Good Morning Everyone,
From a dark ,dry but cold brackley this morning.
My usual routine bus trip to Bicester , seems fewer passengers with the £3 fare single on them , mind you I only do it one way and use my bus pass for return leg .
Apart from housework , my health is OK .
Take Care,
Mick

Borrheid, fingers crossed for you. I hope it is nothing serious. You have enough to contend with.
I cannot have Ibruprofen tablets, but I use 10% Ibruprofen gel.

It was indeed the winter of '78! My mother lived near you and because it was so high up, it was often icy and the buses couldn't get up the hill.

I remember visiting you in those high flats, I am scared of heights and was afraid to look out of the window. However, the views were amazing.

Borrheid55 Fri 03-Jan-25 11:48:21

PS * Marydoll* hope you’re beginning to feel better! Your body is telling you to slow down so listen to it. I know it goes against the grain but sometimes we just have to take time for ourselves. Much love to you! X

Morning all from sunny Kent! Marydoll I remember the Christmas of ‘78! We lived in the high flats ( Gleniffer Court) so up a hill. I was pregnant with second child and had a 15 month old toddler. I couldn’t leave the house for 2 weeks as the snow kept thawing and refreezing. Buses were off, roads were impassable and the temp was -20C at one point! Hubby (now ex-hubby!) worked in M&S, he walked into town and back. He brought back bags of free shopping cos no one was able to get into the store. We lived off M&S food for a month!
I am waiting for a call from my surgery ( may or may not be a doctor!) . I was at our local - 16 miles away- ‘urgent treatment centre’ on Hogmanay with severe back pain. Nurse practitioner ( no doctors) found a lump which needs checking out! Suggested ibuprofen gel for the back pain , I hadn’t thought of that as I cannot take ibuprofen tabs due to scarring on my kidneys. We waited three hours! I await the diagnosis on the lump (my thought is a lipoma as I have two already) . Best to get it checked as there has been cancer in the family ( father and sister). What a start to the New Year! And my 70th birthday is in 2 weeks - YIKES!
Have a good day all, keep warm!

aggie Fri 03-Jan-25 11:34:10

Karmalady , I’ve seen that done and was amazed ,
This stove has a few extra levers , or so it seems to me ,
The sun is shining in so I’m getting the benefit of the thermal energy
Visiting son says it’s too warm here , but he lives in Edinburgh !

Madeleine, 40 years ago we used to have the D&S times delivered. I thought it had stopped years ago.

A very late good morning from a very frosty and bright Northampton - I managed to sleep till just after 9! I had woken at 6am for a bathroom trip then went back to bed. Very unusual for me, but I must have been making up for a previous bad night.

No plans for today except for making a curry for dinner. Yesterday I decided on a bean and veggie chilli and now have four portions waiting to go in the garage freezer.
I may have a fiddle around with the steam mop to find out why it isn't working so well.
Or I may start my new book club read..

Take care if out and about today.

Good morning from freezing South Lanarkshire but a beautiful blue sky to lift the spirits, we have become so used to grey clouds above us.

Once again I’ll read once I’ve posted, I first opened my eyes at 7.40 and evidently closed them again because when I looked again it was 9.20 I threw myself out of bed and into the shower so I would get to 10.30 SUNDAY mass and was in the middle of that when I worked out that this is Friday.

I am back home after my seasonal journeyings and today will be focussing on a clearly necessary mental reset.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.x

Aggie, I did the scandinavian top-down lighting this morning for the first time. It was the best ever way to get the stove lit. Details online. It seems counter-intuitive

Grandmabatty Fri 03-Jan-25 09:40:51

NannyJan a very happy birthday to your mum.

GrannySomerset Fri 03-Jan-25 09:39:15

A very pretty white world from the window but feels cold so will need to wrap up when going out - oldies’ coffee morning and then neighbours’ drinks tonight, so what passes for a social day for me. Decorations all put away though the cards are still giving me pleasure; so many missing names though, which is hard but inevitable.

aggie Fri 03-Jan-25 09:34:17

Good morning from an icy Co Armagh, this might be the year I light the log burner !
We’ve had it for 7 years and it’s a handy place to perch my houseplants! It’s never felt cold enough to light it !
I’m up but still in pjs ,nothing planned for today
Thinking of the sick and sad 🕯️💐

Good morning from chilly Shropshire🥶

The children came home with us last night so I woke thinking it was Saturday as they normally stay on a Friday. They are staying again tonight.DGD is keen to do some sewing today.H will probably play with his Lego.

Hope all with the lurgy and those in pain start to feel better soon.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

NannyJan53 Fri 03-Jan-25 09:05:56

Good morning from a heavily frosted Black Country. At least the sun is shining.

Mum is 95 today. The family are meeting up for a meal tomorrow as some are now back at work. Hope the predicted snow holds off.

Will do a video call with her shortly.

Hope your appointment goes well today Monk

Good Friday morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Minus 1°C but that could be inside 🤣. I was cold last night and had to put the central heating on.

I know it's Friday because I should be at work at the community store.
I had quite a few First Footers yesterday which was great. The small child tried my lucky dip and adults made me cups of tea.
I could get used to my hospital at home.
However I have lost/dropped the remote down the side of the sofa bed so there'll be no tv or radio until an agile person can have a rummage.

I'm sorry you are still poorly Marydoll and hope you're on the mend along with Grandmabatty, Madeleine, and any others.
It will be a relief that DD isn't too badly injured Kalu with you being so far away.

