What do you carry in your handbag

Following on from the cost threads.

I posted that I only carry a cross body purse almost all the time.

So I only really have room for cards, cash, car/house keys and at a real squash phone.

But I can’t really think what else is necessary?

Phone, keys, cash purse, credit card holder, travel pass, tissues, hairbrush, compact, lipstick, paracetamol, paper bag to breathe into in case of panic attack, a couple of antiseptic wipes, plasters, hearing aid batteries, contact lenses in case I break my glasses, phone charger, separate wire for charging phone on the train in case I lose my phone charger, plastic bag for shopping, piece of string, pen, tiny notebook and finally a pair of scissors, because my father always told me to carry a weapon.

My weapon is a can of deep heat spray!

I rarely use a handbag unless invited to some function such as a wedding or a christening,

Any bag I do take with me has hankies, purse, reading glasses, plasters as I tend to get blisters on my feet, safety pins and a small foldable shopping bag.

I keep my house-keys in my jacket or coat pocket, along with my passport if I intend crossingh the Danish-German border, as German law requires you to have proof of your identity on you at all times (I have never been asked to show it, though).

I only take my phone with me, if I am going to collect a parcel from the post, or a book from the library.

One thing that always goes in my bag is a small bottle of water.
I don’t go anywhere without one.

Plus all the usual stuff. I don’t carry a purse anymore as mine is very bulky, but put most used cards in my phone case.
Tissues also are a must.

Knittypamela Tue 21-Jan-25 14:52:54

Purse, store cards and coupons, comb, mirror, lip balm, tissues, wipes, glasses, and two aspirin in case someone has a heart attack!

MaggsMcG Tue 21-Jan-25 14:52:23

All sorts of things. I tend to give it a bit of a tidy if it feels its getting too heavy. LOL

Rather than a handbag, I use my son's rainproof rucksack (which he left behind on moving).
In my terribly ladylike fashion!
I carry, a purse, poo bags, folding mirror duel- brush thingy, a canvas bag for spontaneous tat purchases &
rather grotty, witch-like glove's (that quite honestly need a good wash.) 🥴

Labradora Tue 21-Jan-25 14:08:06

I don't carry a bag.

My keys, tiny purse, bus pass and bank card are all in one or the other of the zipped up, pockets of my coat.

I don't seem to need anything else.

grannyqueenie Tue 21-Jan-25 13:45:09

Too much is answer and this conversation is doing nothing to lessen the weight of my already full bag. That’s because I’ve noted a few items like Marydoll’s “emergency chocolate” that I’m very tempted to add into the mix…..!hmm🤦‍♀️

Blinko Tue 21-Jan-25 13:41:26

I carry a cross body purse, so Phone, house key, credit cards, pen, travel pass.

Aprilgem Tue 21-Jan-25 13:35:56

Keys, purse, tissues, foldable shopping bag and hand wipes. If I'm doing shopping trips or visit another town. Just in case, I add sanitary towels, water, paracetamol and small biscuits pack. Ha, reading others.. I'm going to add knickers and socks.

Boz Tue 21-Jan-25 13:19:57

It depends on lifestyle. About my own business, I am always in a car, which is my 'glory hole'. Like many others, I only really need my phone to tap through the day. I like the old trouser pocket for the essential lippy and tissue. Proper handbag only used when out with H or family.

Mollygo Tue 21-Jan-25 13:07:50

Keys, purse, tissues, phone charger, lipstick.

Cateq Tue 21-Jan-25 13:03:53

My everyday bag holds a couple of cards, my phone and some coins. My DH regularly questions why I don’t use some of my other bags, as they would hold everything I need.

cookiemonster66 Tue 21-Jan-25 13:01:06

The kitchen sink! due to my anxiety I need to bring anything in case of emergencies!
4 torches - in case one does not work!
mini first aid kit including pills like antihistamine, pain killers, indigestion tabs.
phone charger and phone
spare knickers and sanitary pads for incontinence
radar key and proof of disability
tic tacs for fresh breath
lippy
hearing aid box and batteries
glasses case
water drink bottle
purse

It gets so heavy seriously but I panic if I do not have those things because you can guarantee I will need them if I do not bring it

M0nica

wallet, filofax, little bag containing comb, small mirror, inhaler, emergency medication (paracetamol, ibuprofen, and cocodamol(for migraine), nail scissors, nail file. Driving glasses, torch, fold away shopping bags and paper tissues.

I do not put keys in my handbag. Long ago we had a security talk at work and the police advised us never to do that, so that, even if our handbag was stolen we could get into our home and did not need to change the locks, so keys are in my pocket.

Like the idea re carrying keys separately, never occurred to me before although pockets not often deep enough not to worry about losing them.

Elowen33 Tue 21-Jan-25 12:48:11

In winter I tend to wear a coat with pockets so do not use a bag, just my phone, a tissue and keys.

mabon1 Tue 21-Jan-25 12:44:11

Purse, phone, house keys, pack of tissues, biro and a little note book (together with many receipts from various stores but I do dredge the handbag occasionally.

poppysmum Tue 21-Jan-25 12:43:03
