She and Peter Murrell are divorcing.
I wonder who gets to keep the campervan?

“She is now in the winter of her first-ministership, which is all too apparent, but the personal commitment she has shown to her job over the past nine years, the steadiness with which she has carried on in what at times have been difficult and draining circumstances, the burden she has uncomplainingly borne, is not to be lightly dismissed. She has shown greater personal integrity than Boris Johnson, more skilful management of her party than Theresa May, and, well, better everything than Liz Truss.” Chris Deerin in The New Statesman 20 January 2023

To criticise politicians’ policies is one thing but to make unsubstantiated comments about personal motivation and character strikes me as unworthy. The article I quote above ultimately regards Nicola Sturgeon’s political career as a failure but it gives her the respect that I think she is due.

It amazes me that people think a marriage breaking up is an excuse for bitchy comments. Politics is one thing, say whatever you like about that, but the end of a marriage? Seriously?

Brought about by their own shenanigans so hard to feel sorry for them.

I must be clutching my pearls as Rosie’sMaw suggests. I’ve got no problem with anybody criticising any politicians for their political actions or bad decisions. For me, making fun of their marriage woes is off limits, there has to be a dividing line between public and private lives.

Val McDermid. She writes excellent books.

At the time of the arrest of her husband, NS stated that she knew nothing about the financial skullduggery that had taken place. If this is true, then she has been horribly let down, deceived, and had her career ruined. I too might consider ditching the husband.

Oh for goodness’ sake!
I thought the camper van reference was quite funny- worthy of HIGNFY or Private Eye.
Some pearls are too readily clutched and virtue signalled hmm

👏👏👏🤣🤣

Yes. That marriage has been over for years. This announcement is obviously to deflect negative comment on her after Moira Salmond had to make a public plea for her to stop bad mouthing Alex. I hate seeing these nasty PR stunts.

woodenspoon Mon 13-Jan-25 20:11:12

Apparently she is living with a female author and her wife in Edinburgh, so reports say. Cosy.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jan-25 20:08:30

A report is imminent. Any decade now I’d expect….

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jan-25 20:01:42

Thomas Ross, another leading KC, said earlier this month: “It’s not accurate to say, so far as Mr Murrell is concerned, that it can go on forever. The clock is definitely running so far as he’s concerned.

Nobody in the public eye or being paid by the public purse is beyond criticism and I expect Boris Johnson had his turn when in the limelight for criticism on this forum, if he hasn’t this is a very odd forum.

I don't think Mr. Johnson was or is honourable. But cricitise him here at your peril.

How is he involved?

Because it seems bizarre that it's OK to be highly unpleasant about some people and yet others are deemed above criticism.

I really felt for the man when he was clearly so ill. As a human being, I felt empathy.

On the wrong thread?😁
There’s nothing about Johnson here.

"“With a heavy heart I am confirming that Peter and I have decided to end our marriage. To all intents and purposes we have been separated for some time now and feel it is time to bring others up to speed with where we are.

“It goes without saying that we still care deeply for each other, and always will. We will be making no further comment.”

‘Still care deeply about one other’ but not enough to live together it seems.
Maybe they blamed each other for what happened.

If you read through GN posts, there are endless criticisms of BJ, some justified, some not.
Mind you, if you read through GN historical posts, there’s plenty of criticism of NS too.
But criticise any of the current government . . .

woodenspoon Mon 13-Jan-25 19:29:34

Has he got a campervan Jean? I never knew that.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jan-25 19:19:44

Will it get used then, or sold?

woodenspoon Mon 13-Jan-25 19:19:16

Midlife crisis? Going campervanning around Scotland or Europe? Could be a possibility. Off grid.

No idea about the campervan Allira.
Maybe charges are imminent - hence the divorce statement?

It belongs to the SNP.
I think it is back with the Party but is only worth half its original value now.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jan-25 19:13:05

😂 it’s probably in a Police compound somewhere, depreciating in value. “Battle Bus” that never got used. All very strange.

woodenspoon Mon 13-Jan-25 19:09:43

Maybe one of them have hit the road in the camper van?

I don't think she is a very honourable politician or person. I don't know enough about her husband, other than his arrest for alleged financial issues.
Her treatment and disregard of 51% of the Scottish population will be her lasting legacy.