Enjoy your imp's birthday party
GG
Here's the scene from my window this morning.
Have the best day possible everyone.

monk08 Fri 03-Jan-25 08:55:24

Good morning all from a very frosty Black country where the sun is trying to break through.
I have an appointment for bloods this morning as requested by my eye consultant, not sure if they will also do the 24hr blood pressure monitoring but I shall soon find out.
Shall take a few more decorations down, I do it bit by bit with the tree coming down on Sunday.
Take care all, safe travels those on the move ☀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 03-Jan-25 08:44:16

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it looks bitterly cold out. It’s frosty on the rooftops. Last day of the Christmas holidays for schools here in Trafford. Teacher Mummy is taking the Boy Wonder and L’il Miss to see Paddington2 and we’ve arranged to meet them later for an early lunch after which we’ll come back up and hunker down for the rest of the day.

Georgesgran Fri 03-Jan-25 08:42:30

Madeleine I met my Monday coffee friend yesterday, so today is Tuesday, isn’t it??

Another one lost off here!

Grandmabatty Fri 03-Jan-25 08:38:48

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 0° and frosty. Grannygravy happy birthday to the Imp. Ash* I hope your DH can get an emergency appointment.
Yesterday became unpleasant. As Marydoll said, I succumbed to the lurgy. It appears to be rife in our area. Suffice to say, I had a most unpleasant day which was interspersed with sleeping.
Today things have settled down, fingers crossed, although my innards are quite uncomfortable. The worst thing is the feeling of nausea which hopefully will recede.
So today I'm going nowhere, seeing no-one and doing nothing. I will potter inside and nap if I need to. Have a good day all

Taichinan Fri 03-Jan-25 08:35:02

Good morning all from the Angus coast where it's a balmy +1° and rising to a roasting 4°.
After the hectic past couple of weeks it really is rather nice to have a few days of absolutely nothing, but it gives me nothing to write about either!
So I'll just wish you all a good day as I sit in front of my SAD lamp x

Annypop Fri 03-Jan-25 08:32:47

Good morning from a very chilly County Durham.
Yesterday saw some of the decorations packed away although the trees are still up. I plan to take them down on Sunday. The real tree has lasted well and still fills the room with that wonderful pine aroma.
We went shopping in the sales for a new large suitcase too. Not many to be found in all the usual stores. We eventually ended up in Tesco and bought one as part of their clubcard deal. A real bargain. Our last case was torn apart being dragged up stone steps on a Greek holiday. This has prompted us to do more research regarding gradient when booking accommodation. That was an unexpected steep climb. Never again!
Fingers crossed my new knitting supplies arrive today. I'm rather excited by a new project to keep me busy during the remaining long dark evenings.
Wishing all a peaceful day.

baubles Fri 03-Jan-25 08:31:29

Good morning from cold and frosty South Lanarkshire.

I did very little yesterday other than a wander with the daft dug. We were in recovery from having had a houseful on the 1st.
Today I think we will be forced into a supermarket, if the forecast is correct there’ll be a few days indoors so supplies are needed.

I’ve been crocheting a pram blanket with cotton yarn from my stash but I’m not keen on it so have decided to frog it and perhaps make a basket instead.

Sending my good wishes to all who are below par for whatever reason.

ginny Fri 03-Jan-25 08:31:16

Good morning from a cold and frosty N. Bucks.
A few tearful moments yesterday when we visited my Sister in Law but she is doing well .
She has a very positive outlook and as a technophobe is now determined to tackle the laptop and do more than use her phone for the odd call.
Today I will visit a friend locally who was in hospital over Christmas. I didn’t visit due to all the illnesses in the family. I wanted to make sure I was free of them so as not to pass anything on.
This after I will make myself cosy with my art materials.
Take care, keep warm and have the best day you can.

Gingster Fri 03-Jan-25 08:28:16

Good morning all and we’re back in Essex. The journey home was good but the A12 is full of potholes and makes for a very bumpy ride. How the cars survive I don’t know!

DS1, SIL and dgd2 popped in last evening . Gd still waiting for her clearance checks to be completed so she can start her new job in, what appears to be, a very upmarket children’s nursery.
Goodness me , interview after interview, taking an English and Maths exam , although she has good A level grades, and actually working there for 3 shifts, (no pay of course) . She’ll be training on the job which will hopefully enable her to progress in that field of work.

We’ll meet our Friday friends at lunchtime and chat about our different festivities. Will be nice to see them, and then back home to hunker down in the warm.

I’ll have to shop sometime, perhaps ‘ manyana ‘.

Happy birthday ‘little imp’. I expect you’ll still be calling him that when he’s 30. 😂.

Madeleine I hope your pain eases . It’s funny how we confuse the days this time of year. I was sure yesterday was Friday and today the weekend. 🤯.

Keep warm and cosy !

GrannyIvy Fri 03-Jan-25 08:27:06

Good morning from -1 Cambridgeshire. Yesterday we had games afternoon/evening at DD2’s home, lots of laughter and a fish & chip supper. The 5 year old had broken out with chickenpox but apart from a few itchy spots was on good form entertaining us. It certainly has been one ailment after the other for us all recently.

Today will be a quiet one maybe a run out for a coffee at the local garden centre and a browse around the sale items.

All the Christmas decs here came down yesterday. Don’t you always find a little one somewhere tho that you had missed😂

Wishing a happy (healthy) day to all. Take care out and about on the ice we don’t bounce as well these days!
