Irrational dislikes of people you don’t know..

Perhaps I shouldn’t introduce this topic, as it could get nasty. I was thinking how I have irrational dislikes of people I see on television whom I don’t know at all. Helen Skelton, Sarah Moore (from Money for Nothing), Meghan used-to-be Markle, Luke Littler. I know nothing about any of these people, but I can’t stand them.

Of course the upside of this is that I have irrational likes as well.

I don't hate but get "unsettled" by people because of their looks, mannerisms and speech
"Step back" people, they makes me recoil
David Bowie looks feral, Jack Nicholson looks not only terrifying but insane.
James Nesbit who played Pontius Pilate with his irremovable "Norn Irn" accent
Lyse Doucet who strangles every innocent vowel she encounters
Lesley Garrett who unleashes her bosom and charges up behind it and is a "singer"???
Woodentops-unmoving Suranne Jones, Christopher Eccleston
But Gordon Ramsay is amazing in his series on US restaurants and swears very little.

I had reason, thanks to my job at the time, to be alone, for about half an hour, with David Bowie on a coach in the 1980s. He was, without a doubt, one of the nicest men I have ever met. No conceit, no looking down his nose at me, just a genuine concern for how the (then being built) Channel Tunnel would affect local people in the vicinity. There was no attempt on his part to talk about him. In fact, I got the impression he was very happy to talk about normal things, and not him. I could have chatted to him for hours! A lovely man.

It may be irrational but it's just one of the many facets of Human Nature.......don't you agree OldFrills?

I know this is a bit different but to look at it from the other persons point of view, it can be really hurtful, confusing and even disturbing to find out that someone you barely know has taken a strong dislike to you for no apparent reason.

Claudia Winkelman. That fringe seems such an affectation that for me it blots out everything else.

(Sorry if mentioned before. Only just seen this thread.

Alison Hammond, she seems to be everywhere.

Sorry for late reply. It’s ‘L your Weekend and is on Saturday AND Sunday! Talk about overkill!
It just gets on my nerves that he is so smug!

I occasionally watch Love Your Weekend but I’ve never taken any notice of the introductions. I can’t say I’ve ever seen the one you describe. I’m intrigued now.

Should say LOVE your weekend. Sorry!

I haven't ploughed through all the previous entries to see if my pet hate has already featured, but here goes anyway: Chris Packham.

I hope Mrs Titchmarsh isn’t on GN.

Just popped the tv on to see what was on tonight, and caught a bit of Good Morning, which I never watch.

Lorraine Kelly was on, screeching away to some comedian.

She now joins Alex Jones as a presenter who shouldn’t be near a screen, with voices that grate.

Kirsty Allsopp (sp?)
Always found her so smug.

He died from bowel cancer that he'd had for ten years.
He was rather a silver fox, now I've looked at some pics of him.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Jan-25 22:48:02

I didn't realise he had died.
He can't have been very old.

I'll have to look it up, I don't know how I missed it.

NY daughter used to really, really like George Alligator.

I had to write his surname as that, because I don't know how its spelt, its pronounced Alli-guy- er, and he's a newsreader.

I liked him too- thought him quite handsome.. your daughter has good taste! I think he’s had cancer.

I don’t like Alan Titchmarsh or Charlie Dimmock either, but I thought everybody liked David Attenborough!

Everyone likes David Attenborough!

lizzypopbottle Mon 13-Jan-25 22:17:18

I seem to be alone in my dislike of Patrick Grant....
Surely someone else on here finds him silly?

merlotgran Mon 13-Jan-25 17:34:42

I used to like Alan Titchmarsh but not any more. The way he sweeps up in that lovely sports car just screeches ‘here I am! Look at me in my beautiful car that most of the people who at church the programme won’t be able to afford’.

I’d really like to know which programme this refers to. Has Alan Titchmarsh presented Songs of Praise or is it the Sunday morning one he does in a barn which I never get around to watching?

Anyone?

MissAdventure Sun 12-Jan-25 23:03:11

I can remember my mum shuddering at Saville, and saying "Oh well, he does do a lot for charity"

Hindsight is a thing - if you watch him, he was all but shouting out what he was up to, its amazing nobody clicked.

gentleshores Sun 12-Jan-25 22:36:49

I'm not sure our dislikes are irrational smile. Once it came out about Jimmy Saville, the numbers of people who said - I knew there was some reason I felt uncomfortable about him.

It's hard to tell with TV though when so many personalities are smarmy. My Mother and Grandmother couldn't stand Bob Monkhouse and there was lots of muttering about it. I could see it as a child as well - there was something a bit leery and inuendo-ish about him!

It really puts my teeth on edge and I don’t watch his programmes now. No, not any of them!
My parents always taught me that I shouldn’t flaunt good luck. Flaunting is exactly what Titchmarch is doing!

Which programme is this please?

Ilovedogs22 Sun 12-Jan-25 14:38:20

I can't stand AlanTitchmarsh!
His voice, his nose, his face,
his voice, his pretentiousness, his attitude, his bloody whiney voice!
Just Him!! basically.
A very little man in green boots that he's far too big for . 🤔

BlueBelle Sun 12-Jan-25 12:55:18

Remember a few more
Elton John can’t stand him
The Osborne’s particular Mrs and Mr

Crossstitchfan Sun 12-Jan-25 12:03:23

That should say ‘who watch the programme’ , and is nothing to do with church!
