When did you last clean your shoes?

Some years ago I bought all my AC a very fancy shoe cleaning box with contents from Jones the Bootmaker. It has lovely brushes, cloths and several different polishes, and the box is rather nice too. Not sure any of them have ever used any of the contents!

I don't...trainers and sandals, my boots are suede so get brusshed

It will be something which evaporates quickly and leaves a residue

I wash my trainers in the machine and hang on the line when they’re grubby. Then I spray them with Hotter shoe protector. I always live in boots during the winter so I give them all a good clean at the start of autumn, discarding any I’ve not worn the previous year. With shoes, I tend to look at them and if necessary give them a quick wipe over with Pledge and a duster, but not suede of course.

I only ever wear Skechers, and if they get really messy I stick them in the washing machine.

I do too but sadly they do not stay waterproof once washed.

I actually enjoy polishing shoes. I don't have many that need polishing, but when I pull out the shoe polish box, there are 2 brushes each for black, brown, neutral and burgundy. One for polish, one to shine. Also a soft brush for suede.

I have to say my burgundy Blundstones look brand new after about 6 years.

When my son dropped by wearing work boots, I took them off for a clean up while he visited DH. It felt very satisfying! Young people tend not to look after their footwear.

You can buy navy shoe cream.

Meltonian cream shoe polish is still available in loads of colours, you can order from them direct online - I ordered some to renovate a bag a few months ago.

Foxie, I can imagine how difficult it must have been to give up riding. It seems that you were doing serious stuff!
Just to pick up the thread, this morning I treated an old pair of lace-up boots with dubbin. They are a bit Jane Austeny and I love them.
(By the way, I think that zips on lace-up shoes or boots are an abomination.)

I’ve just come back from a short walk round the culdesac, in my good old faithful, 10+ year old suede, fur lined boots. I give them a wipe-over now and then. That’s it. Same with my shoes

O H cleaned his shoes with the liquid sponge on cleaner. At the airport everyone had to take off their shoes --remember the shoe bomber? We sat for ages waiting for his shoes to be returned. When our flight was called there was a panic to find his shoes. Their sensors had detected something which might have been explosive. Just made the flight.
SO don't use liquid cleaner if you are going on a plane.

DH had his shoes (trainers) cleaned with disinfectant by airport staff before entering Australia. There may have been just a bit of dirt stuck in the ridges in the sole and it was during the UK foot and mouth outbreak.

I polished a leather handbag today.
It was on a pile of stuff to throw out, it's in perfect condition but the leather had scuffed so it needed a polish before it went to the charity shop.
Lo and behold, I found some navy cream in the shoe cleaning kit, which was still soft.

The handbag looks so good now I decided to keep it. 😀

I last cleaned a pair of shoes a week ago after falling in the ice even though it was on a grass area and finished up with dog poo on them, my coat and trousers also had to be washed. My inconsiderate neighbours had not picked the 💩 up.

Prefer not to say, too embarrassing. Always notice they need a clean when in the dentist chair!

I clean my shoes after every wear. Cannot bear dirty shoes.

I clean shoes boots etc every time I wear them they finish off overall appearance if going out socially.
We live in a very woody area and each time I go out with our dog my boots need a good clean.

I wear leather boots and clean them often using polish and brush. Trying to get coloured leather shoe polish has been difficult lately. I finally found an old cobbler shop with everything I needed and was really pleased. I honestly don’t think many people do clean shoes now as lots wear fabric shoes that can be washed.

Can you remember being pressed to buy shoe cleaner/polish when you bought a new pair of shoes or boots in specialist shoe shops?
They were very expensive and I think the staff were told to hard sell the products.
