Colour blind

I found out when he was at secondary school. They picked it up.

My two sons are colour blind, found out when they were in early secondary school. Not really impeded them much, but they were told they couldn't go in the military, or be electricians, for obvious reasons!!

My maternal grandad was colour blind as was my brother. The story goes that my grandad asked my grandma out on a date. She refused telling her sister “I couldn’t be seen with a boy who wears purple socks!”. Eventually they did get together and it transpired that he thought his socks were brown!!

My son is colour blind. Told at senior school, that he couldn’t be an electrician. Not that he wanted to be. He is a designer and illustrator. Never had the slightest problem with his colour blindness.

My uncle was colour blind. He coloured a picture in infant school, green plant pit and red plant. He was a fireman all his working life and learnt the colour sequence of the traffic lights so he could drive the engine.
My cousin has two boys who are colour blind. When they were little their dad had a green van. They had an argument about it, one claiming it was purple, the other that it was blue.
They have had no problems at all.

My dad was terribly colour blind assuming it's a kind of scale, that is.

He'd often appear dressed in pink trousers and a yellow shirt (it was the 60s, to explain those colours even bring in his wardrobe.

My nephew was quite little when he was diagnosed and told he couldn’t be a pilot or a pirate.

All the males in my family are colour blind. We knew this so knew to test the DGSs when they were young enough to do the Issihara test.

My husband and one grandson are colourblind.

My husband was ridiculed for it. He was in junior school. My grandson sees things the same as my husband it seems. He has found geography very tough but has got through GCSE in spite of the fact that no allowance is made with maps /pie charts and graphs being printed in colour. He was allowed to keep his mock GCSE paper and my husband couldn't do it.
Our old papers were black and white with cross hatching or dots or lines etc.

He was told he could have someone "tell him the names of the colours he couldn't see" 🙄 but that really wasn't good enough as you keep having to cross reference and don't know what you don't know!

I'd make sure that the school knows right away and ask what's happening to support him.

My dad, husband and one son are colourblind. I seem to remember a routine eye test at 4 brought it to light for my son, 23 years ago.

Shown the ishihara test and said I cant see any number. Hazel eyes like my dad. Knew he would be colour blind

That's interesting, there were colourblind students on our veterinary course (nearly all vets do some surgery). I hope they didn't have that problem when they got into practice

Aahhh, he must have been shocked when he was told.
I'd have loved a green Guinea pig.
