Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but dry here at the moment in brackley this morning.
My usual morning bus trip to Bicester to shop and maybe chat to people I know.
Had a plumber fix my systern yesterday ,having reported it to the manager of where I live the previous afternoon as it had been dripping .
Health wise OK , take care,
Mick

Good morning from County Durham. The storm will be heading our way tomorrow so we'll check around outside and make sure everything is fastened down. Our neighbours fence is very wobbly. It will be lucky to survive this one.

A quiet day yesterday, my parcels were sorted for a RM collection which never appeared. My mistake but all corrected now.

My knitting project is going well. Only another seven snowman hats to go. I think I could make them with my eyes closed now. The fiddly parts, eyes, nose, pom poms will probably take up the most time. At least I'll be able to pack them away well in advance of that "C" word coming round again!

We're popping out once my parcels are collected. A drive, then some lunch to break up the day.

So sorry to hear about your eye problems madelaine. You've had a terrible time lately. Fingers crossed things are not as bad as they initially seem for you.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

… but just feel as though whatever i do it is such a battle and I never seem to win

Oh Madeleine poor you this morning! The shock yesterday has knocked you off your perch dear lady. But hold tight. It’s fixable. Temporary setbacks which you WILL overcome. In the meantime enjoy the coffee and the Bach … and breathe. x

RosesandLilac Thu 23-Jan-25 07:58:51

Good morning from soggy south Glos where it’s drizzling, a wet dog walk this morning. I don’t actually mind because I have decent waterproofs and boots and the dog definitely doesn’t mind the weather.
Yesterday I almost finished an embroidery I started a while ago, I should finish it today. Sewing group this afternoon, looking forward to seeing my friends again.
Hugs to those in turmoil, hoping things brighten up soon 🌹

Liberty Thu 23-Jan-25 07:58:04

Good morning from the now expected dull Suffolk which is chillier than yesterday.

So sorry Madeleine to hear of your distress yesterday. Like others I hope that you get better news on Monday but a worrying few days for you until then.

Off to my stretch class in about an hour and then our cleaners will do their magic later. They are 2 young girls who are both excellent at what they do and adored by the dog so a positive time for all.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 23-Jan-25 07:56:34

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s just getting light. There was a beautiful orange glow to the west when I put the kettle on, outlining the Pennine ridge. It’s chilly out but dry at least and not windy (yet).

I have a hair appointment at 11am. Roots need doing & few more highlights I think. Just a trim then blow.

I’ve started my book club read. Kindle tells me it’ll take 27 hours (I’m a slow reader, it started out saying 11 hours then recognised my pace, ha!).

We may eat out tonight. Have a date night at our favourite Italian. We will decide later - only it’s Man. Utd -v- Rangers in the Europa League this evening. ⚽️. Who knew? 😂

Good morning everyone from Spain with hazy sunshine and a gentle breeze
Pleased you both still enjoyed the cake greyduster!
A walk around the interesting old town today, there’s lots of pretty squares with fountains and flowers, ideal for just sitting with a coffee and watching the world go by
Madeline that’s difficult for you, hope things improve soon
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

luluaugust Thu 23-Jan-25 07:41:45

Good morning from W Kent where I have to get the shopping done but otherwise a quiet day.
Grey glad the cake was salvageable and enjoyed
Madeleine I have just had my first cataract done and if that is what is offered grab it, you could be driving again soon.
Best wishes to all

Georgesgran Thu 23-Jan-25 07:36:00

Good morning from a dark Durham. Rain forecast and a severe warning for wind.
I’m taking SinL into Newcastle today - she’s a serious shopper. I’m not, but I don’t mind going, once in a while. Fish and chips tonight, so no cooking.

💐Madeleine. I’ve no idea how cataracts are judged. My friend (the hypochondriac) has been referred immediately to a private clinic (under the NHS) says she can barely see, yet no recommendations about her driving. I hope you get it sorted soon.

Best wishes to all. X

Jennynanna Thu 23-Jan-25 07:33:31

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Jan-25 07:30:26

Morning all, it’s dark here in my little corner of S E Essex

The 9yr old is eating his egg and bacon sandwich, I am having my first cup of tea, and DH has gone back to bed 🤷‍♀️

The 9yo has basketball at 8am so it’s an early start for him.

