Good morning to you all.

For the 2nd morning in a row we’ve woken up to a light covering of snow. Unlike yesterday today is overcast.

I’m super impressed at how well people with recent hip ops have progressed. I imagined it would entail quite a long period of hospitalisation. I am seeing a hip consultant at the end of the month.

DGS2 is going to nursery 3 days a week now till September when he will start school. Apart from picking up DGD3 after school it’s the end of an era really. We will have him during school holidays I’m sure.

DH booked a cruise with Saga in April. I’m a little unsure about it atm after an appalling experience in 2023. I’m sure it will be fine.

Have a good day everyone.

I hope Marydoll is feeling better and all other poorlies are improving.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from a bitterly cold County Durham.

A day inside out of the cold. The treadmill will come in useful for some light exercise.
The remaining ice on pavements yesterday made my trip out quite scary at times and as the temperatures suggest even colder today it's not worth the risk. Fortunately GC school pick up is made with the car.

As my knitting order has still not arrived, I may look at my sewing stash and see what I can create in fabric instead. I have quite a few new summer dress patterns to try out, or a corded pinafore which was put on hold last Winter.

Yesterday we had a rehearsal with GC for our family Murder Mystery. We're hosting it for my big birthday coming up in Feb. The youngest GC have been given narrative parts, plus handing out evidence of the crime etc. They've also chosen their fancy dress costumes for the occasion. We hope to surprise their parents with their involvement. All good fun!

What glamorous nails FGT. I wish mine were as strong to grow to such a length.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

Morning all from a frosty West Oxfordshire.

It is the WI committee meeting later - I hope to make it clear (once more) that I will not be Secretary after the AGM in March!

After a quick dinner I’ll go to the Local History Society. We will be shown a selection of old photos of the village. I love old photos.

Have a good day.

FG2 I have gone short and dark for my nails 😘

Marydoll Wed 08-Jan-25 08:21:32

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is -2°C. It must have been very cold during the night, because the heating came on.

What a shock for you, Oops.

I had a telephone consultation with a GP yesterday, who was concerned about the length of time I had been unwell, due to the fact it was impacting on my medication. He gave me a prescription for anti nausea medication, they are like gold dust, I felt I had won the lottery!
As always, I can only have five days supply, so I shall be canny with them.

There is a butcher's beside the pharmacy and I picked up a piece of flank mutton to make soup, in the hope that it would tempt my appetite, unfortunately, I forgot about it and it
burned dry!.😡 My concentration has gone to pot.

DD arrived unexpectedly, I think she was trying to save on her energy bill, by coming here .😉
She was made redundant at Christmas, after twenty years with her employer. She regaled me with her tale of her woeful country walk that morning, stuck in a bog, trapped behind a wire fence, losing her earbuds and getting lost! I had forgotten how reckless she can be!

I am becoming stir crazy, but have no energy to go out, This is a positive thing, for I won't be tempted to buy things I don't need in this year"s rubbish sales.

Grammaretto, I hope all goes well with the district nurse and best wishes for all, who are struggling.

Susan56 Wed 08-Jan-25 08:21:04

Good morning from Shropshire.Haven't looked outside yet but it feels cold🥶

Yesterday was awful. My mum was vicious. The staff said it is her illness but it was like seeing my mum from years ago before she mellowed.DH is such a good support to me.I honestly don’t know how I would deal with this without him.

There is a lot of flooding around here so a day at home trying to recover my equilibrium.

Thinking of all recovering from illness and those with mountains to climb.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

Stilllearning Wed 08-Jan-25 08:13:53

Morning from Giffnock where I have ejected the kitten from my bedroom. He’s allowed the run of the house after people are around to keep him safe from the adult cat which he can annoy with his relentless desire to play!

