Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather cloudy but dry Carlisle.
I was out early yesterday for a walk through the park to collect my paper....you need to be early as they only get 2 or 3 of my chosen one, I don't want the others. The rest of the day was spent talking to my sister by phone, pottering and reading. I am only a quarter way through my book, it's very long with lots of info interspersed through the action. Gripping though, I had to force myself to put it down and go to bed at my usual time.

I was awake annoyingly early as I often am but managed to doze through items on BBC World Service and Sounds for a couple of hours. The more interesting the item, the more it is likely to send me to sleep!

I think I'm off for a walk shortly, my get fit New Year resolution. I've already managed to improve my walking pace. The rest of the day will be spent reading the paper and my book although I might do a spot of baking, I'm out of afternoon cake though my conscience tells me it ought to be fruit. However, regular cake is not preventing me from losing my Christmas weight gain so I may continue indulging.

Wishing you all a pleasant Sunday.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's getting light that bit earlier.
Quaker meeting here this morning. Yesterday 3 friends came to get the room ready after the disruption of plasterers and painters. There seemed to be more furniture afterwards than before.

All I need to do is make soup for
lunch and light the fire.

I may go to Taizé singing this afternoon if I feel up for it and this evening a beautiful film is being shown at our community cinema.
I suggested it so had better go!

I adore membrillo and I'm neither Spanish nor Argentinian. 😂🤣😅
I grow quinces.

Happy birthday to your DD Kitty enjoy your celebrations.

I'm glad you enjoyed celtic connections Baubles despite your sore arms. I love Karine Polwart too.

I hope everyone finds something to celebrate today.

Morning Mick, morning All from a dry, cloudy and chilly corner of Somerset.

As we are no longer bread-less there will soon be a bacon sandwich for Mr C and toast with marmalade for me. Our Sunday breakfasts rarely vary. While I’m thinking food. a chicken roast to come later, my favourite. A pottering day ahead, other than a short walk along the river if it stays dry and energy allows.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Morning all from Kew.

Granddaughter has a birthday party today. While she’s there I’ll pop down to Kew Gardens and maybe pop in the shop!

Elder son and his partner are back later this evening so I’ll stay for one more night.

Have a peaceful Sunday.

Good morning everyone, from a frosty and sunny mid Essex. I had a good nights sleep last night, with a rude awakening as one of the smoke detectors went off at 6.45! No apparent reason, but not long after the boiler started up, so it could have been dust being disturbed. A few days of serious housework are called for I think.
I went for a walk yesterday to post a letter, but found the nearest post box shrink wrapped in black plastic and unusable. I may go for a walk again today, once the frost has cleared and the temperature has warmed up, it’s -1 at the moment.
DD2 may call in, DD1 has friends staying for the weekend, so will be busy. Otherwise, the duster will be given an outing!
Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all from a chilly North Leicestershire.

DD1 is 50 today. Having only just, more or less, finished he cancer treatment, there are no big celebrations planned but a huge sigh of relief is in order.

We are taking Bertie birthday shopping and for lunch - he is 13 now. Doesn't time fly?

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all and it feels very chilly here in Essex.

We’re heading up to our seaside cottage this morning, hopefully leaving early to miss some traffic. Our lovely neighbour has put the heating on for us.

It’s horrible trying to sleep in a hot bedroom isn’t it Ash.
Enjoy the rest of your creative weekend RosesandLilac.

Take care 🌱 and enjoy the day.

Good morning everyone from Spain, another sunny day ahead
We’ve a few more days to enjoy on holiday, travelling to Malaga today and staying there until we fly home on Thursday. We had a bit of a blip with our Airbnb booking for Malaga as there was no response from the host with access details on how to get in. We contacted the support team who were very helpful and an alternative is now sorted. We’ll be sorry to leave Estepona, we both thought its a lovely place with a really pretty old town with lots of flowers even in winter, miles and miles of flat easy walking along the coast. There’s lots and lots of cafés and restaurants which were very friendly and quite Spanish in their feel.
Ouch baubles a double dose to contend with!
Safe travels home Roses and everyone else on the move today
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

RosesandLilac Sun 02-Feb-25 07:21:24

Good morning from Gloucestershire where it’s dry and the day is dawning.
It’s Imbolc, the ancient celebration of the beginning of spring, a traditional Gaelic festival and also known as St. Brigid’s Day. I understand that there’s going to be a celebration of it in the beautiful woods here.
I had a lovely creative day yesterday, more to come this morning before I set off for home mid-afternoon - an hour’s drive south, easy drive. Several of the others are have much longer journeys, London, Devon and Essex!
I hope you all have a lovely day 🌹

Susan56 Sun 02-Feb-25 07:04:36

Good morning from Acton Trussell.Still dark and haven’t looked out as I don’t want to wake the children!