Nothing at all planned for today (I adore these days)

Oh dear greyduster 🙀🎂

Madeleine hopefully you can have your cataracts removed soon (((hugs)))

Enjoy your day dear friends 🙋‍♀️

Good morning everyone from a very dull and grey Northampton, rain forecast later, but I need to try and get to the shops for my top-up shop.

A quiet enjoyable day in yesterday; the morning was taken up with preparing a huge Bolognese for the slow cooker, and then once it was gently cooking away I managed to clean the bathrooms and mop the en-suite floor. Also got the towels and bath mat washed, although they had to go in the tumble dryer.

In the afternoon I contacted a recommended plumber to supply and fit a new shower in my en-suite, and to fix the leak in the family bathroom shower. They will get in touch with me to arrange an appointment. My usual plumber was not interested so won't be using him again.

I started the first Rev Richard Coles murder book yesterday, and thought I wasn't going to like it, but I am now 80 pages in, so I guess it's ok!

Sainsbury's delivery late morning. Then four portions of Bolognese to put in the garage freezer.
Must ring the vets to make an appointment for the cats' annual check-up and vaccinations. I now have dates when DS is free to take me.
Then after lunch hopefully get to the shops.
Macaroni cheese to make when I get back home.

What a shock for you yesterday, Madeleine . A real problem when you rely on your car to do everything. Good luck with the re-testing on Monday.

Hope all have a good day.

Marydoll Thu 23-Jan-25 07:27:44

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it isc2°C.

What a shock for you Madeleine. I have slow growing cataracts and for that reason, have to have an annual eye exam. I am surprised your optician didn't suggest monitoring it. Every single time I go, my prescription changes to accommodate them. An expensive business indeed, for I wear varifocals.
I hope the news isn't as bad as you fear on Monday.

Yesterday, I was the only person in the hairdresser's, so sat on chatting to the hairdresser and owner. The hairdresser had been melting a Camembert cheese, took it out of the microwave, it exploded and covered her hair, hands and hair in melted cheese. She had small burns everywhere. A very lucky escape from serious injury.
The haircut cut was slightly different, but I do like it.

Babydoll will be here soon to wreak havoc, so I must get moving. I don't know what our plans are, because of the rain. We like to get her out for a walk, but I don't fancy getting soaked, because my cough is back with a vengeance and I can feel the beginning of a chest infection.🤬 I feel pretty ropey to say the least.

Greyduster, what a disaster! *
Bella, enjoy your time with your friend.
GM, have you thought of emailing your homework to your PC and enlarging the print?

Have a pleasant day folks, whatever your plans.

Grammaretto Thu 23-Jan-25 07:23:52

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. -1°C , rain expected.
A Burns lunch today with U3A. I'm going to ask for a lift.

I have to move out of this lovely room today as its ceiling is to be
painted tomorrow starting at 7am!

I only managed half my sewing class yesterday but I've cut out the pieces. I'm making pyjamas.

So sorry Madeleine that will have been a shock about your eyesight and the other things compounding the situation.

Greyduster your poor cake!
My DS brought me some soup he'd made but told me he'd had to brake suddenly and the dog jumped off the car seat into the soup.....but there was still plenty left 🤣😂

Hoping everyone has a good day.

cornergran Thu 23-Jan-25 07:22:24

Morning Mick, morning All from a damp, draughty corner of Somerset. Forecast is for strong winds and much rain.

After a fraught journey, an extra hour because of roadworks, enjoyed catching up with a friend yesterday. Not sure about today, see what the day brings.

I’m sorry you have more to deal with madeleine flowers. Oops greyd.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Kalu Thu 23-Jan-25 07:13:51

Kalu Thu 23-Jan-25 07:08:28

Oh no Grey what a disaster with the cake! Straight out of a comedy sketch, a memory you and your DD will chuckle over each time you recall it. 😂

Greyduster Thu 23-Jan-25 07:06:45

Madeleine💐

Mizuna Thu 23-Jan-25 07:06:30

Oh Greyduster, your poor cake! It's the sort of thing that I could laugh about though if it happened to me.

Wonderfully windy and wet here in Cornwall, exciting, but not even a glimmer of light yet on my patio mirrors.

