I'm meeting friends 'for coffee' this morning. But I hate coffee and have boring tea.

What do you drink when you go out for coffee?

shock
I'm impressed!

We start with coffee and cake then after a lot of chatting tea. Luckily the coffee shop lets us stay as long as we like. The record so far is 5 hours.

I like my instant coffee best

The novelty has worn off with all the fancy ones that cost a packet.
They all seem to end up as a bucket of tepid, bitter liquid, once you've swallowed down the foam.

PS I hope you didn't buy a jar of instant for your friends. That's not what inviting someone "for coffee" means. But if you don't like it, do you have the wherewithal to make the real thing?

I adore coffee, especially at 11am. I have to have decaf now but grind it from beans and don't adulterate it with milk or sugar.

I like coffee more than tea. At home I always add hot milk to my coffee ( made in a cafetière). When out, it’s either an Americano with a little hot milk, or a flat white. I can drink tea - black, but it tends to give me heartburn. I’m not fond of herbal teas. When in a cafe in Rome, I asked for a latte, and received a cup of hot milk! I should have known!

I like cappuccino but hardly ever buy drinks when out and about. I have a pro Gaggia machine at home and make my own. I recently bought a French press and bought coffee from Monmouth by Borough Market when last up in London. When drinking tea, I prefer a good Yorkshire brew.

meeting for coffee is just an expression, you can drink what you like of course.
I have a strong coffee when I wake as I read that it's good for your bowels then it's tea.

I don't like ordinarybtea and prefer not to drink instant coffee. I have a filter at home and most places where I drink coffee out do reasonable coffee. I just have an americano with cold milk. If I have coffee at a friend's house I struggle to drink instant and as I generally only drink one cup a day, if I'm offered instant I may politely decline and have one at home later. I do enjoy some fruit teas and sometimes have a sachet of one I like in my pocket just in case.

Usually a fancy coffee or chai tea. But I mostly drink pepsi or Dr. Pepper after having a cappuccino in the morning.

I never drank coffee till I was 22 but now I love it as long as it is black
. I don't like tea unless it is very weak with a slice of lemon
I like the instant teas in different flavours which you can buy from Polish shops
otherwise herbal teas
but nothing quenches the thirst unless it is a cordial or fizzy drink

Love coffee, new favourite is flat white with oat milk. Only have it when I'm out

Mojack26 Wed 29-Jan-25 19:22:20

Whatever I want....but not so keen on tea. Drink whatever you like...it's only an expression

arum Wed 29-Jan-25 18:37:17

I always drink herbal teas at home, usually make a 1 litre flask of rooibos and other herbs, like ginger, sage, green tea and mint, or other bags of mixed tea herbs. At work (3 times a week) and when I go out, then I drink coffee with a little milk added.

I like both , I start the day with tea , then have a coffee or two mid morning and another tea in the afternoon. I don’t drink tea or coffee after 4 .
I’m not a tea or coffee snob and am happy with supermarket brands and instant coffee . If I’m in a cafe I’ll have a latte ir flat white and if I have friends over for a cuppa I’ll offer black tea , coffee or other teas , whatever I’ve got . If it’s coffee I’ll use my coffee machine which has reusable pods and my milk frother .

I love tea and dislike coffee. I always thought that I wouldn’t be truly grown up until I could drink coffee, but now I’m happy to be a tea drinker.

I love coffee. But limit myself to 2 a day because I like strong coffee made in either a cafetiere or stove top percolator. And if I drink too much it keeps me awake. And my idea of a treat if I've been busy or stressed is to take my book to a lovely cafe and treat myself to coffee and a nice slice of cake.I also like tea but again just a couple a day .There's nothing better than a mug of tea after some serious gardening.

Visgir1 Wed 29-Jan-25 16:08:27

Recently read Coffee now more popular than tea.
I would rather have coffee but I do drink both.
Always felt it was not right being offered Tea in the mornings.

Joolz62 Wed 29-Jan-25 15:56:43

No coffee for me although if it came in cake form I'd happily eat it. I went off it 36 years ago while pregnant. Never had it since. I drink decaf tea, no milk, quite strong.

Nansypansy Wed 29-Jan-25 15:50:17

I much prefer tea but if I have a coffee it’s always at home made how I like it … reasonably strong coffee with coffee mate and half a tspn of sugar and maybe a splash of milk … don’t think I’d get that combination in a cafe!

AuntieE Wed 29-Jan-25 15:41:39

I am a coffee drinker. I would never dream of ordering tea in a cafë or restaurant. When I go out, I order cappucino. At home I make coffee in a filter pot, and only very rarely drink tea.

HiMay Wed 29-Jan-25 15:11:42

Steamed coconut milk

Helenlouise3 Wed 29-Jan-25 15:03:28

De caff cappuccino for me. I'm a strange one though. I love coffee but dislike any sweets/cakes that have coffee in them

crazygranmda Wed 29-Jan-25 14:59:12

I can be even more boring smile. I'd request tap water!

Frenchgalinspain Wed 29-Jan-25 14:50:31

Depending on the hour ..

We have coffee breaks at 11am ..

Normally an Espresso or a Cappucchino.

Sometimes decaf on both ..

Then in Spain there is a "merienda" which begins approx 17.00 - 19.30 and I normally have an Earl Grey .. It is a pastry or light sandwich and tea or coffee hour.
