Have you tried using loom knitting? You end up with a tube which is easy to make into a hat or a snood.
Some time ago, there was an appeal for people to make hats for African babies. They were snowed under!

Good Morning You will guess by the time I am not a great sleeper. My grandson set me a challenge of knitting him a hat, I have not really knitted passed scarves and headbands also never followed a pattern, However after searing for the right pattern and getting it wrong once, My brother in law eventually picked up a pattern from his town Sunderland. The lady said it was easy| My goodness the knitting was just about to be thrown out the window when it started to all fall in place. I am getting there and it beats watching rubbish on TV
