Very disappointed that some posters want to turn Gransnet into Twitter and facebook, not to mention Reddit.

Maybe some of the mature posters should get the Disney film out called Bambi.

"If you can't say anything good don't say it"

Oo-er missis!

Who I wonder are the “more mature” posters? Possibly those of an age with Marianne Faithfull.
I don’t understand the references to Twitter, Reddit et al but reading the obituaries this morning, MF’s life seems to have been fully documented and the obits say a lot more about her than her relationship with Mick Jagger.
However, a life which seems to have been largely fuelled by sex, drugs and rock n’ roll is bound to attract comments.
In 1964 she became a star with the release of As Tears Go By, a ballad written for her by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. She subsequently had some success as an actress, appearing at the Royal Court, and made a handful of films, including Hamlet, in which she was a diaphanous Ophelia, and Girl on a Motorcycle, a fetishistic slice of soft porn in which she donned leather and simulated a high-speed orgasm before catapulting to her death
She had great natural talent. But Marianne Faithfull seemed as much preoccupied with a personal quest for self-obliteration as professional success. “Death is the next great adventure,” she announced blithely. Using a series of destructive relationships as greasy poles, she slid down to explore the underbelly of life. There were drugs galore and plenty of sex – straight, lesbian, troilism – but little affection
A sad life really and considering her suicide attempts and drug addiction, surprising to have made 78. She may have been our idol in the Sixties but who would have envied her the price of celebrity?

I think the OP is getting at a couple of posters who in my opinion were quite rude because another poster also started a thread. If they had bothered to look at the time of the postings, two minutes apart they would have seen it was a cross post.

Maybe I should go to Specsavers but I can’t see anything bad about Marianne on this thread.

RIP Marianne- the essence of the sixties. She was so beautiful.

Sorry to sound clinical, but what did she die of?

Romola Thu 30-Jan-25 22:59:13

She sang at our college ball in 1965. I danced in my lovely boyfriend's arms, one of the happiest moments of our long life together.
Thank you, Marianne RIP

So many on social media happily remembering Lucy Jordan. Loved her unique voice. RIP Marianne

Sorry Ilovedogs

It’s simply to draw attention - so many posters don’t read threads or previous posts, which is why several old threads (5 years +) have been resurrected by spammers, then added to by genuine posters. On a separate note - often the thread isn’t read through, leading to inappropriate comments.

Not meant to be shouty at all.

Rainbow1235 Thu 30-Jan-25 21:05:45

Very sad 😢

My DH fancied her. I thought her pretty but a mediocre singer.
I think she was badly treated by the menfolk around her and the media.
I hope she had a happy life.

Love her songs. As tears go by. All I hear is the sound of rain falling on the ground

Cossy Thu 30-Jan-25 18:45:10

Oh how sad!

Barleyfields Thu 30-Jan-25 18:43:33

I remember her well. She was beautiful when young.

Babs03 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:41:28

Don’t remember much about her, except that she was Jagger’s girlfriend and extremely pretty.
78 is no age to die these days though, even if she lived in the fast lane.

infoman Thu 30-Jan-25 18:28:01

at the age of 78.
