Good Morning Everyone,
From a dark ,dry but cold brackley this morning.
My usual routine bus trip to Bicester , seems fewer passengers with the £3 fare single on them , mind you I only do it one way and use my bus pass for return leg .
Apart from housework , my health is OK .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow, its -1°C.

DH has just brought a cuppa for my painkillers and a heat pack for my hip. I haven't slept much. However, I think he is struggling to maintain his Florence Nightingale persona. This lurgy has been lingering far too long.😉

Poor Grandmabatty has succumbed to it too. Get well, soon.💐

Slightly better news for your DD, Kalu and Bella, I hope your daughter finds some relief from the pain and itch.
Grammaretto, I hope you are not in too much pain.

I made such a mess of the church rotas, when I was unwell and people keepswapping, they are a mess. I will need to try and redo them today, if I can muster the energy.

Apart from that, not much on the cards. The decorations will need to stay up a bit longer, I do not have the energy. DH says that this is probably one of the worst Christmases we have ever had, apart from the year after we got married and were snowed in, with little food in the house. We were supposed to be visiting our parents for Christmas and to make things worse, our car engine froze. 😱

For those of you out and about, take care.

Good Morning Mick and everyone from a very frosty Carlisle. The sky is clear and Venus is shining away.

Yesterday I was busy with chores in the morning, a Tesco delivery at lunchtime, brain-training and reading in the afternoon. In the evening, I binge-watched and finished the Beeb's showing of an old production of The Mayor of Casterbridge. It showed its age. And did Thomas Hardy ever write a book that wasn't sad and tragic?

Today, I hear a pile of ironing calling to me and I have some tedious admin to do. I'm not going out for the second day running. Down in the park on New Year's Day, some of the paths were quite wet or flooded so they will be skating rinks at the moment. I'm not risking my aging bones on them!

Madeleine...How embarrassing! It's not easy to keep track of what day of the week it is at the moment especially when you are not working. I've already had to tell myself it's Friday not Thursday.

Best wishes to all poorlies, I hope you and yours are mending.

Have the best possible day everyone.

Good morning from a frosty and bright Suffolk where we should have some sun later.

Apart from a walk with the dog I’ve no plans to venture out and shall enjoy a quiet day indoors. I intend to start sorting out a wardrobe full of clothes I used to wear for work which I kept thinking I might wear them again.

Since that work ended 15+ years ago and subsequent work required a more casual wardrobe,I don’t think I need them now!

Madeleine45 I haven’t heard the word “barnpot’ since my father used it. He died more than 20 years ago and reading it just now gave me happy memories of my childhood.

Hope all stay safe and well in the spell of bad weather forecast for the next few days.

Ashcombe Fri 03-Jan-25 08:09:52

After reading about all you have been through, madeleine45, it's hardly surprising you’ve mistaken the days. Also, at this time of year, it’s easily done by many of us! I’m sure the customer service ladies will understand and appreciate your apology.

Good morning everyone from a very white and snowy Inverness, with a bit more snow forecast for later
A very Happy Birthday to The Imp GG13 enjoy the celebrations! 🎂🎈
Yesterday we enjoyed an unexpected visit to DD2s in the afternoon so didn’t get all the decorations down at home . So today we need to finish that today and a few more jobs done too
Take care everyone in the cold icy weather if out and about
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

luluaugust Fri 03-Jan-25 07:50:57

Good morning from a -1 W Kent.
A hospital visit this afternoon so the Surgeon can check my eye and hopefully make arrangements for the other one to be done. Hoping the traffic is not too bad.
A bit of cooking this morning to get ready for family coming at the weekend
Best wishes to all

Good morning all from a very dark and cold north yorkshire. Just caught a glimpse of the 3 brass monkeys by the window!!