We had a lovely day yesterday. The children played crazy golf and then we had a relaxing afternoon at DD2’s.I think a walk is planned this morning then after lunch we will make our way home.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩

Good morning from a dark but cold day here on the east coast of Fife. I felt a little cold through the night. I think Jack Frost might be lurking about, I’m unable to go to church this morning I’ve no one to take me p, perhaps I’ll get next week.

Have a good day my friends smile smile and smile 💕💕

grandMattie Sun 02-Feb-25 06:38:51

kalu, I have tried making that but the volcanic “blop blops” while stirring burnt me all over my arms so much that I never do it now. It is delicious though.
The Argentinians love their “membrillo” and eat almost as much of it as dulce de leche!

baubles Sun 02-Feb-25 06:38:13

Good morning from dark and still South Lanarkshire.

My arms are aching from having had two vaccinations yesterday morning. I had been invited for the shingles one but when the nurse checked my records and realised that I hadn’t had the
Pneumococcal vaccine she offered that too. A double dunt.

My friend who moved south a couple of years ago was back for a couple of days so she came to me for lunch and an enjoyable catch up.

Last night we went to see Karine Polwart perform as part of the Celtic Connections festival. I think we first saw her twenty years ago.

All in all it was a very good day.

Not much happening today though so I’ll potter, crochet, and dog walk this afternoon after Mass.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Greyduster Sun 02-Feb-25 06:30:48

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a still dark South Yorkshire where it will be another dull day. I slept pretty well last night. DS came down and we had a lovely lunch at a very busy local pub. The staff were run off their feet but cheerful and the poor man behind the bar didn’t know which end was up! I had then stored up a few niggling little jobs for him that I couldn’t manage and we spent the rest of the afternoon putting the world to rights.
Today will be a quiet day for me. I’ll do a small shop at Aldi and then shut myself away with a book.
Have the best day you can folks.

Kalu Sun 02-Feb-25 06:28:06

Good morning all. Slightly milder at 5deg. heavy rain for the next hour in Glasgow.

I had a lovely visit from DD1 and GD2 yesterday. As much as I love the girls, I was delighted that Magnus, their younger black lab who will be 1yr old next month was with them. It was so nice to have a dog following me around the house again and watch him bounding around in the garden full of puppy energy.

A lazy Sunday ahead with my latest book or a film. If it is dry enough I will have a short walk to get some fresh air and exercise at some point.

GM when we lived in France, my elderly neighbour Josette always made a delicious pate de coing at Christmas, a tradition in our region. I occasionally buy it here but it never tastes quite as good as hers.

Have a pleasant Sunday all, especially those with worrying times and struggles.

Ashcombe Sun 02-Feb-25 06:03:42

Good morning from a dry Torbay with a fine but cold day forecast.

It is good to be back in my own bed! Although we enjoyed our Toads social might and the hotel was fine, the bedroom was very hot with no means of controlling the radiator. We opened windows but they wouldn’t open more than an inch and tgere was no breeze.

Following a post about the heat from a Gransnetter in Australia who lives in the same state as my DD1, I checked the temperatures and see they’re reaching the high 30’s currently! She will struggle with that, as will many, plus there’s the fire risk.

Church this morning for the first time this year then maybe a walk if my joints will cooperate!

A blessed Sunday to you all! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

karmalady Sun 02-Feb-25 05:56:31

Good morning from s somerset, dry and cloudy today

It won`t be warm but I will dress for the weather and spend the morning at my plot today. Being a lark, I am raring to go

I am doing minimum in the house at the moment, there is nothing that needs urgent attention.

Have a good day

grandMattie Sun 02-Feb-25 05:43:39

Good morning from Bristol. Not too cold atm, and dry!
The coffee and chat in church was very busy yesterday, several new attendees. Another neighbour who has started to attend, turned up on the dot of 1030, coffee had been made but not much else…. He stayed on for quite a time. He’s a lovey man.
The afternoon was quiet, I did some sewing, watched some tv. Oh, and I finally cooked the quinces I bought in the autumn and are now properly ripe. I have strained them, ready to make a beautiful blush-pink jelly scented like honey, but fairly sour. It’s delicious.
Apart from church this morning, another similar day.
Have a blessed Sunday. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
