I always reply with ....

Abnormal this week and subnormal last week!

Peoples faces fall off when I say that!

Doodle Mon 06-Jan-25 20:15:51

Sadly these days I either say don’t ask or just plodding on. Not a very joyous response to anyone who takes the trouble to ask.

My MIL, who is nearly 100, always says she is 'still breathing'.

I tend to say 'I'm bearing up' to people I know, and 'fine thanks' (regardless) to those I don't.

Barleyfields Mon 06-Jan-25 19:02:34

My answer is always, whatever my actual circumstances, ‘Fine, thanks’. I know someone who always, without fail, says ‘Not too bad’.

Aveline Mon 06-Jan-25 18:56:52

thuberon- love it. Aberdeenshire area?

crazyH Mon 06-Jan-25 18:04:00

My usual answer is - not too bad, thankyou

EEJit Mon 06-Jan-25 17:59:44

Ive had a few medical problems over the last fea years, and continuing, so my usual answer to that tends to be either "still breathing " or something like " still evading the grim reaper so far"

petra Mon 06-Jan-25 17:35:28

To friends and family it’s always rockin and rollin 😂

thuberon Mon 06-Jan-25 17:19:12

Where I come from the response would be either

Fine

Nae fine

Affa nae fine

or

No deid yet

Grannyjacq1 Mon 06-Jan-25 14:54:21

My dad always said 'still walking and talking'.

Bazza Mon 06-Jan-25 14:51:59

Chipper.

An acquaintance of mine, if asked how his wife is, responds with a small pause and then " Well, she's still my wife..."
They have been married for over half a century.

Golfwidow Mon 06-Jan-25 13:54:58

When asked OH mostly replies ABSOLUTELY average.

wibblywobblywobblebottom Mon 06-Jan-25 12:53:17

Hungry. Nearly lunchtime though.

poppysmum Mon 06-Jan-25 12:45:25

usually around here its could be worse or well I am still here or alive

mabon1 Mon 06-Jan-25 12:34:27

I always say "fine thank you" I can't stand this "good" I fell as I want to say "good at what?"

grandMattie Mon 06-Jan-25 12:21:14

My late DH would respond with (to my mind impenetrably) “not so dusty”!
I say, “Well. But then I am a very well person…”

NotAGran55 Sun 05-Jan-25 16:53:24

I have a friend who says ‘Still above ground!’ with a hearty laugh.

M0nica Sun 05-Jan-25 16:49:35

My usual reply is 'surviving'.

I had an uncle, whe when asked how he was always replied 'delirious', in a lugubrious tone.

V3ra Sun 05-Jan-25 16:28:48

Round here our usual reply to
"How are you?" is
"Can't complain."
To which both parties then say,
"Well you can, but it won't do any good!"

Cossy Sun 05-Jan-25 15:58:13

Grannybags

Love that!

I was brought up to reply “fine thank you” even if my leg was falling off 😁

Me too 😂😂😂😂

midgey Sun 05-Jan-25 15:51:20

My husband used to say Well at least I’m looking down on the daisies not up!

Grannynannywanny

When my Dad was in his 90’s he would reply “Well I’ve read the paper and there’s no mention of me in the obituary column so that’s a good start to the day!

Best one yet!

Mollygo Sun 05-Jan-25 15:06:28

I like that Aveline.
My Dad used to respond, Alive and kicking! Would probably be taken the wrong way today.