Home later today via the first lunch meeting of the year of our ex exercise class, it will be good to catch up. Then get packed for my visit to Connel family. DD had planned to pick me up in Glasgow but my son in law didn’t get off the North Sea rigg as scheduled so it’ll be my usual 12.30 bus from Buchanan Street tomorrow. I’m quite happy about that as I love immersing myself in the wonderful scenery all the way.

Wishing everyone a good peaceful day and continued progress for Grammaretto and others recovering from surgery or illness.

Liberty Wed 08-Jan-25 08:10:02

Good morning from a dry and frosty Suffolk. It’s my monthly meeting and, unlike normally,it’s in person in Ipswich. I’ve decided to get the train rather than drive as the times are convenient. Just hoping they run as the timetable says!

I get on very well with others on the panel and,as it is a full day meeting,we get to have lunch together. So much better than trying to catch up on a Teams meeting.

Hope all have the best day possible especially those struggling in some way.

Gingster Wed 08-Jan-25 08:08:39

Good morning from a frosty Essex.

Dd will be popping in after school drop off for a coffee and chat and then we’re heading up to town - her to meet friends for lunch in one pub/restaurant and me to meet my ‘other daughter’ in another. ☺️.

Dh will not be fishing 🥶. He had his ears cleared and hearing aids sorted yesterday and it was a pleasure having a conversation with him, without me shouting! I hope today is as good 🤞. I know he’ll take them out when I’m not looking. 😳.

Yesterday’s Bridge club was fun and busy with people bringing in left over mince pies, cakes and chocolates etc. to have with our tea. Oh dear!

Take care all , in this wintery weather.❄️.

brook2704 Wed 08-Jan-25 07:59:04

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve had more light snow overnight and it’s still very white and wintry outside.
I’m off to the hairdressers this morning for a much needed colour and cut, after that a bit of food shopping and call into DD2s
Enjoy your catch up today BlueSapphire and Rosies
Take care travelling all if out and about on the slippery roads
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 08-Jan-25 07:57:26

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry, cold and a bit frosty out. I’m enjoying my mug of TIB after setting the alarm because I have an early morning at the doctor's surgery for my first shingles jab. Apparently you get two, the second will be in a few weeks’ time.

The rest of my day is similar to that of GG13’s yesterday - a manicure this afternoon (ages since I had one and my nails are long - I can’t decide whether to keep them this length or have them snipped) and then it’s the first swimming lesson of the year for L’il Miss at 6pm.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 08-Jan-25 07:57:19

Morning everyone from S E Essex where it’s -1 with a heavy frost ❄️❄️❄️

Off to the gym first thing, eye test this afternoon., fortunately the opticians is only a fifteen minute walk as I cannot drive after having the drops in my eyes.

Then a leisurely hour of no reading or TV before I sort dinner.

Keep warm friends 🙋‍♀️

cornergran Wed 08-Jan-25 07:44:12

Morning Mick, morning All from a cold, frosty corner of Somerset.

Routine, indoor, day today. Dust removal this morning and admin for me this afternoon when Mr C wants to resume battle with a snow scene jigsaw, it’s taking a while to complete!

Pleased you arrived safely ash. Oh heck karma, a tale to tell in the future.

Stay warm and dry everyone. Have the best day you can.

EkwaNimitee Wed 08-Jan-25 07:38:47

Good morning Mick and everyone from clear, very cold Carlisle where it is -2°C. I'm feeling sorry for the workers round here who are having to defrost their cars in the dark and cold every morning before they can get off. I'm snug inside and don't have to go anywhere.

Yesterday I did have to defrost my windscreen as I was determined to get out. I confined myself to going into town as I knew the roads in were gritted. The pavements in the centre were safe too, dry and had been gritted.Although cold, it was a glorious, sunny day, just as winter should be! I did my various errands, treated myself in M&S' Food Hall and then went home. The M&S sales offerings were disappointing, no pretty sweaters to tempt me but lots of glitzy stuff left over from the holidays.
Traffic in town is becoming a nightmare, the whole of the centre is being re-developed. I can't take my usual route out to home but have to go an alternative route which is slow at the best of times but yesterday was practically gridlocked due to all of us having to take it. 4 months of it to go!

