It never came to pressure ! Eldest grandson was chatting as I worried and fidgeted
I turned it off ! It had boiled dry , never happened to me before
Grandson rapt to open doors as the smoke alarm shrieked and the water form the kettle spat and went into firing mode
However all calmed down and the pud was delicious 🤤
Don’t think I’ll forget to add plenty of water next time
I’ll try and get some of the black off the pot tomorrow!!

A very late Good Morning from a bright, chilly Durham, several degrees lower than yesterday.
A bit chaotic, but an enjoyable Christmas Day with DD2 and family, although I’m pleased it’s all over. I kept Little Dog here overnight and she’ll come for him later, with DGS2 while her DH is at football. I’ll take my decorations down after they go and get them all packed away.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning Mick and all from a damp 7° northwest coast.
Christmas Day went very well with DD and DS cooking and with three of us, not too much bother.
Lots of presents and I always keep the respectable pieces to recycle.
I was going to turn in earlyish last night, but DS put the film ‘Airplane’ on (again) and still find it funny.

DGD due today and lots of food here.
Wishing you all a happy St.Stephens/BoxingDay 🎄🎄🎄

Good morning from a blue skied Co Durham.

Quiet day yesterday. Only 4 for Christmas meal, mid afternoon. My 50+ year old Hostess trolley had its annual outing meaning all the food was prepared and waiting when brother and sister in law arrived at 2pm. Over estimated the amount we would eat (again) so plenty of leftovers for today.
Busy day in store tomorrow with dd1, son out law and brother and sister in law. DD2 , sil and dgd may or may not call. They arrive home late tonight from Christmas in the sun.
Hope you all have a good Boxing. day.

Good morning all. It’s a misty, dreich start to the day in Glasgow.

My first of not hosting Christmas and it was such a treat
Both DGDs had set the table and youngest DGD thoughtfully removed the empty chair out of the room. I was thankful she did. An empty chair which DH would have occupied would have been a difficult reminder for all of us. DD1 refused my offer to help telling me to relax as it was her turn now paying back for all the years I hosted. We had a lovely relaxing day, delicious meal and our usual blethering and laughter with both labs lying in the corner hoping for turkey treats when the meal was over. Catch up FT with DD2 and SiL in Brisbane. I later dropped DGD2 off at a party in my area.

I empathise with your painful hip StillLearning. I took pain relief meds with me knowing they would be needed at some point.

Two cousins who live nearby will be popping in for coffee and cake at some point today other than that, the day is my own to do whatever I feel like doing.

Best wishes to all for a good day with thoughts to those coping with difficult times.

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is 10°C.

I am still in bed and DD has just come in, looking for her mum, because she has a migraine. Just like when she was still at home. 💕

We had a lovely day at DS2's yesterday, where I for once was happy to be waited on hand and foot. I used to be a control freak, but I am finding daily living quite difficult at the moment and have finally admitted defeat. It has made me quite sad.

I was really emotional, when I saw my three children and their partners enjoying each other's company. They became estranged during lockdown, which broke my heart.
My joy was completed by seeing Dollie and & Babydoll wandering about hand in hand, delighted to be in each other's company.

I shall have a day of doing nothing! Before going to DS's I took a chunk off the enormous turkey crown for our dinner today. It will be supplemented with Malteser cheesecake and trifle liberated from DS's fridge.

For those of you spending time with family, safe journey and enjoy the day. However, I know there will be some of you, who do not enjoy Christmas for a myriad of reasons, hugs for you.💐
It is difficult to read on GN of other's joy, when your own life is full of loneliness and sadness.

Have a pleasant day, whatever your plans.

P,S. Mr MD behaved true to form. He mislaid his jacket and we turned DS's house upside down, looking for it. It was finally found in his car. 🤷‍♀️
On emptying the boot, when we got home, I found Babydoll's many gifts from us. DIL had decided to open them later, because she was a bit overwhelmed. For some unfathomable reason Papa, picked them up as we were leaving. Baby got nothing from her grandparents this Christmas. 😭

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 26-Dec-24 09:34:23

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry. Alexa tells me it’s 7°C. We had a wonderful full on family time yesterday but oh, I do so love Boxing Day better (always have!). Enjoyable in its own quieter way. We’re off to my stepfather’s this afternoon where we’ll chat and I’ll have a malt with him. Nice.