Well have always known I am a "barmpot" but yesterday I confirmed it!! I am struggling to get things sorted here and catch up with things. Everything takes so much longer than you think it will. I am sure that the Borrowers have taken up residence behind the skirting board. Who else would take a hairbrush, the toiletbrush holder, several buttons, the most reliable screwdriver et all? But I really did go mad yesterday.
Went out for essential shopping, and to check yet again if my money has come into the bank account from the insurers. (No!!! still nothing) Very tired and in a lot of pain. Wrote list out and managed to get the majority of stuff I needed. Couldnt wait to get home. I have to use the disabiilty scooter in Tesco, and it is nigh on impossible to manouever it round the paper stand without blocking everyones way. I was positive that it was friday, and so asked someone to pass me the local D@S, that is the Darlington and Stockton Times, so didnt look at the date myself. Got home in such pain that I only brought the frozen stuff to put away immediately. Then made a coffee and sat down to let the pain ease off a bit before tackling putting shopping awa.y Got the paper out to enjoy that with my coffee and was irritated to find it was last weeks paper. Very annoying, but really look forward to the paper, not only to see what has happened locally but they put all the details from the villages about what is happening , so coffee mornings whist drives et al. I not only read it for my own pleasure, but make a note of local things and send an email to telling hem what is happening. It is a small service I can do, and a lots of the other members of the g roup tell me how much they like it. when they are busy with families they can miss information or there may be something that would appeal to the family, so my weekly note is read by many and used as it suits them. So feeling very annoyed I heaved myself out of the chair and drove back to Tesco, queued at the customer service and asked for them to either get me an up to date one or return my money. I also said that they had better remove the other ones there or they would be getting more people returning them. They didnt have the new one so took my money and left. Called to another newspaper shop to see if they had any. Couldnt see any in the normal place and asked the staff member if they had some more behind the counter or had they not had any delivery. She looked at me and said "No, the new ones would be in tomorrow" I still didnt cotton on, and asked if there was a delay with th complete lot. " No" she said " They will be in as usual tomorrow!!!" I looked at her and said "Is it thursday then?" "Yes "she said. so this morning I shall have to go cap in hand and grovel and apologise to my nice ladies on the customer service at Tesco!! i really thought it was friday and had torn the thursday page out of the radio times!! Must make a note to do nothing of importance today or I shall find I have signed up for something I dont need. So from a rather abashed an weary shopper I wish you all a vey good FRIDAY and hope my brain will get back into ger for next week

RosesandLilac Fri 03-Jan-25 07:47:51

Good morning from a very frosty-6° hillside in south Glos, the cars are all white with ice 🥶
I have my cardiac review at the surgery this morning, not looking forward to the drive into the village as it will be very icy on the hills where springs flow across the road.
A dog walk first thing will give me the chance to see just how icy it is!
DS and family went home yesterday via a lovely walk on the south coast near Highcliffe, they sent some lovely photos. It was so nice seeing them.
Little planned for the next few days, I am not looking forward to having the snow that’s forecast!
Take care everyone 🌹

Jaxjacky Fri 03-Jan-25 07:45:11

Morning from a frosty -3 S Hants, the bin men are outside, must be freezing.
My son called in yesterday to open his birthday presents which he loved, a heavy griddle pan and two frozen rib eye steaks to go with it.
Grocery delivery later and dependent on the ice, a walk.
Have a good day all

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jan-25 07:42:45

Sar53 I hope you had a fabulous time in Madeira, did you bump into the PM who was there also 😹

cornergran Fri 03-Jan-25 07:31:53

Morning Mick, morning All from a frosty corner of Somerset.

A blue sky is,promised. Mr C wants to go out for breakfast - he says Welsh people are tough and a bit of frost doesn’t stop them! I must present myself at the hospital before 3 for a blood test, the is it or isn’t it lupus saga rumbles on. If we manage all that a couple of stops on the way back and I suspect the day will be filled.

Take care everyone, keep warm and have the best day you can.

Sar53 Fri 03-Jan-25 07:27:51

Good morning from the Essex coast where I can see a thick frost on the cars.
I'm still catching up with washing after our Christmas trip to Madeira and I have loads of accounts stuff for the yacht club to tackle.
Tomorrow we are going to my brother's belated wedding party so I need to pack for that as well.
Slightly late New Year greetings to you all. I hope 2025 will be a good year for the world although confidence is not high.
Thinking of those with mountains to climb, may you find some peace.
Best wishes to all xx

Redcar Fri 03-Jan-25 07:27:45

Good morning from mid Essex. It’s getting light, a clear blue sky with a thick frost. I shall be staying indoors at least until it warms up a bit.
Had a new router installed yesterday, the new BT/EE digital phone initiative. Son in law was here and sorted out the tv and door bell and I managed the rest of the devices, except for the printer!
kalu pleased that your DD hasn’t any vertebral fractures, as you say, a lucky escape.
A quiet day for me today, I think I’ve been doing too much since I came home and my hip is complaining!
Have the best day possible everyone, stay warm and safe!

Ashcombe Fri 03-Jan-25 07:23:11

Good morning from a chilly Torbay.

Yesterday, DH broke a tooth so our priority today will be trying to get that sorted out. Luckily, he is registered with my dentist here who incidentally is singularly unimpressed with the state of his teeth, treated in France for the past 20 years!

