At what age do you actually Call old !

I remember my mother turning 40 and I thought wow that’s old I’m now 54 and think to myself that she realy was a spring chicken .

Well, I was a baby when my Mum was 40!

I'm 75. I can't believe it. Never in a million years did I think I'd live to this age. It's been tough at times, lovely at others. I don't feel old or young. I still feel exactly as I've always felt. Just me.

I was fine with 60 but 70 did throw me a bit but getting old is a privilege denied to many, my own brother died at 49 21 years ago…😥

I’m beginning to feel old at nearly 70 even though I swim four or five times a week for around 45 minutes a session. My skin is lined on my tummy since weight loss and I am awaiting shoulder replacement. The constant pain of OA really makes me feel infirm at the moment. Also the sleepless nights brought on by pain. I am told this will get better after the op. Fingers crossed!

70, which is what I am. I don't have any objection to being classified as "old" - it's a word we need to reclaim, IMHO. And I don't buy this "60 is the new 40" twaddle. No it isn't........it's 60, first, second and last!

I agree with Kate49, although I am several years older than she is. I'm just me.
I don't go along with what Mae13 says. We live in a time where many illnesses are curable and if not curable, treatable. We are fortunate to be able to hear, using hearing aids. Cataract surgery is common place.
Our generation are not sitting in the corner, blind and deaf at 65/70. Or worse still, dead by 63/64 of illnesses such as diabetes, which caused my maternal grandparents deaths at that age.
We have much to be thankful for.

Since I still have several years to go, I’d say about 83.

Mind you just lately my knees have been feeling as if they need oiling. I know I’m very lucky that they’re no worse, but at a couple of underground stations lately I’ve seen people running down the long flights of steps and realised that I can’t do it any more.
Plus, increasingly, people have been offering me seats on the bus! Very kind and all that, but I usually say, ‘Thank you anyway, but I’m fine.’
I suppose the true test of Really Old will be when I accept very gratefully.

I'm with you, Aldom - happy to be old, in my seventies, with all of the benefits of advances in healthcare.
If a younger, fitter person offers me a seat, or helps me with a heavy bag on the train, I accept with " Thank you very much: how kind of you ".
I am enjoying my old age.

I rather prefer the term 'mature' I accosiate with a great many people around my age, some look much older than their years whilst others look far younger.

I’m 66 and my DH is 69, we still don’t consider ourselves “old” though our dear children do!

My idea of “old” is 80 and anyone over 95 is very old!

Btw, I don’t think of ANY of you lovely GNs as old, you all seem as sharp as a needle and many of you live interesting and active lives.

I am 77 and DH 81, we are feeling our age a bit now but still do lots of things, particularly attending funerals, make the most of it is our philosophy. We noticed after DH turned 80 the attitude of our children changed a lot and any phone call is answered with are you alright?

My hair is white I think that makes me look older. I’m not so fast or agile as I was because of arthritis. My mind is still young and alert I’m 68 I don’t consider it’s old it is after all just a number.

Although as I said above that I am 87 my family do not treat me as if I am.
My D who I only see a couple of times a year, never asks how I am and her phone call are mainly about herself , she will be 60 this year.
My GD and my S who both live with me just treat me as they always have.
To them I must just seem as if I am immortal.
To be fair I am very seldom ill, but I believe they have all forgotten my BC which is now 25 years ago and just seem like a blip in a very long life.

Yep, my children would be astonished to hear me described as old. My Christmas gift was gym membership ( a not too subtle nudge) .

I'm 63. 'old' is at least 10 years older than me🙂. I'm a great believer in the phrase ' as young as you feel!'

I remember when I was about 12 I thought anyone over the age of 30 was old !

Good heavens! I was 79 two days ago and I still think of myself as young! However, if I am still alive next year I really will think of myself as old.

I have been 45 for years and years which is strange as my eldest daughter is 47.

When I got to 39 the numbers just seemed to get stuck right there.

So I’m 39. And my daughter is 40 in a couple of months time

Never think of old as an age. The people I think of as old are those who live in the past, refuse to embrace new ideas or fashions and are set in their ways, the kind of person who always grumbles and has a negative attitude to most things.
Could be me on a bad day!

Old is always ten years older than you are!

Until about two years ago when arthritis started playing me up, I did indeed feel like a 'spring 🐔' ( I am 63) Had a knee replacement 3 weeks ago and I now feel ancient! Hopefully once recovered I'll feel young once more!

I agree with the late, gorgeous Roger Moore who said he always thought of 'old' as being 15 years older than whatever age he was at the time!