GrannySomerset Thu 26-Dec-24 09:30:45

Yesterday had a delightful lunch with friends, and I realise I will be quite happy if I never have to cook another Christmas dinner with its complicates timings, strange though it felt after so many decades in charge. Spent the evening with my friend next door but one with Prosecco, cheese biscuits and Call the Midwife. Now need to get ready for the arrival later of DD and co. Hope they, and everyone travelling, have trouble-free journeys.

harrigran Thu 26-Dec-24 09:06:50

Good morning from a dry and mild NE.
Yesterday was a busy day but filled with happiness.
DD and SIL arrived early afternoon and we had coffee and cake. DS and family arrived shortly before dinner which was a vegetarian no turkey crown with all the trimmings. DIL brought a Christmas pudding that she had made, much lighter than the usual recipe.
After dinner we had our musical evening, DD on the piano, DS on the banjo and GD on the violin. GD then sang all the traditional carols with DD accompanying her on the piano, not a dry eye in the house. Little concert finished with Bohemian rhapsody.
DD and SIL stayed overnight but they will be leaving at lunchtime to spend the day with his brother.
I will be having the laziest day imaginable.
Have a good day.

For the drive

Beechnut Thu 26-Dec-24 08:56:26

Good morning everyone from the Cotswolds. I can see it’s misty from my bedroom window and all is quiet.

I’ve just given my granddog a pat on my way back from the bathroom. She had appeared on the landing.

I had a lovely Christmas Day and after spending several days indoors at home was glad to get out in my car from the drive here.

Enjoy your leftovers today 🍖🧀🥕

Greyduster Thu 26-Dec-24 08:51:56

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very foggy South Yorkshire. Had a really lovely day yesterday. I had some lovely presents. Everyone including GS pitched in and helped with lunch, the timings for which were worked out by my SiL like a military operation and we all sat down to eat at two. DD and I had a short walk before it went dark and were treated to the most wonderful sunset - I didn’t have my camera, but she did. Sadly, I will not see DS and DiL today as planned; she has the most horrendous cough and is quite poorly so they are staying at home. To add insult to her injury, their oven conked out yesterday and they had to resort to some ingenious methods to secure their Christmas dinner! Once DD and the boys have gone home, I will have a quiet day catching up on new books, tv and maybe have a turn round the block later.
Hope your day went without a hitch and today the same.

Susan56 Thu 26-Dec-24 08:49:39

Good morning from Shropshire.Another mild day forecast.

We enjoyed yesterday.Like others it was strange not to be hosting.DD’s and SIL’s did all the work so we enjoyed watching the grandchildren play with their new toys.A lovely day with good company and lovely food.

Today DD1 and family will come over here.A walk is planned and more food😬

I am glad you were able to relax your mind madeleine.Enjoy your lamb dinner today.

Have the best day you can everyone.🦩

BlueSapphire Thu 26-Dec-24 08:44:45

Good morning everyone from a very overcast and foggy East Northants; still at DD's with all the family, and just enjoying a large mug of tea.

I have come down with an awful cough and cold, and have lost my voice, but that didn't stop me enjoying a wonderful Christmas day yesterday - lots of presents and a very good Christmas dinner cooked by DD and DS-in-law.

An easier day today for them foodwise, lots of leftovers to enjoy!

Will be here another night, home tomorrow. Have a lovely day, everyone.

NannyJan53 Thu 26-Dec-24 08:40:54

Good morning from a mild but cloudy Black Country.

Just had my coffee using my new milk frother, lovely smile

Quiet day yesterday, had Mum over for dinner of which she ate the lot, after saying my appetite is not so good nowadays. Meal, pudding and a mince pie and two Baileys later, I took her home.

Watched the final episode of Gavin and Stacey, which I felt was the perfect ending. Crackin!

Today 12 of us are gathering at DDs, will meet Nieces boyfriend for the first time. I will be making a Salted Caramel cake and a Twix Cheesecake to take over.

Wishing you all a lovely Boxing Day.

brook2704 Thu 26-Dec-24 08:33:36

Good morning everyone from a mild grey looking Inverness
Love the picture mizuna what a great present!
We enjoyed the day yesterday at DD2s, lots of new board games to play in the afternoon kept us all busy.
A lazy day today, we might go out for a walk if we can get energised
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning from drizzly East Renfrewshire.

My parents were married 75 years ago today, I was thinking about them as I awoke.

I understand the feeling of handing over the reins, it’s odd not being in charge of the festive meal after so long. I’ll get used to it though, it feels quite luxurious sitting back and having delicious food prepared for me. Daughter and son in law worked together and gave us all a fabulous day.

I’m about to pack up our things, we will detour slightly to stop off at home to collect gifts and food on the way over to Edinburgh where we once again will be waited on, we won’t stay over though as we have guests arriving tomorrow.

Wishing everyone as good a day as possible.