Keep well and warm! 🦩💐🥶🥰🦩

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 03-Jan-25 07:04:58

Morning by all from West Oxfordshire where it’s -2 and a thick frost.

OH and I might pop into B&Q for some coat hooks and a storage box. There again, we may just stay home in the warm.

Elder son and his family should be back from their trip to France so it will be good to hear about their adventures.

Have a good day everyone. Keep warm.

kittylester Fri 03-Jan-25 06:59:46

Good morning all from a freezing North Leicestershire.

Not much happening today as we are expecting delivery and installation of a new cooker. DH is doing a volunteer drive and DS2 is popping in for the catchup we didn't manage over Christmas amid the bedlam.

Have the best day possible everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jan-25 06:52:57

Morning everyone, it’s -2° here in S E Essex

The Imp is 5 today 🙀 seems only yesterday I saw his little face, eyes wide open for the first time 💙

We are off to Nickelodeon at Lakeside with his cousins later for the first of his birthday celebrations 🎂🎉🎈🎁. Tonight we are going to a restaurant he requested (local Turkish, really good food and friendly staff)

He will have a soft play party with his school friends when term begins.

That’s me sorted for the day.

Keep warm dear friends 🧣🧤

Kalu Fri 03-Jan-25 06:39:32

Good morning all. Repeat heavy frost and sunshine in Glasgow.
Bitter cold outside. 🥶

I have a clearer picture of DD2’s fractures now. Transverse fractures and thankfully no vertebrae fractures. She is now home with heavy duty pain relief and a list of physio exercises. A lucky escape from any serious damage.

Not sure at this point if I will go out today or stay at home, all depending on what mood I feel will make the decision. Just going with the flow.

My best wishes to all for a good day. Kind thoughts to those going through difficult times.

Ilovepuffins Fri 03-Jan-25 06:37:30

Good morning from Oxfordshire
Haven't looked out yet but forecast to be a cold sunny day.
Work day today.
Wishing everyone the best day possible

Georgesgran Fri 03-Jan-25 06:35:25

Good Morning from Durham. It’s going to be clear and cold today, feeling like -7. My head cold is developing nicely, but, as yet, I feel ok and slept well with Night Nurse, hot milk and honey.
I’ll take Little Dog home to DD2 and collect more laundry late morning. DD1 has asked me to do ‘something’ with DGS1, so I’ll see what he fancies. He may just want to stay at home, so I’ll come home and start to sort out a set of boxes in the bottom of a wardrobe - mostly old photographs, so most will go.

Hoping to read that the unwell Grans and their family members are improving.

Best wishes to all. X

Bellasnana Fri 03-Jan-25 06:21:46

Good morning from Malta where it is cloudy at the moment and 14°C rising to 17°C later with a chance of showers. Similar was predicted for yesterday but it was sunny and dry all day.

Thanks to all for your kind comments regarding DD1’s shingles. She says it is very itchy.

No plans today, will see how I feel when I manage to part myself from my cosy bed.

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

Greyduster Fri 03-Jan-25 06:13:41

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire. It is one degree outside with a very hard frost. Other than going to the supermarket and tackling a pile of ironing, I have no plans for today. We’ll see what the weather does.
Have the best day you can, folks.

grandMattie Fri 03-Jan-25 06:08:43

Good morning from Bristol. I haven’t looked out, but the forecast is for ice and sunshine later.
I made some marmalade yesterday, I think it is ‘overset’.
Same again today, i.e. very little.
I hope the sick improve, the sad cope with their difficulties and everyone else has a good day.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Pantglas2 Fri 03-Jan-25 06:08:32

Good morning Mick from a noticeably cooler north Wales coast…the chamberpot ☕️that cheers will soon warm me up 😉

No bingo win last night and the snowball rolls over til next week - exciting times eh! A few drinks 🍷 this evening at a friend’s around the corner and that will be the weekend highlight as we’re promised snowfall and that’ll keep me off the roads!

Will pop along later and read of all your doings…

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 03-Jan-25 06:07:04

Good morning, Alexa said it would be -4 this morning, the bedroom is unheated and feels chilly so she could be right.

I’ve been awake for hours and MrOops has set the alarm for 7 so when he gets up and goes out, I’ll start taking down the Christmas decorations, it’s a pity because the tree lights are so pretty, I always have fairy lights in the kitchen and sitting room anyway, just not so many.
Afterwards a quick whizz round with the hoover and a shopping delivery and that’s my day.

Hope anyone who is unwell, sad or stressed finds some comfort today.
