A bar in a supermarket in Northern Ireland?

Blimey!Things have changed since my first visit to Co. Down about 25 years ago when I went to Tesco to buy some wine to take to a party. I was almost spat at by the woman at the checkout who told me to take my alcohol to the end aisle which was segregated by being taped off!

I was glared ant and practically shoved through as though I was the anti-Christ.

Later on I was advised to avoid the supermarkets and only buy alcohol in an independent off licence where they’d be happy to serve me!

🍷🥳🍾

If you buy your groceries in Fortnum's or Harrods, there's a smart bar for a few cocktails!

So why not Lidls?!

Imagine being half cut in the "Middle Of Lidl" searching for courgettes and coming out with a kayak and a fishing rod instead.

Freya5 Morrisons is still there in Gib but I don’t remember seeing a bar just a nice cafe.

Lots of supermarkets have cafes- so why not serve wine too? I rarely shop at Lidl or Aldi but know their wines can be very good.

I remember Morrisons in Gibralter had a bar, a novelty for me to have a glass of fizz post shopping, before being driven back to Spain. Wonder if it's still there ?

Jaxjacky

I recall there was one in St Malo around the periphery of the hyper market with other small shops, plenty of space for trollies too.

Pretty much standard in Spain & Portugal to have a bar in/by supermarkets.

M & S cafes were all licensed for beer and wine, haven’t looked lately as I always drive.

Drink driving comes to mind 😱. Bonkers idea.

My thoughts exactly BlueBelle

I wouldn’t be adverse to a chilled white wine whilst DH was shopping 🛒

Might be a good place to park sone husbands while you can get on but still have a ‘carrier’ on the way home

Apparently a branch of Lidl in Northern Ireland is going to open a bar.

I remember a branch of M&S had a snack bar where alcohol was served, sadly closed down now. Quite enjoyed a glass of prosecco with a lunch as an occasional treat. Obviously husband was driving

Not sure experience in Lidl would be the same. Grocery shopping is something I like to do as quickly as possible

Wondering what others think of idea
Would anyone stop for a wee drink while doing weekly shop?
