wibblywobblywobblebottom Mon 06-Jan-25 12:53:17

Hungry. Nearly lunchtime though.

Golfwidow Mon 06-Jan-25 13:54:58

When asked OH mostly replies ABSOLUTELY average.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 06-Jan-25 14:49:25

An acquaintance of mine, if asked how his wife is, responds with a small pause and then " Well, she's still my wife..."
They have been married for over half a century.

Bazza Mon 06-Jan-25 14:51:59

Chipper.

Grannyjacq1 Mon 06-Jan-25 14:54:21

My dad always said 'still walking and talking'.

thuberon Mon 06-Jan-25 17:19:12

Where I come from the response would be either

Fine

To friends and family it’s always rockin and rollin 😂

Ive had a few medical problems over the last fea years, and continuing, so my usual answer to that tends to be either "still breathing " or something like " still evading the grim reaper so far"

crazyH Mon 06-Jan-25 18:04:00

My usual answer is - not too bad, thankyou

Aveline Mon 06-Jan-25 18:56:52

thuberon- love it. Aberdeenshire area?

Barleyfields Mon 06-Jan-25 19:02:34

My answer is always, whatever my actual circumstances, ‘Fine, thanks’. I know someone who always, without fail, says ‘Not too bad’.

Doodledog Mon 06-Jan-25 19:11:08

My MIL, who is nearly 100, always says she is 'still breathing'.

I tend to say 'I'm bearing up' to people I know, and 'fine thanks' (regardless) to those I don't.

Doodle Mon 06-Jan-25 20:15:51

Sadly these days I either say don’t ask or just plodding on. Not a very joyous response to anyone who takes the trouble to ask.

TheWeirdoAgain59 Tue 07-Jan-25 11:44:54

I always reply with ....

Abnormal this week and subnormal last week!

Peoples faces fall off when I say that!

nanna8 Tue 07-Jan-25 11:55:22

How’re ya goin?
Good.
Good
That’s the way.
(Aussie version ! )

watermeadow Wed 08-Jan-25 07:06:45

I dislike the reply ‘Good’ as I wasn’t asking about their behaviour.
I was brought up to reply, ‘Very well, thank you’. It’s a greeting, not a request for a health bulletin.

Aveline Wed 08-Jan-25 07:11:56

Correct watermelon.

Greenfinch Wed 08-Jan-25 07:24:02

I do consider it as a real request and do not say fine if I am not nor would I ask it of someone who has been recently bereaved or is depressed otherwise words have no meaning. My DH replies “Moderate” or “ As well as can be expected at my age.”

henetha Wed 08-Jan-25 10:05:43

Since I turned 80 a few years ago, my response now is 'I'm still standing'. And sometimes I sing it, - the Elton John song.. grin

DollyD Wed 08-Jan-25 12:27:28

Depends on the age of who is enquiring.
My reply to young ones is (sorry I know some don’t approve)
‘I’m good thanks’, or if an older person ‘I’m well thanks’.
Always cheerfully and with a smile, as in my opinion, nobody likes a miserable old sod.

Kim19 Wed 08-Jan-25 16:43:32

I reply 'I think I'm well. Whoever knows?!'. Is usually amusingly received which is what I aim for.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 08-Jan-25 16:47:45

I often say “it’s too early to tell”.

dragonfly46 Fri 10-Jan-25 09:45:32

I always say I am fine, as at least one part of me is!!

DamaskRose Fri 10-Jan-25 10:00:06

I love some of these! I usually say I’m fine, unless it’s close friend or family. DS usually says “upright and breathing”.
