Hospital security is non existent. A porter asked a man where he was taking the ward TV set. Said to repair shop. Never saw it again 😨

Waitrose Trolley Purloined
(44 Posts)As I am housebound, at the moment, DH has been doing the shopping, and doing , not a bad job.
Yesterday he visited Waitrose and left his trolley, in a designated trolley park, inside the store, near the loo, containing one empty blue shopping bag, whilst he went to the loo.
When he came back out, his trolley, and our bag had gone!
If I had been able to be with him, I would have trawled the store looking for my bag.
I had thought Waitrose customers were better than this. Shame.
Let's hope they don't need help in the future.
How fitting that a Waitrose customer would use the term "purloined" and not stolen. The title of the thread is slightly misleading as the trolley belonged to Waitrose not DH.
Anyway I hope you get your blue bag back.
I never feel happy about leaving my shopping trolley so I hang it on the hook of the big shop trolley. It’s awkward and bangs against me but least it isn’t “pinched”. Nowadays I get most shopping delivered.
Many items can be collected, just phone the number on the item.
MedeQuip I think is one. The items such as chairs, crutches and many other aids can be re-cycled because they all come to bits. They are cleaned and have new handles or the arm rests etc replaced.
Lockers are a good idea, but left luggage was stopped in stations decades ago for security reasons. Someone could leave a bomb in one. I can’t see their coming back any time soon, sadly
Roses, you were right
Empty trolley and empty bag.
Just saved someone the inconvenience of picking up their own trolley at the door, and they don't even have to put a coin in a slot to release one., at least not here.
We used DH s golf umbrella in a wet visit at a lovely restaurant with rooms at the top of Nidderdale. The umbrella was put in the rack at the front door. I forgot to pick it up as we left. We went to stay there about a year later. The umbrella was still there. It was very distinctive. The handle had a seal with a ball on its nose.

I’m not surprised that people take equipment from hospitals.
For years the hospitals have been telling the public that they don’t want equipment back. Thereby sending out the message that they put no value on it.
From my own personal experience, a hospital bed 🤷♀️
Yes, crutches etc not needed, as they might not be ‘safe’ for the next patient.
When Covid hit and equipment was in short supply, there were shortages.
Waitrose bags are £1 if he’d gone to Customer services and explained what had happened they would have given him a bag.