The rest of the day was spent on admin, including chasing people to get things done, then I continued reading one of my books.

Today, I will tackle the ironing and wash the floors. I also have to contact the travel insurance company and inform them of my new condition. No doubt there will be more to pay.

What a day, karma! I hope you can please yourself and do happy things today.

And wishing you all a happy day...

Redcar Wed 08-Jan-25 07:38:25

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s getting light and outside it’s -1 and frosty. No snow, not sure if we will have any rain or snow or if it will just be a cloudy day.
After the rain on Sunday our local back road was flooded, then froze, so a couple of minor accidents there yesterday, before the road was closed.
I saw my friend with dementia yesterday, she slept all the time I was there, so I had a chat to her DH instead.
Another resting day for me today, my hip is responding well to being rested. I need to tidy the kitchen and living room in readiness for a visit from my hairdresser later in the week.
Have the best day possible everyone and keep warm in this bitter weather.

GrannyIvy Wed 08-Jan-25 07:28:01

Good morning from a dark -1 Cambridgeshire. No snow.

The flush in the downstairs toilet has been playing up so Monday (we have plumbing cover with British Gas) someone came to fix it. Yesterday when flushing it water wouldn’t stop running in the pan. What a stressful experience on the phone trying to get them back out again, they needed me to pay another call out charge of £60 before they would do it. I refused as it wasn’t fixed properly when they came out!! Anyway they are now coming back out to check it without a further call out charge so let’s see if they fix it today 🤞

If they come early enough I want to go and check my parents grave which is about an hours drive away and call into the local bakery on route for fresh bread.

Wishing everyone a good day

Greyduster Wed 08-Jan-25 07:06:46

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where we it’s -2 outside and a hard frost. I was advised not to come to school yesterday as the roads and pavements around it were like skating rinks. Ditto their car park as it had been unused. I did manage to drive down to the supermarket yesterday afternoon. I had a long chat with an old friend last night which was fun. Not sure what I’m going to do today - writers group is off until the weather improves, and I still have to get up to the hospital for an X-ray but might leave it until next week. It’s not urgent.
Glad you arrived safely, Ash.
Have the best day possible folks.

RosesandLilac Wed 08-Jan-25 07:02:32

Good morning, a very cold -4° spot in south Glos where temperatures probably won’t get above freezing today ☹️
Yesterday people struggled to even get off our small estate because of the ice and snow.
I gave the kitchen a thoroughly good clean and tidy up, it wasn’t dirty just muddled with things out on the tops that I should have put away etc.
I have to take my car 18 miles to the garage for servicing this morning, no roads are gritted for the first 6 miles so no looking forward to that.
I will wait while it’s done so I must take a book.
A dog walk later, more needlework and another quiet day here.
Stay warm 🌹

kittylester Wed 08-Jan-25 06:43:30

Good morning all from a very cold North Leicestershire.

I have no idea how the floods are but I am not planning on going anywhere today. On the other hand, DH is going to the gym and then doing a volunteer drive.

Our cleaner is due this morning and, as she lives in the same village, I expect her to arrive on time. We are desperately in need of a spruce up.

Have the best day possible everyone.

BlueSapphire Wed 08-Jan-25 06:42:33

Good morning everyone from a still dark Northampton; the forecast is for dry and sunny weather today, which is lovely as I am off on the bus to Milton Keynes. And that is why I am up early, as I need to get a bus into town shortly after 9am before a bus at 10 to MK.

A pleasure awaits when I get to MK, as I am meeting RosiesMaw for coffee and a catch-up. We always find lots to talk about and it will be lovely to see her again.

Then I need to return something to Fatface, and hopefully find a birthday present for DD, before a browse around other shops.

