Good morning from a much quieter Wiltshire.

I hope everyone who was affected by the worst of the storm further north has emerged unscathed. We managed to get out for a walk yesterday afternoon. It was sunny and breezy - the worst of the weather had been in the small hours.

Following my hip assessment I was told I was eligible for a replacement but think I will leave it for a while. It wasn’t helped by the doctor I saw who was very coldcompletely and didn’t have very good English. I was given a leaflet about all the risks which probably outweigh benefits atm. My hip is very achy after walking 2.5 miles yesterday.

Thinking of those with difficulties and ill health currently. Have a good Saturday all.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry, dark and chilly. There was an apricot swathe in the sky to the west half an hour ago behind the Pennine Ridge (the backbone of England). On sunny days I can see the green fields quite clearly from our 2nd floor verandah. There was also a beautiful finger nail moon hanging in the sky to the south.

Commuters were on both platforms. Early birds in the cold be all well wrapped up. The 7:20am train to Manchester Oxford Road pulled into Platform 1, lights ablaze, as I waited for the kettle to boil.

We are driving over to the roller rink party at the Trafford Centre late morning. Himself suggested last night we too don skates, ask them to play ‘Bolero’ and we could pretend to be Torvill and Dean. 😂

After a coffee there and watching the children shuffle around with their ‘elf and safety elbow and knee Velcro pads we will drive and fetch my stepfather as he would like an M&S stock up shop. It will be a very late lunch for us once home and I intend to continue racing through my novel. 😁

Good morning from a dry and chilly spot in south Glos, no rain forecast for today. Yesterday was a bit windy but largely dry, I didn’t get too blown around dog walking.
Nothing planned for today beyond the usual things so I’m going to do some reading about goldwork embroidery; I have some supplies and fabric .
Probably jacket potatoes for dinner, I honestly get very tired of cooking- I would be perfectly happy just taking a pill as a food substitute instead of cooking!

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s cold, bright and dry. We escaped the worst of the storm yesterday, some heavy rain in the morning which soon cleared to leave a bright and windy day. The wind played havoc with all our wheelie bins and other boxes and sacks, but the rubbish was soon cleared up.
I went to a friend’s house in the evening, for an informal quiz evening with other friends. Good fun and a later than usual night for me!
I need to change the bed linen today, nothing much else planned! The family are always busy on Saturdays so I doubt I will see anyone.

Good morning from a cold but clear skied Oxfordshire, the winds dropped yesterday around 10 am and we had a clear sunny day, unlike some poor people who suffered all day.

As I appear to be ok health wise 🤞we are going out for coffee and cake later this morning, it’s good to be getting back to normal again.

I’m in a rush as I’ve to go over to watch the boys while DD3 and her DH go to the very sad funeral of their young friend. It will be harrowing as she leaves a little boy aged 5.😞

Morning all from a cool West Oxfordshire.

I will be sorting out my old car today. I’ve had it for over nine years and will be trading it in for a new one next week. It needs to be handed over in a reasonable state. I’ll be doing some cooking too. I’ve found a recipe for a marmalade cake and will make a chicken pie for dinner. I haven’t made one of those for a long time.

It was nerve-wracking paying the balance on line for the new car yesterday. We have to keep alert for fraud and there are constant warning pop ups! One warning asks whether you can afford to lose the amount of money you’re transferring. Well, no. Probably not!

We will travel home today after visiting DH’s sister who lives about 20 miles away from where we are staying.

Good morning everyone on a still , very dark morning in North Yorkshire.

Well at least it is quiet after the noise and banging in yesterdays storm. I had no tv, wifi, , the landline telephone was playing up, working one minute and down the next. A very frustrating start to the day, and things did not improve for quite a while. I looked out of my window and saw a man going round at the back garden area tying yellow and black tape right round. Opened the window to ask what was happening and he said you rang us. I replied no not me, and it then turned out that my upstairs neighbour had rung them as there are tiles off the roof and they have taped all this part of the garden off because of flying tiles . I had struggled out early to get a few things before the wind got too bad, so didnt need to go out for anything else. Eventually got the wifi and laptop and phone working but tv still no good , so suspect that the aerial has been damaged or lost on the roof. Have to do without, no great problem, as need to find out what is happening on the roof before I organise anything.

