Cleaning hair brushes

If they are plasticbrushes I put them inthe dishwasher not with dirty plates but with dusty decorative plates mugs and bowls of which I can easily finda dishwasher load.

I wondered if it was hairspray residue?

I brush them against each other to get rid of hair then soak in warm water with a good squirt of shampoo in it, swish around then scrub with an old toothbrush.

I soak in bicarb & use a nit comb. I even used a high pressure water flosser on to get rid of the ingrained fluff.

Try scrubbing with an old toothbrush.

Scrape all the old hair out with a comb and put it in the cutlery basket of the dishwasher!! Unconventional but it works!

My Mum showed me how to clean brushes. Dissolve some soda crystals in hot water. Dunk the brushes and all the debris comes off.

Thanks for these replies. I'll try the hair dryer idea but the dust seems to stick like glue.

As the dust builds up over a month it would not be feasible to buy new ones each time this happens. Bristle brushes are expensive, and mine has a varnished wooden handle so I couldn't put it on a boil wash.

Happy to hear other ideas that might help.

I put mine in an old pillowcase and wash them on a boil wash with the towels.

I do the same as paddyann54 seems to work well.

Have you tried blowing a hair dryer over them? I tend to clean brushes by brushing one against the other to get any hair off and hold them over the hair dryer to clear dust then swish them through a sink full of soapy water

Bicarbonate of soda breaks down the oils and the build up of hair products we put on our hair.

If you are unable to get them clean I know what I would do,
buy new ones.

Try a narrow paintbrush with fairly stiff bristles.