Yesterday I collected my youngest grandchildren from school and thrilled the nine-year-old by telling her we could make something with concrete next time she comes round. We had been examining concrete pillars in the playground, containing pieces of plastic. She informed me that there were going to be high winds. Her teacher had told the class. I'm hoping it was part of a geography lesson not scaremongering...

Today I must source the concrete as my last bag went solid while I was recovering from my knee replacement, but before that I'll be sewing lace around the hem of a reconstructed denim skirt.

kittylester Thu 23-Jan-25 07:05:32

Good morning all from a chilly North Leicestershire.

Another early start as we have to take the little car to have the radio sorted. Then we have stuff to do in Leicester before coming home to watch last night's Traitors - DJ fell asleep 10 minutes in.

madeleine45 Thu 23-Jan-25 06:59:34

good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark and still north yorkshire .Cant even see the shape of the tree yet. I am a little better than yesterday, but still feel close to tears and have not yet started to think in a pracitcal manner.

Sorry if I told you yesterday, but am in rather a daze. I went for my eye test, not expecting any problems. They told me about 3 years ago that I had very small cataracts, but they did not alter, I only changed my reading glasses for a very small amount, and was ok to drive. Expecting similar I went for the test that has been delayed by all the moving about with the bathroom and then she said that my eyesight was not good enough to drive, that I have cataracts that have grown in both eyes and so have to go back for proper testing on monday but no driving now. until they tell me what next.

I had moved here partly to be able to get around if there was eye problems so that is good that I will be able to get round the town or go on the train, but it was such a shock with no warning.

I have felt quite numb and near to tears and as yet not been able to think properly about how I shall manage at the moment. Partly because my back is so painful and lately I have only been able to go to the shops in the car , when I can park close to the shops etc.

To make maters worse my mobility scooter will not go. Have arranged for it to be picked up and taken to be looked at tomorrow, so if that is sorted at least I can use that but just feel as though whatever i do it is such a battle and I never seem to win.

My bank is closing and have to change that to keep one in the town. I enjoyed playing whist once a week in a little village, but to go in a taxi £5 there and the same back it becomes ridiculous to pay £14 for an evenings game but it is the good crowd and the company. But at the moment cant even think of another player who lives anywhere near me that I could have a lift with as we are in a rural area and people come from all over

I tried to speak to my son last night but cant get in touch with him as he is driving down to Yeovil I think. Thankyou for being here, I am sorry to be such a misery , and I know that I will work out what to do in a bit but right now just feel in a state about it and wish that the days were lighter. Too dark and cold to go out for a little walk even if my back let me. Oh well things can only improve I suppose. I shall improve matters right now, by making a decent cup of coffee and listen to Bach before 7. Everything seems better with that combination. Hope you all have a decent day and that the promised storm is not as bad as they have said

Kalu Thu 23-Jan-25 06:59:03

Good morning all. Rain has returned as has winds of up to 25mph and 2deg. In Glasgow today.

On the hunt for a new gardener and window cleaner plus a local company to repair my Miele vacuum. I found a few for mostly Dyson etc but so far no luck for mine. Hairdresser at 3.00pm, Sod’s Law it is raining followed by a Waitrose shop. Yesterday afternoon was spent tidying up my filing system, shredding the old paperwork and replacing with the new. I had procrastinated long enough and now that it’s done, it’s a relief to have a sense of order once again. A huge ✔️ off my to do list.

How lovely to have the opportunity of catch ups with your friend and her DH Bella.

Best wishes to all for a good day especially to those struggling on with worries and illness.

Greyduster Thu 23-Jan-25 06:50:46

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire with what looks to be a light frost. Yesterday I went over to DD’s and took her some flowers and the birthday cake I had made her. She came down the drive to meet me, relieved me of the cake, the handle on the carrier broke and the cake fell on its head, in what was left of the carrier. It was still in one piece but all the decoration that I’d so painstakingly put on the top was squashed flat. After we’d got over the shock, we just burst out laughing! When we came back from lunch, we stuck candles in what was left of the top and ate it anyway.
I should be out with the walking group this morning, but the weather is going to be dire so I’m going to give it a miss and do some batch cooking for the freezer instead.
Have the best day you can, folks.
