grumppa sending good wishes for you and your DW to have a happy 2025.

We went to see the fireworks on the Thames one year; great excitement. Sadly the wind blew the smoke in our direction so the flashes were barely visible!

Now we are tucked up in bed well before midnight, having spent the evening transferring birthdays etc to the new calendar.

I open the back door to let the old year out before opening the front door to welcome the new year in before breakfast on Jan 1st.

Used to but not anymore - my two dear NYE pals will be celebrating at a party in the sky. I will be thinking of them while I watch the fireworks on TV …

A quiet New Year for us this year. Sometimes we go to friends or they come to us, but they’re away this year.
At one time we used to go out for the evening followed by first footing, but those days are long gone.
I’ll cook us a nice meal, we’ll toast the New Year and then go to bed.
The idea of going to noisy pubs lost its appeal a long time ago.

Always stay in, and always have a malt whisky at midnight to see the old year out, as my grandmother used to say. Drinking alone this year, as DW is in hospital.

We will be at a party with friends. I can remember staying up until 3am in the morning, but those days are long gone. If we make it until 1am that will be something.

We have always stayed in but we are going out with friends to a local new restaurant. We went last New Years eve it was a very nice change. We will be home before midnight though. As our dog will need cuddles being scared of fireworks.

We spend NY eve with friends alternating one year they host and the next year us. It is our turn to host this year. I will cook a dinner for us, we play a few games and then watch the fireworks on TV. Christmas is for our families but New Year is celebration time with our special friends 🥂🍾

31st Dec is DH's birthday so we have a nice dinner and some champagne at home (not worth booking a restaurant table, as only an idiot would be out on the roads on certain nights of the year!). At midnight we bang saucepans outside, call out HNY to any neighbours who are out doing the same, then we go to bed.

It's Hogmanay here in Scotland!

It will be just DH and me. We have some lovely fillet steak for our evening meal and a hotpot for NYD. We will go out of our front door just before midnight and watch the fireworks and go inside to continue watching Hootenanny. In between all this I will have to catch my smart meter readings at midnight as the prices go up and I like to work out my bill. All good stuff....lol

We will be like you Judy54!
Conga lines in our cul-de-sac with friends and neighbours with fireworks are long behind us. 😁

I lie in bed and watch the fireworks and celebrations on TV and also out of my window as I live on a hill..

I do still make a list of New Year Resolutions though.. in my head

I’m often working a late shift but if home we enjoy a family meal and drink but in bed before midnight.I really like the hope that goes with a New Year and the feeling of a clean slate.

DD2 and family always spoil me rotten at Christmas and they like to spend NYE with their friends so I cook myself a nice meal and then watch Jools Holland/fireworks etc. I always drink a toast to DH and DD1 with his favourite Famous Grouse whisky. It’s the only time of year I drink it so I save what’s left for his birthday on Jan 10th when DSiL will be happy to help me out by finishing the bottle. 🥳

Used to go out and get totally hammered but that was about 40 years ago, rarely do I even stay up to see it in now 🤷‍♀️

We have another couple over for a quiet meal, play a board game or two, wish them happy New Year, watch the fireworks, and say goodnight.

We have done a lot of celebrating on New Year's Eve over the years but now we prefer to have a quiet evening in. We will enjoy a lovely meal and some nice wine and be in bed before Midnight. How about you do you still like to celebrate or is that now a thing of the past?
