Irrational dislikes of people you don’t know..

Perhaps I shouldn’t introduce this topic, as it could get nasty. I was thinking how I have irrational dislikes of people I see on television whom I don’t know at all. Helen Skelton, Sarah Moore (from Money for Nothing), Meghan used-to-be Markle, Luke Littler. I know nothing about any of these people, but I can’t stand them.

Of course the upside of this is that I have irrational likes as well.

I used to like Alan Titchmarsh but not any more. The way he sweeps up in that lovely sports car just screeches ‘here I am! Look at me in my beautiful car that most of the people who at church the programme won’t be able to afford’.
It really puts my teeth on edge and I don’t watch his programmes now. No, not any of them!
My parents always taught me that I shouldn’t flaunt good luck. Flaunting is exactly what Titchmarch is doing!

I am so glad that I'm not alone in disliking David Attenborough, I feel much better knowing that, thanks Gnetters.

I find it fascinating that this thread has encouraged people to tell us their stories of meeting some of the people mentioned. I keep coming back to it for that very reason, we have a very varied and interesting group of members who have so much to tell, given the chance.

Attenborough has made many £ millions preaching gloom and doom for us all, not my favorite either

He might have been preaching doom and gloom but it is proving to be unsettlingly true.. I hope that politicians have been listening..

Here, here! NanKate. I think to myself, what are you doing to yourself you silly blooming woman!
Also, I hate the parted the in middle look, of long, mangy hair, that's so popular now. Ohhh, & big, huge eyebrows too.
Where have all the naturally beautiful, women gone?? They all look like porn-stars now! Not us of course!!
I dress like a farmer most of the time & my hairs a mess but the dog likes me, just as I am. 😊

I like DawnFrench but can’t stand Joanne Lumley and her breathy voice
There’s so many
I can’t stand Alan Carr he is like a finger nail on a blackboard
Don’t like Amanda Holden one bit and sorry to say nor Lorraine Kelly I find her voice and ‘sweetness’ very irritating
I don’t like David Walliams and his smuttiness

Oh I ll think of more

You’re on my wavelength, BlueBelle!

Naga Munchetty - seems to take great delight in making her colleagues feel uncomfortable.
Carol Vorderman
Johnny Depp
Davina McCall
David Walliams
Gino DeCampo
Angela Rayner
I’ve never met any of them and they may be perfectly nice people but they just don’t appeal!

Ilovedogs22 Fri 10-Jan-25 20:24:03

Ohh nann8, you made laugh I won't forget David Rabbitburrow in a hurry! Brilliant 😄

MissAdventure Thu 09-Jan-25 22:37:58

Oh, I quite like her, but then, I've never had to work with her.
Just watch her and read her books.

nanna8 Thu 09-Jan-25 22:14:59

Germaine Greer was another one though my husband actually worked with her years and years ago at Warwick University. No one liked her , very opinionated and unpleasant before she became ‘famous’.

MissAdventure Thu 09-Jan-25 18:03:26

I need to go and find him now. smile

Des is a showman. He's appeared in musicals. Maybe thats why he can't keep still!

Really? I didn't know that. He reminds me of a wedding reception DJ or something like that grin

I've never seen Gavin and Stacey (can't stand James Corden), and the new animal programme with Joanna Page - she spoilt it with her wittering and dithering. She was useless.

Des Coleman the weatherman - why the hell does he keep bending his knees and reaching his arms out?? Just tell us the weather.

hollysteers Thu 09-Jan-25 15:11:25

Jeremy Paxman and the other Jeremy
Simon Cowell
Ant and Dec

Totally true story going back about 20 years when I was in my late 30s.

I was an acting assistant manager of a shop. We had this young Indian woman working with us, in her 20s and she absolutely terrified me! I think she scared other staff too but I was the only one who said anything about her.

She could speak reasonable English but would often try to talk to us in Indian. We had to politely keep explaining that we don't understand what she's saying and to speak only English when she's with us.

She was what I would call a psychic vampire - she literally sucked the energy out of us. She was devastatingly creepy, extremely moany, very odd, very lazy and tried to get us to do her work for her, never smiled, was seriously off. She was never in the shop, only working in the back.

When she wasn't there the rest of us were happy and laughing etc. but as soon as she walked in the atmosphere totally changed and became dark, eerie and ''sinister''.

On various occasions I had the misfortune of being left alone with her and each and every time, with or without other colleagues around, I could feel my knees buckling and I started shaking uncontrollably. I couldn't stand her.

It got to the point where one day she came in, again, creepy and negative. The manager was off duty that day. I shot into the loo and actually burst into fits of tears.

I rang the manager when she was at home and apologized for bothering her but explained the situation and that she'd been scaring us for the past month or so she'd been ''working'' there.

Manager said ''So it's not just me that's scared of her then?!'' This manager was known for being a nasty bully, loud and opinionated but as I was stood there on the phone actually crying and physically shaking she agreed to have a natter with The Vampire next time they're both in.

She did as she promised and The Vampire was a bit better over the next few days.

I left a few weeks later because of The Vampire and once saw her in the street. She tried to come over to talk, still looked and sounded scary but I made a run for it and refused to get anywhere near her! I genuinely believe she was actually evil and I had nightmares about her for weeks after.

Oh I love Des Coleman the weather man. He is so cheerful. I'm always a bit disappointed when it isn't Des reading our weather. Another no to Robbie Williams from me.

TheWeirdoAgain59 Thu 09-Jan-25 14:50:08

Another I can't get anywhere near is Crocodile Dundee's Paul Hogan.

A weird thing to say but he reminds me of white slime!

I won't watch anything with him in it and if I'm watching something and realize he's there I'll immediately switch off!

shysal

This evening I have felt moved to start a new thread about Joanna Page on a wildlife programme. She drove me bonkers!

I must be one of the few people who have never seen Gavin and Stacey!

I have never seen Gavin & Stacey and have never felt I wanted to, so you are not alone shysal

I can't stand Joanna Page or Alison Steadman.

And much as I love wildlife, I couldn't possibly watch Joanna Page on that programme.

MM can be awful, swearing, crude, embarrassing.

Then she can come across as really empathetic and caring.

Sort of Jekyll and Hyde.