The man had come and taken my mobility scooter and later rang to tell me the cringing cost of getting it set up with new batteries and new charger. He said he hoped to return it to me yesterday, but no joy and when I rang at various times no reply so perhaps he didnt get into work at all. Hopefully he will ring me today to say it is all mended so that at least I can go and get shopping on the market and feel free to get out a bit. Still waking at stupid times, but at least feel a little better today and a bit less pain , for which i am grateful, but hardly dare whisper it in case it gets worse!

So if the yellow peril (mobiility scooter) comes back today I may venture down the town if it stays calm. If not still wearisome amount of stuff to sort out here and if I can find a good programme on the radio, must make a determined effort to attack the ironing. What an exciting life I lead!!

Hope everyone has stayed safe from the storm and not had a lot of damage to their things, but things can be replaced unlike us! Wishing you all a safe and calm day today and we can reflect how lucky we are to be ok after yesterday. Thinking of all the poor people who have been badly affected and hope they have some help from friends and neighbours.

Good morning from Glasgow. 3deg, heavy rain, sun, snow later this evening but thankfully winds speeds have dropped to gusts of 35mph.

Another at home day. Yesterday’s storm was horrendous with unsettling extreme gusts of which was heard whistling and creaking and sounds whenever the house was quiet. I ventured out to the garden late evening when the rain had stopped with a sigh of relief that no damage had been done , that was until I spotted half of the fencing at the side of the house was tilted at an odd angle. Nothing I can do about it at the moment but hoping it is repairable v new fencing. Hey, ho. I’m sure I got off lightly compared to many others who suffered worse.

There is always one isn’t there GM. I often don’t get the humour of others if I’m not in the right mood. You possibly feel unsettled if there is tension in your DDs family presently.
It does affect us.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Much quieter today, thankfully.

Yesterday's red alert was accurate so the storm roar through most of the day. I was lucky not to lose any trees.

DD is still without power. She's in the Highlands.

DS3 arrives tonight for a couple of nights.

The painter turned up at 7.30am yesterday and finished the recently replastered ceiling by 3pm. He shouldn't have been travelling but did anyway.

Good morning from Cornwall where it's calm and quiet with wall-to-wall sun promised today. I'll pack some food and head for the Lizard where there's a brilliant beach for washed-up plastic bits I can make something out of. The recent weather should have washed up quite a store of junk.

Here's a parent gull steadfastly trying to ignore the pleadings of its somewhat large youngster, which I spotted yesterday while I was shopping.

Good morning from s somerset, dry, sunny and cold today

All change to my slothing plans, bed is now stripped and washing will be a priority, it will be a good drying day so my rotary line will be filled at dawn. Bedroom bottoming after this post, there is always fluff after bed-changing, my helpful vacuum searchlight sees fluff before I do

Outside work too and I will be taking ground grids to the plot I can potter up there for a couple of hours.

Good morning from Lancashire. The damage here wasn't as bad as in previous storms and no lives lost.
The days are starting to lengthen now, which makes life easier.

Morning Mick, morning all from a cold corner of Somerset. Overnight rain has left large puddles, it seems dry at the moment

GP was able to explain blood test outcomes and clarify a muddle over surgery tests. A letter from rheumatology hadn’t arrived here, she kindly printed a copy and talked me through the to me very technical content. It seems their blood results are inconclusive. I’ve parked it all now until my next hospital appointment late February.

Forecast is decent today, we hope to get out for a walk, I’ve a real need to re-build some stamina, I flag far to quickly.

We were fortunate in that the wind wasn’t too bad here yesterday and we escaped heavy day time rain. The images from elsewhere were frightening, I worried for everyone impacted and will pop back later to learn how you all fared.

Hope Saturday is kind to us all.

Good morning from Bristol. Getting colder again.
My sympathies to all those affected by the storm, I hope you have kept safe.
Yesterday was SiL’s last day at UWE. He was dreadfully unhappy due to bad management. After a little time to recover, he will try to get charity work.
My half hour walk to my Spanish class was very windy, but mercifully dry. Ok class, though there is one lady why is always very critical - of the class content, of the teacher’s accent, of the speed of speech in videos, of…. I find it very tiresome, the others including the teacher find her hilarious.
Did very little in the afternoon, after starting to cut out fabric and plan my quilt.
Other than coffee and chat this morning, the day is empty.