The trolly didn’t have any shopping in it.
I can’t help thinking this was a genuine mistake perhaps some husband thought it was his wife’s and surely the Service Desk could have helped. As for all the kindly intentioned sympathy on the thread about the cost of shopping, I thought it was an empty trolley and an empty shopping bag?
Did I misunderstand OP ?
The supermarkets here are too stingy to be helpful, but when I lived in portugal they had an excellent scheme in the supermarkets there.
You had a locker which you put all your bags and even coats etc into and locked it with the key, which had the number and a tab on it. Then you were free to walk round the store unencombered and of course from the stores point of view , no bags to let you shoplift. You got your items and then usually as you stood in the queue to pay at the checkout, walked across and retrieved your possessions and bags so that when it was your turn, he presto bags at the ready, no embarrasing monent when you realize you had put that toothbrush or soap in your bag not the supermarket one. Easier on customer, staff , and security. cost was space for the locker rack. this lot only see it as another space to sell something else. This would help in many ways.
I did hospital car for 3 days a week for 10 years and you may be sure i saw all sorts of goings on with wheelchairs, properties etc. if you were there with someone else not so bad , but being in a waiting room alone, if y ou need the loo or are called to the desk you have to gather up everything and try to be in a hurry (which with my back, is difficult!) I think that again if there were space for a locker idea, it would be so much easier to park your outdoor coat or jumper and bits in, as inevitably the hospital is roasting hot in the waiting rooms and it is freezing cold outside. They could have them by the doors as you came into the hospital so again you walk easily round the hospital with only the things you need. Ah well common sense is always bypassed when they see a way to charge you for something.
When my DH had a broken leg, there were no available wheelchairs at the fracture clinic.
I was sent to the main reception to get one. None there either.
No one seemed bothered, I said “Well, my DH can’t walk the (considerable) distance from the car park to the clinic”.
A passing porter took pity on me and went and found one somewhere. The receptionists couldn’t give a toss.
It really is simple stuff like this that needs sorting. They just seem to accept that equipment will ‘walk’.
Where I used to live I always did my top up shop at Waitrose.. I used to love going there and the shoppers were from all walks of life . The staff always called men sir and women madam . I did ask why and they said it was company policy and they weren't called staff but partners by Waitrose management. Nothing was ever to much trouble for them . My mom used to love me taking her there . Before and after she had to go in a wheelchair. She used to sit by the customer service counter to had a chat and they always gave her a cup of tea. Mom said she always felt like the Queen. Funny enough when dementia killed my mom 4 months before her body died in her lucid moments she remembered her Waitrose trips.
At one of the big hospitals in the nearest city to where I lived they stopped having wheelchairs for people to use when going to the departments on display as they got stolen and I mean the big ones you had to pull as they where to difficult to push. They where kept locked away and could only be used by the porters.
Does anyone remember when the big train station used to have a sale every year of the things in the lost property office . Always made me laugh the amount of false limbs that where there.
We left a bag of groceries including a birthday present for my husband in a cafe. It was a couple of hours drive away and I rang them, not expecting to hear good news. They had saved it for us under the counter and kept it for a couple of days until we could get there again. Made us have faith in human nature, very happy that day.
I ll let you into a secret I ve never been in a Waitrose🤣
Many years ago I was working on a paediatric ward. We were very busy so nobody was at the nurses station, we were all running around on the ward. I went to the desk to use the phone and to my great surprise there was no phone there. This was in the days before phones were just plugged in so it was wired into the phone point on the desk. Somebody had cut the wires and stolen it.
I forgot to say sorry AuntieFlo. I would've been livid it that had been me. Shopping is expensive enough with someone pinching it.
I have to make a confession. My DH was in hospital late last year and was quite ill. He was finally discharged. He can't walk far without getting out of breath. We went out of the ward and down 2 floors in the lift. There was a walking frame outside the lift doors so he used it to get to the car park which was quite a distance away. We left it near the entrance.
We only hoped it didn't belong to someone who had nipped to the loo or something.
People will nick anything not actually nailed down.

Petra, in our hallowed Waitrose,
I've found that it's often the staff that are more judgemental & narrow -minded than the often very odd & rarefied cliental!
They seem to be very protective of the often over-priced poncey stuff that they help to flog.
"How very dare you disrespect this Mongolian yaks breast-nipple milk with your 'BLACK!!!"'Wellington boots Madam!!!"
That's the sort of vibe I get.
Maybe it's just me, my mother despaired at my unique dress-sense.
Ps, My Son has inherited my sought-after cutting a dash- style.
Lucky him. 🧐
Well, if you will go in there wearing a bikini, a top hat and black wellies what do you expect?😁

On a slightly different note, the wheelchairs at our local hospital (£1 coin in slot to use), are becoming in very short supply, there are rarely any to be had. On enquiring, my daughter was told that they are being stolen on a regular basis! How people don`t get spotted with them I don`t know, they are large and cumbersome, in bright colours.
High time the hospital did something about it, wheelchairs are extremely expensive and the NHS leaks money as it is.

I am visiting family just now. They have a local Waitrose which they avoid like the plague but I couldn't get what I needed elsewhere.
The reason why the family rarely go there is because the total rudeness of cutomers, not just in the store but particularly in the car park.
I find the people using the co-op down the road much friendlier.
On a similar note I went in a local cafe for a cuppa and an old man came in and started watching videos on his phone with the volume turned high with very loud sound effects.
Luckily I was just finishing my drink but felt like asking him not to be so inconsiderate of others. It isn't just the young' uns that can be annoying with their phones.