Had a good group walk yesterday afternoon - and it was a big group too, 19 of us in all; I think it was our largest ever group. Good to see everyone again,.and also many new faces. We only walk for an hour, but find that enough for me - did two and a half miles, and was ready for coffee and cake afterwards!

Hope all have a pleasant day.

Grammaretto Wed 08-Jan-25 06:39:21

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Minus 3°C snow on snow. It's due to drop to minus 15 tomorrow.
I am so glad I'm sleeping in my cosy
sitting room. The kitchen is so cold I don't need a fridge!

Oh Karmalady I hope you'll laugh about this in future. 😂
I'm sure your visitor was just happy to see you.

Well done gMattie on your
marmalade and happy days hearing from your DS.
I heard from DS in NZ who s on holiday in a fairly remote area but their Campervan has broken down so they don't know how they'll get home. 😟

I am due a visit this morning from the Health Visitor who will change my dressing and check me over.

A friend is bringing us both a takeaway
from the community lunch. 😋

Enjoy the day everyone, as best you can.

Bellasnana Wed 08-Jan-25 06:32:23

Good morning from a windy Malta where the high today is going to reach 16°C and fall to 9°C.

Glad to hear you made it safely to France, Ash.

Today is the anniversary of my father’s death in 1966. Such a long time ago but his family continues to grow.

Have a good day. all. ☀️

Bonnybanko Wed 08-Jan-25 06:28:11

Good morning all from a very dark and cold day here on the east coast of Fife. My ring doorbell is on charge and I’ve no idea whether it’s snowed during the night or not.
Today I’m going to make lentil soup, take the Christmas tree down, store it in the downstairs cupboard for another year, put all my paperwork in order with help from my lovely carer. I’ll have bacon and eggs for breakfast, soup for lunch and maybe a Chinese for dinner, but who knows, things can change in a nano second.

Have a safe day my friends and be kind .

Oopsadaisy1 Wed 08-Jan-25 06:23:17

Good morning, we are expecting a cold day today, let’s hope it stays dry.

I need to be on the phone at 8am to try to see a Nurse about my toe as it still isn’t healing.

My MRI was fine though, which obviously is good, but it doesn’t explain the dizzy spells, fingers crossed I don’t get any more, I’ve only just recovered from my last bout and still haven’t been able to drive yet.

I spent a lot of time on Ancestry yesterday as the 1921 Census has been released in their site.
Pity that Mum was born a month after the census date!
Found my Dad though, living in a 3 bedroom terrace ( all knocked down now) with his Grandparents, parents, 2 uncles and Aunt and his 2 brothers, heaven knows how they managed, at the time Dad was a baby and all the others were unemployed, although the shipyard Company was named as their Employer, on strike or laid off maybe?
Anyway a very enjoyable afternoon for me.
Sad news of the sudden death of someone we took out to lunch just before Christmas, a chest infection that escalated within one week, such a shock to get the phone call.

Apart from the Surgery visit ( hopefully) I will spend some more time looking for past relatives on the Census.

Have a good day everyone, let’s hope the weather is kind to us and that all poorly grans or their families feel a bit better today.

grandMattie Wed 08-Jan-25 06:12:53

Good morning from Bristol. Not looked out so have no idea of the weather.
I hope that the GMmersbin the north are not having too many problems with the weather.
Walking in the light snow yesterday, I passed the greengrocers’s where I noticed some lovely fat Seville oranges. Guess how I spent the rest of the day? Also, I need to make a lot as I have my second cataract operation next Tuesday and shan’t b3 allowed to bend over for a fortnight, no heavy lifting for a month….
Had a surprise short chat with DS, which was lovely. He’s applied for a job in Tanzania and is hoping to hear from them soon. Sadly it isn’t in north Italy, but he’s keeping an eye open for that and will apply if one comes up there.
Today is full on, with morning prayers and FAB cafe in the morning then my library book group in the afternoon.
