Irrational dislikes of people you don’t know..

Perhaps I shouldn’t introduce this topic, as it could get nasty. I was thinking how I have irrational dislikes of people I see on television whom I don’t know at all. Helen Skelton, Sarah Moore (from Money for Nothing), Meghan used-to-be Markle, Luke Littler. I know nothing about any of these people, but I can’t stand them.

Of course the upside of this is that I have irrational likes as well.

Carol Vorderman and her fake…..well everything.

Gyles Brandryth - everybody’s friend and confident, name dropper.

Carol Klein -

Joanna Lumley

Jeremy Clarkson

I don’t dislike these people as I don’t know them . Cannot stand to watch or hear them though.

It's interesting how some of our dislikes turn out to be wrong 'uns. I never liked Hugh Edwards (would always watch the 'other' channel for coverage of events), Greg Wallace and, unsurprisingly, Jimmy Savile.

Alex Jones’ voice 😬
Jamie Oliver always looks like he needs a good wash.
Camilla. I dare not say as I don’t want to be banned 😱

I think we’re mostly talking about plain old chemistry here. Even though there’s a screen between us and the ‘candidate’, we just don’t fancy them. It was like that for me with Kevin Spacey (🤨) and, less reasonably, Rory Kinnear.

I have a very long list ....I think I am not a very tolerant personwink

Kai Widdrington (pro dancer on Strictly) gives me the ick - also Amanda Holden and Carol Vorderman (both up themselves), Keir Starmer (sanctimonious), Angela Rayner, Charlie Dimmock, Naga Munchetty, Alan Carr (his silly voice), Jimmy Carr (his silly laugh), David Walliams (his smuttiness).... probably loads more.
I don't expect they like me either!

I’m not keen on Davina but it’s not irrational! She’s peddled an awful lot of nonsense in her time.

Charles and William
The epitomy of selfishness and greed. Catherine is a gold digger.

Says you who once posted your views on a nasty article by Jeramy Clarkson on Meghan Markle.

Judi Dench. That little girl voice. Always felt that although she and Maggie Smith were supposedly great friends, there was rivalry between them. But she has planted a tree for Maggie in her garden.

Jonathan Ross. What a big head.

Alex Jones. Her awful screechy voice.

Can’t stand the young woman who does the verisure alarms ad, everytime she comes on my OH and I say ‘oh no not her again!’
No idea why.

I don’t mind David Attenborough but I have never felt quite the same about him since one of the missionaries at the church I was attending called him David Rabbitburrow. Keir Starmer I have never liked even before he was PM. Not just his politics, just him. Another one is that bloke who was a judge in Britains Got Talent, Simon something or other.

Some names are coming up quite regularly.
I'm quite surprised by that.

Davina McCall, Lorraine Kelly, Carol Vorderman, Clare Balding,

I cannot look at men in baseball caps. I really can't.

Yes, including that one.

Only those under 18 should wear them.

Oh Davina McCall, yes!!!!

Yes!

I absolutely dislike the man who comperes The Masked Singer and I don't know why. Also not keen on Alan Titchmarsh (his fawning interview with the late Duke of Edinburgh was particularly nauseating). Can't stand David Walliams - his smuttiness or his ghastly books for children.
I do quite like David Attenborough but I was very annoyed some years ago with his remark about curbing world population in order to save the planet. He particularly referred to Africa, which I thought was a bit rich because Africa and the developing countries use just a fraction of the resources of the wealthy countries. Also, I believe he has two children of his own. But on the whole I admire him.

Alex Jones of the One Show. She just irritates me.So much I am put off the whole program

I understand what some people are saying about those who are "up themselves" and think very highly of themselves. It's mainly the ones who have come from TV rather than from a theatre and drama background. Perhaps because they feel they need to prove something. For example, back in the day, DH said that Leonard Rossiter was the most objectionable miserable person to work with on stage, but on tv he came across as funny and endearing.
A few names I agree with on here are:
Chris Packham,
Lorraine Kelly and
David Walliams.
As a parent David Beckham is actually very humble and tries hard to keep his children grounded, (but I'm not saying how I know this).

Can’t agree about Luke Littler.

I was pleased when he won the darts, for a young man he comes across as quite humble, unassuming, level headed…..

I hope he continues to be successful, and remain as sensible and unspoiled as he seems to be.

Bet his mum is so proud.

I’m sure that ‘s all quite right and very reasonable, but this is about irrational dislikes, and he repels me. 17.? He’s more like 50.

It's a strange thing how we can be drawn to one person but be repelled by another.
I don't like Alan Titchmarsh, the sewing women on the repair shop also the twit in the daft cap, never have.
I also have never liked David Attenborough or Chalie Dimmock.
My list is quite long, I don't know what that says about me!!!! 😉

No!!!! How can you not like David Attenborough?? He is adorable and when my granddaughter was about 10, she was mad about him!
Seriously, I understand what you mean. That dreadful Greg Wallace gave me the ‘ick’ long before anything came to light about him. I can’t understand how 4 women actually married him.
It’s strange how we like or dislike people. I have never understood it. But that’s how the cookie crumbles, as they say.
Luckily, there aren’t too many tv people I dislike, and when I come across one, I switch them off!

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned Katie Hopkins as she is universally disliked, especially by those of a Left -leaning persuasion.

Although she undoubtedly goes too far sometimes, she can be very funny in a naughty, wicked way.

Oreo Sat 04-Jan-25 22:35:05

Some dislikes are irrational but other dislikes come from gut feelings.
