I always have to laugh as my friend and I are exactly the same age. And she’s always going on about how she’s an old codger
We are both 67! She not joking! I’m always saying speak for yourself at 67 in my mind I’m still a spring chicken. We might be pensioners but in my mind far from old ( blooming cheek)

My GP has just told me that I need to stay on Ramipril in spite of not having high BP because I have heart disease and my heart will be stronger in 20 years for taking it - I laughed at him! I am 76 now.

Well... my Dad had a heart attack and bypass at 64, gradually returned to work, retired at 65, had a pacemaker fitted at 86, is still living the good life and will be 94 next month.

He's still taking the Ramipril! 😉

Well this is quite encouraging!!

One of my minded boys, who's 8, was telling me about his teenage sister's part-time job in a café.
I told him when I was her age I worked in our local Wimpy Bar, and used to get told off by the manager for being too generous when I made the knickerbocker glories.
I told him I used to flip the burgers and cook the bender sausages, and he asked me if we'd had chicken nuggets as well?

I said I couldn't remember if there were nuggets back then, but it was 50 years ago.
"50 years?" he said.
"Yes, half a century!" I replied.
Silence for a while...

"Exactly how old are you?" 😳

I am always puzzled by this 'looking your age' stuff.

The older we get the more diverse our looks and by the time you reach 70, one person will be frail, disabled, shrunken and wrinkled, another will be grossly overweight and pastey faced. and another person the same age will be running marathons, smooth faced (naturally) and as fit as a fiddle. Each 'looks their age'.

I often envisage an advertising competiton where photos are taken of may be 20 people, all aged 75. The photos would include healthy fresh faced people, grey or white haired people, ill and well people. People would be asked whaat specific thing do all these people have in common, and see how many would say that they were alldespite all their differnces, exactly the same age.

I think 60 is the start of old age, and it’s all downhill from there😁

Babs03 Tue 28-Jan-25 22:06:56

I really don’t mind being 67, I feel happy in my own skin even if it is more wrinkly now, and I certainly don’t stand for the kind of nonsense I put up with when younger.
I probs look my age, but who cares, many people are not lucky enough to reach 67.

Thank you kitty
I do try to stay positive and up to date but must admit it does get harder.

It’s not the years, it’s the miles on the clock……

Old is about 15 years older than me, and it moves up one every year smile

NanKate Tue 28-Jan-25 21:20:04

I’m 78 and now I think how young I was at 70. I’d like to start my life all over again.

Whiff Tue 28-Jan-25 21:19:52

My mom always said older never old. She did describe someone as elderly they where 71 she was 86 . I am 66 I will be older when I am 80+.

Grannybags Tue 28-Jan-25 21:16:14

To the poster above who said 85 is the cut off point, I agree.
I am 87 and until recently people would say I didn’t look it.
Now they say , you are doing well for your age!!
I am constantly tired, some days no appetite and many times no enthusiasm.
However I know people younger than me who are far less able and people of my age and older who are full of life.
It’s the luck of the draw and one’s genes.

But, you seem very young mentally Utbb and not a day older than when I first encountered you approx 12 years ago.

Let us know if it works, Luckygirl 😁
I'm a bit older than you, Rampiril didn't suit me but I'm willing to give it another try if I'm here in 20 years' time.

I am 77 and I suppose that is quite old but I try to stave off some of the effects of old age by walking and doing strength and flexibility exercises.
A read a book be a geriatric doctor titled "Sod 70!" He believes in maybe not a very long life but a life where you are able to look after yourself well for many years.

Delila Tue 28-Jan-25 19:24:20

Fartooold, I sometimes think having things to “conquer” keeps you young. flowers

foxie48 Tue 28-Jan-25 19:11:53

I'm 76, do I feel old? I don't know, I feel like me at 76. Do I feel the same as I did when I was 65? No, I felt like me at 65 then. I really don't get this obsession with feeling old or not feeling old. No one asked me if I felt "young" at 18, middle aged at 50. If they had I don't know what I'd had said because I just felt like "me" at that age.

Fartooold Tue 28-Jan-25 19:10:59

I am 81 🫣 I certainly do not feel that old! I still run round like a lunatic caring for my 3 who all have Down Syndrome. I am sometimes knackered but that’s life. Love to all you “oldies” we will conquer!

Marg75 Tue 28-Jan-25 18:56:36

I'm eighty soon and must admit I do feel old now, and my face and body prove it!

When I was 18 I was asked on a date by an attractive man, fine until I found out he was 30 shock
30 was old!

At 18 I was asked out by a 30 year old. The romance lasted 4 years. I fancied him like mad before he asked 🥰

Harris27 Tue 28-Jan-25 18:39:01

Well I turned 65 yesterday felt old. Back to work today and a young girl said ‘ I didn’t believe you were that age till someone said’ she didn’t think I look that old that’ll do for me!,

whywhywhy Tue 28-Jan-25 18:37:50

100!

Franski Tue 28-Jan-25 18:36:51

85 is the cut off IMO. After that everyone tends to feel the effects.

Nightsky2 Tue 28-Jan-25 18:31:04

I was 67 twelve years ago so I am old 😃
