Good morning from a calm Suffolk after a bright sunny day yesterday. I think it will be different today.

I spent 3 hours with my dear friend yesterday over coffee and cheese scones and it felt as though life was returning to normal after this festive period.

We no longer stay up til midnight although we always reminisce about the White Heather club on tv on New Years Eve.

I hope that 2025 is a year of peace and good health for all and those whose worries continue find comfort.

Good morning everyone from a still dark and cloudy Northampton, but according to the weather app it should stay fine today. That being so, I shall hop on the bus to the shops later on this morning.

Another day of staying in yesterday and caught up with more tv recordings including two ballet programmes. I still have Nutcracker to watch, and am saving that for tomorrow, New Years Day.

Need inspiration for dinner tonight, so I am hoping my trip to M&S Food will provide that.

Have a good NYE, everyone. Hoping to stay up for the fireworks on tv.

Good morning from a wild and windy County Durham.
Yesterday we enjoyed our Centreparcs spa before we left for the journey home arriving back before dark. As neither of us could be bothered to cook DH ordered a takeaway from a local Italian restaurant, the same one we used for DD 40th birthday. This time however meals were rather disappointing.
Tonight we're calling in to on DD1 before we arrive at DS for New Year. I don't think we'll be staying too long after midnight this year. After a busy week I can't wait for normality to resume!
Wishing all a happy New Year's Eve.

Good morning from W Kent. A quiet day here hoping for a short walk to local shops, see how we go.
I have decided to keep a diary for 2025 as so many family changes are likely particularly for the adult GC.
Wishing everyone the best possible 2025

Morning Mick, morning All. A fine start to our corner of Somerset, strong wind forecast from lunch time through to tomorrow evening.

Yesterday whizzed past, enjoyed socialising then headed out to collect a jacket (too big so it’s going back after breakfast) and yet another album for my photo shrinking project.

Home then to prepare our Christmas meal for mid afternoon, a NYE mini tradition if we’ve not eaten at home on Christmas Day. We’ll watch a couple of films and likely be off to bed well before midnight.

Travel safely if on the move, enjoy this evening as best you can everyone, best wishes to all.

Good morning from a dry but very windy NE.
It has been a very noisy night.
DD and SIL are coming to take me shopping, it is two weeks since I got fresh food. We will have lunch then they will go and visit an old work colleague of DD.
They will return this evening and we will have dinner and see in the New year together.
Not sure I will see DS tomorrow, he had his MMR vaccine and wasn't feeling well. He did not have his vaccination as a child because of his eczema.
Thoughts are with poorly people.

Grandmabatty Tue 31-Dec-24 07:40:04

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9°, windy and wet. All fireworks have been cancelled which is just as well.
Yesterday I achieved more than I set out to. The butcher's shop was empty as was Tesco, so I was home quickly. I decided to take down the tree and the decorations and got that done too.
Today I'll pop to Aldi for coffee pods which I forgot about yesterday. Then it's veg preparation for tomorrow and start the trifle. I'm making leek and potato soup as well. I'll set the dining table for tomorrow too. I'll make sure there's nothing in the washing basket- a hang up from my mum- and get all the housework done ready for the New Year.
I wish you all a good new year when it comes.

Good morning from mid Essex, where it’s getting light, is dry and 7 degrees on the garden thermometer. The forecast is for cloud again, but it was such a treat to see the sun all day yesterday.
I went for a short walk in the morning, and a friend called in for coffee and a chat in the afternoon, so a good day!
My hip is aching today, think I may have twisted it somehow yesterday, so I must be more careful today.
I hope those who are poorly feel better today, and sympathies for those who have had bad news recently.
Have the best day possible everyone..

Good morning all from a chilly but dry North Leicestershire.

A lazy start today - nothing happening until we go to watch My Fair Lady at Curve in Leicester. Friends have been and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then a lovely take away curry.

I doubt I will still be up at midnight.

Happy New Year everyone and have the best day possible.

Good Morning from a dark Durham - it’s blowing a gale outside. After Vera, Morse and Lewis, I managed to fall asleep after 4am and now awake with a sore throat and a bit of a cough.
Later, I’m taking stuff to DD2 who is going to watch early fireworks (if they are still going ahead) on Newcastle Quayside. I’m going to DD1’s local Chinese restaurant and will stay over with her.
Condolences to Susan 💐.
Hope MD starts to feel better soon.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from Malta where another dry, fairly warm day is expected.

Yesterday I looked after the boys from 9.30 until 3.30 and what joy it was! They never stopped but it was such fun to see how well they play together and they even had Nana playing basketball with them and, don’t ask me how, sitting on the see saw! I thought I’d never get up again!😂

Littlest finally fell asleep on my knee at 3pm just before DD3 got home. Having a grandchild fall asleep on you is one of life’s precious blessings.

I’m so sorry to hear your sad news, Susan and also that poor Marydoll has fallen foul of the dreaded virus.

To those of you celebrating I wish you a happy and safe evening, I shall be tucked up in bed before midnight I expect.

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire but seems we can expect rain later. Yesterday was sunny and quite mild. I had a lovely walk round one of our parks to blow the cobwebs away.
Last night I watched Matthew Bourne’s “Sleeping Beauty” on tv. I’ve never been a ballet fan, so I don’t know what made me give it a go, but this was mesmerising and the staging very clever. Today I shall start dismantling the Christmas decorations and put the whole bag of mashings in the conservatory until some kind soul volunteers to stick them back in the loft!
I shall be in bed and asleep before all the fireworks go off this evening but to those who are seeing in 2025, have a great time!

