I never thought I would start a Meghan and Harry thread but...... had gone

It was reported today that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had gone to Los Angeles to give comfort and food to those affected by the dreadful wildfires there.

My immediate reaction was revulsion that well known celebrities, let alone this pair, should think visiting somewhere, quite some distance from where you live that is undergoing a horrendous catastrophe, which you can do nothing to alleviate, would benefit from your presence, hugging and talking to people, and, of course, being photographed doing so.

I understand that they have offered to house someone who has been burnt out. That shouldn't be too difficult, there are plenty of A listers who have been burnt out.

The release date for Meghan’s lifestyle show has been moved to March 4th.

A wise decision.

I hope you are right

You know I'm not they're not their greatest fan but on this occasion I think their intentions are good.

I don’t do tittle tattle. Best you find videos of their Oprah interview and some of their many other interviews

We know and thst was wrong. I disagreed strongly with what they did.

However, I think on this occasion their intention are good.

Disgusting thread.. Cali people support each other .. shame on people who see the worst in humanity when humanity is shown.

Agree !

JFC. You are up in arms because 2 people, who live near an area where a disaster is taking place, are HELPING? People who did not, in fact, take their own camera crew, have invited others around the world to donate and are taking in people who were affected by the fire.

People are loosing lives and homes. Everything they own. And your first response is to feel revulsion because someone you don't even know is helping them. The lack of empathy and compassion in some of these posts is striking.

I hope everyone here who are complaining has done what they can to help those in the LA area.

Macadia Sun 12-Jan-25 20:18:35

Quite sickening that you would try to shame two people for being charitable during a terrible disaster in an area where they once lived. It wasn't a "photo shoot moment". This thread is brewing with hate and that is wrong IMO. I, personally, have not helped others yet, in the LA predicament.

I do hate this cynicism - they would have been criticised if they had done nothing. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Totally agree with your sentiments.
👏👏👏

Can't do right for doing wrong!

Last comment directed at poster who has removed their post! No wonder people get confused!!

Are you being deliberately obtuse? Just wondered!

True Smileless, they chose to speak the lies, and whilst I don’t expect republicans to understand, their treatment of the late
Queen and Prince Phillip was brutal for many, many people

How did they treat Late Queen&Prince brutally, in your opinion? Honestly asked, such tidbits are not reported in The Economist.

I avoid little tittle tattle, except here on GN. smile

No, it would not have occurred to me or, I suspect many other people to make any comment if they had not visited.

In fact it wouldn't have occurred to me that they would even think of visiting. I generally have little interest in the private lives of private people. It was the shock of the total inappropriateness of this visit and that they would even consider doing it that led to this thread.

Exactly Annie and they only have themselves to blame for any criticism they receive.

Anniebach Sun 12-Jan-25 19:45:35

We know what they said

TBF those who criticise them do so based in what we do know about them.

Valid. I suspect many of us actually know nothing of them.

Anniebach Sun 12-Jan-25 19:40:37

I criticise them for what they have said, not for anything in the press or social media

He (or she) who is without sin……..There are plenty of stones flying here.
What does it benefit anyone, or ourselves, to criticise and disparage those we don’t know on social media?

Is it the feeling of bonding with like minded souls I wonder?
I’m really interested in motivation.

Many feel the same MOnica I certainly was shocked to see them there

Louella12 Sun 12-Jan-25 18:26:19

Nobody would have cared a jot had they not turned up. They aren't really on most people's radar.

They need to do their best to keep in the public eye. Things haven't been going very well for them.

It's been mentioned that Meghan's Netflix show might have to be postponed from its airing next week. Hardly the time to see beautiful people picking beautiful flowers and making unreal Victoria Sandwiches in California.

M0nica Sun 12-Jan-25 18:20:45

Farzanah, No, not another opportunity to knock them. But I was genuinely shocked to see the photographs of them glad handing the crowds in Pasadena. I would have been equally shocked if it had been any other celebrity, who just breezed through when the emergency was at its height.

Yes, official Royal family members do visit disaster sites, but only when arranged and invited and not while the emergency is going on.

I generally have little interest in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they are meant to be private people leading a private life, but this new item really shocked me by its inappropriateness.