RosesandLilac Tue 31-Dec-24 06:58:06

Good morning from a chilly hillside in south Glos, a dry start to the day.
I slept very badly for some reason, irritating because I have a busy day ahead and DH won’t be here to help because he has a routine eye appointment at the eye hospital.
Yesterday was usual household stuff, DS and his family come today so I need to sort out the airbed etc. I will make a big pan of soup for lunch with grilled cheese sandwiches and fruit to follow.
A few lovely days ahead while they’re here!
Happy New Year for tomorrow 🌹

Good morning from a mild Torbay with a warning for high winds later.

Thank you for the many kind thoughts regarding the loss of my theatre friend and our journey home from Crewe yesterday. Having risen early, we were on the road by 7.15a.m. and home by 12.15p.m., including an hour long break at Michaelwood Services. What a difference from the 8.5 hour crawl up North last Friday!

Now, I'm up early to write a tribute to our Props friend for the January edition of Croak, our monthly Toads' newsletter as the deadline is today.

How sad to read of weather related cancellation of Hogmanay events which was the fate of some pre Christmas outdoor plans earlier this month.

Sincere condolences to you, Susan56 on the loss of your cousin and I hope your Mum will not be too unsettled by another change. My best wishes to those in hospital or poorly at home, especially Grammaretto and Marydoll and to you all for 2025. 🍾🥂🎉

glammagran Tue 31-Dec-24 06:45:31

Good morning all.

Nothing to report as the last couple of days have been very quiet. Just an Ocado delivery today and DH will have his RSV vaccine this morning.

I hope Granmeretto is doing well after her hip op. And thoughts with ilovepuffins that your niece has a successful outcome from her op. Condolensces to Susan56 - I hope 2025 will be much kinder to you. Wishing you a speedy recovery from noravirus Marydoll - a truly hideous bug which GC’s love to generously share. 🌺🌺🌺🌺

We will see in the New Year with leftover nibbles from the freezer and a glass (or two) of champagne.

Happy New Year to you all.

Good morning from s somerset, bright this morning then windy and dull

First pair of socks for a present is done, these wools are magical, so soft and they make their own colourful pattern

I have just topped up my winter meds box and taken it out to be handy, just in case. The quadrademic sweeping areas of the uk is truly horrendous and meds need to be in plain sight. I had flashbacks to when I had the real flu, 1978 and hearing dd say how she is feeling reminded me of that time. Living on your own makes it much more difficult to cope, hence the handy med box in my house

A walk this morning and then veg juice making and a pretty quiet hibernating day

Have a good day

Bonnybanko Tue 31-Dec-24 06:36:13

Good morning from what will soon be old years night here on the east coast of Fife, the sausage rolls and pigs in blankets are all ready to pop in the oven for our guests who are coming to see the bells in and stay the night. We’ll have a little drink ready for when the clock strikes 12 , it’s going to be fun.it’ll be the obligatory steak pie from the butchers tomorrow with roast potatoes Brussel sprouts, peas and the bestest gravy.

A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Kalu Tue 31-Dec-24 06:28:52

Good morning all. Another day of heavy rain and high winds in Glasgow. I feel sorry for so many who were looking forward to Hogmanay fireworks displays as all have been cancelled this year.

Thankfully I only had a small shopping list for a quick trip to Waitrose yesterday, the store was full of frenzied shoppers on a short fuse. Madness!

DD1 is visiting later for a coffee catch up. Other than that the day my own to do as I please. No Hogmanay celebrations this year by choice and I will be in bed before midnight.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Mizuna Tue 31-Dec-24 06:28:52

Good morning from a cold, calm Cornwall. Sounds like your neighbour's friend was trying to reach out to you gM. Condolences to those with losses as the year ends.

Bought a Christmas cake in M&S yesterday for 80p, originally £8. Will go back today to see if there are any New Year's Eve fresh food offers. In Tesco the Easter eggs have arrived! Yikes! 😁

See you all again next year!

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 31-Dec-24 06:09:53

Good morning, I’m assuming it’s dry because the stars are bright in the sky here in Oxfordshire.

Not much happening today, dog has gone home, but time to freeze all the ‘goodies’ left over from Christmas, if I eat any more cakes or pies I will be as fat as a house. All unopened ‘goodies’ will go in the big cupboard, with my current wobbly head I will promptly forget where I’ve put them (hopefully).

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can and that the poorly Grans have a better day today. Hope that the weather isn’t as bad as they predict.

Pantglas2 Tue 31-Dec-24 05:55:36

Good morning Mick from a very 🌬️ north Wales coast made worse by the fact that I need to go out in it…🤨

So sorry to read of your losses Ash and Susan 💐 and hope that the operations go/went smoothly Grammaretto and ilovepuffins. All others in the sick bay 🤞you’re on the mend for 2025 x

Fresh food shop in Bangor, some sewing supplies at Dunelm before a browse in The Range then home is my delight of the day but I do have to pass TKMaxx Miss Marydoll…😂

A quiet early night at PGTowers and wishes for a better year ahead for us all x🥂

New Year’s Eve!
Good morning from a dry Bristol. It’s a lot milder atm.
I had a successful day yesterday - Tesco, this takes most of the morning due to accommodating my neighbour’s friend. It was made longer because she wanted to show me some photos which her adult GS had taken in Mauritius. So we went up to her flat to have a look. It was only identifiable by the labels. I made the right noises, but quite honestly….
In the afternoon, I did all the administrative stuff as well as answering several Christmas cards/letters.
I’ve nearly finished the third a wise Man for my nativity, be done today probably.
An empty today, preparing for my little afternoon tea tomorrow.
May travellers arrive safely and those in sick bay feel more comfortable.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
